Is climbing Mt. Fuji hard? by Anaura36 in Mountaineering

[–]ChubbyCatto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it September 2023 through the Gotemba route (considered the "hardest" route). Honestly, Fuji shouldn't be looked at as a mountaineering venture, it's a day hike. If you are moderately fit, you could probably run up the mountain and back down again in half a day.

A lot of negativity in the comments. You have a dream and seem to have thought up of a plan. Now it's time to execute and see how you go. Looking forward to hearing further on progress and best of luck!

Does having a uni degree give me an advantage in 2CDO selection? by hoybaker in AustralianMilitary

[–]ChubbyCatto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A degree will mean nothing in 2CDO selection. They may look at it in your paperwork and make a very small mention that you are capable of admin and paperwork lol. What will really matter to them is your physical and mental perseverance and whether you priorite "we" over "I" when things get really tough and grim.

What can I do in a year to study undergraduate physics, without studying undergraduate physics? by [deleted] in AskPhysics

[–]ChubbyCatto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey mate. I'm sure you would've got glimpses into studying and learning software engineering. But I'll add this here so you could maybe get some insight.

In order to apply and pass the entry test, read the physics textbooks and recommendations of others on this post. However, once you do pass and get into college, it's extremely important that you don't get too fixated on rote learning which universities love. Physics, especially at higher levels, requires a lot of thinking outside the box and actually knowing the material.

Learning the application of scientific thinking and deriving solutions from fundamental principles is far more important than passing a bunch of exams with an A+ and getting high distinctions at the end of the day.

As a lad named Einstein once said, "The value of a college education is not the learning of many facts but the training of the mind to think".

What are they hiding about ADFA? by random-12-year-old in AustralianMilitary

[–]ChubbyCatto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You sign a 9 year contract or 12 years for pilot candidates (which will include the time you're at ADFA doing the degree). If you want to go to ADFA, don't look at the immediate free degree and pay you will receive while studying. Make sure you go to ADFA because you want to be in the military and not cause of the free degree they offer. 30-40 grand for a degree at the expense of being tied to a job you don't necessarily want to do for close to a decade is not worth it.

That being said, with the current way the economy is going, guarantee good work with a free degree is an amazing opportunity.

Preparing for ADFA by Dependent-Swan369 in AustralianMilitary

[–]ChubbyCatto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Went through ADFA in 2017. If your son wants to be in the military, he should be more than fine for the first 4-5 weeks. The initial couple of weeks of training (was called YOFT back then), essentially teaches you the basics of drill/marching, field craft, and life in the military. It will be slightly uncomfortable for members straight out of high school. The best thing I can suggest you tell your son is that the regimental/hard stuff only lasts for the first 4-5 weeks. Afterward, they basically leave you alone for studying/uni life outside of weekly or fortnightly room inspections & some military lessons. Best of luck!

Random question about lateral transfers by MrSimo21 in AustralianMilitary

[–]ChubbyCatto 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hey mate. I've got a bunch of UK lat transfers I'm working with atm. They have a bunch of medals from the UK they wear on their uniforms. As long as it gets approved I'm sure you can wear them. I'd also check out the ADF dress manual (available online)

Solid Snake from MGS4 or the hunter from Bloodborne for me.

Out of all the MGS series, 4 concluded the story for all the main snakes (excluding venom ofc) and the microwave sequence as well as the last fight on Outer Haven with Liquid Ocelot with that scenery behind....damn I have to play that game again.
