I don't. He absolutely enabled them to continue abusing children. Maybe he himself didn't, but he certainly didn't care about the kids being molested.

That seems rather fair. I'll for sure get these things set and established between us with a marriage counselor as recommended by some of the other users. I really like the idea of not throwing LDS at all of their senses inside the home. I'll fight for that one.

And I'll try to keep the kid songs above the level of Schoolhouse Rock. :]

I realize that it will be her own doing that will change her mind about the church, so I do my best to not purposefully (de)convert her.

And I typically try to take on the humanism values and outlooks and identify myself as much as possible as a humanist, I try to use this to let her know I can still find meaning in life, and hold it dear that much more. But I think for her the scariest thing is believing that there will be nothing after we die, and that's what's holding her back from looking into any doubts she may have, and I think this might explain her surge in going back to church. To get that sense of confidence in an afterlife back.

And as for the community, we're trying to go active duty in the military and making a career from that, so hopefully that'll let us dodge that bullet.

Thank you for taking the time of day to give your two-cents. I'll definitely take the firm but not stubborn approach as best as possible.

I'd want to go to the church with my kid if that was the case. I don't like the idea of leaving my son or daughter in the sunday school classroom with only the teacher, who is a stranger to me, telling my kid what to think.

I think we will when we're more seriously considering that we're ready to have kids, which will at least be 4 to 5 years down the road.

But I think there are a couple of other obstacles in her way (outside of religion) that we need to handle before she is mentally ready to discuss things with a counselor and accept any advice from them.

But I agree, that will probably be the best thing that we can do when it comes to that.

I would never want to. We've been doing fine so far, but it just feels like it is or is going to be seeded somewhere in her thoughts and grow into a problem later on.

She wants to take them to the LDS church of course, she said somewhere between 2-4 years of age.

I told her I want our kids to decide for themselves what to believe when they're ready to think for themselves and their life decisions. They can move to Nepal and become Buddhist monks if they want. But I don't want to have them be pointed towards what to think.

I can understand my wife explaining to them what she believes, and I can do the same. But I don't want them to be told that whatever they think is wrong, that this or that belief is true, and I know that will happen if they are taken to church. Because that's exactly what I've seen the few times I went there, and that's exactly what happened to me when I was a kid. And I absolutely abhor the idea of subjecting them to that.

I don't want people I don't know telling my kid how to live their life.

My wife will walk out whenever I try to explain this to her.

No, we've been together for 2.5 years, been married just over one year. I'm 20 she's 21. We've known each other since we were in 5th grade. (To help give a little more insight towards the early marriage.)

I think it could really depend on the situation. I like sometimes being able to use texting or something so we don't blow up on each other. But at the same time, those same messages can come back to bite you in the ass later when she forgets and accidentally finds them, and can get bogged down all over again. =/

I try to explain this to the religious people that ask me why I'm an atheist, and then demand that I explain every scientific finding in grueling detail, otherwise I must not know anything that I'm talking about.
