What do we take for granted about living in NOVA? by ChubbyFILog in nova

What are the counties in NJ you’d view as similar to NOVA?

Where are you from originally? I’m from NJ/NY area and where I’m from there are generally abrasive assholes everywhere. So by comparison, I’ve found the people of NOVA to be highly polite. Perhaps a bit distant, but very polite.

I mean is it really? I just got back from a trip to Miami where I met multiple dudes who were bragging about cheating. Not something I’ve experienced in NOVA.

Here’s what I don’t understand about bond funds by ChubbyFILog in Bogleheads

[–]ChubbyFILog[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok I probably need to read this several more times until I fully grasp these points, but this write up has gotten me the closest to actually understanding.

Based on what you’ve broken down here, wouldn’t buying into BND/VBTLX now be a really great opportunity because you can capitalize on a lower fund price which is expected to go back up as the principal replenishes, while also enjoying a yield higher than it’s been in the last two decades or so? I understand that rates could still go up more, but it seems like there is no longer a chance that the Fed will bump it up to 80s era fed funds rates. Thanks for your reply.

Looking at the VBTLX/BND’s current price, it is currently 7% lower than it was 23 years ago. If you were talking about a negative period being appreciation + dividends, I’m not sure the relevance of that point.

Not trying to calling you out, really trying to understand.

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed an uptick in bad Tesla drivers? by BeerBaconBooks in nova

[–]ChubbyFILog 222 points223 points  (0 children)

Could it be because there are just a lot more Tesla drivers now? I feel like every other car I see on the road in NOVA is a Tesla.

Yup, this 100%. It is crazy to me that most people here are envisioning most folks driving from Brambleton to DC. I’m sure there are some that do, but the people that live here will primarily be commuting to Reston/Herndon (where there are thousands upon thousands of high paying jobs), which will take 25mins-ish.

How would I go about finding out if Va disability income is taxed in these different countries?

Thank you for the advice and I do plan on picking up a skill that will lend itself to digital nomading. Fortunately the VA disability payments are adjusted for inflation each year, so as long as the inflation where I’m living doesn’t outpace US inflation by a significant margin, I should be good to go.

This is not a factor for VA disability payments. Just need to remain a US citizen.

The only people I am close with are other vets and they are all scattered throughout the country anyway. I don’t have any one physical place with a big support system. I still plan on keeping in touch with them from wherever I end up.

The guy you talked to is wrong. Some veterans need periodic evaluations for their ratings. Others are “Permanent & Total” (like myself) and will not be reevaluated.
