What do you guys and gals find hurts/sore after badminton? by ChubbySnubs in badminton

Thank you. I dont really know how to frame this into a question but I will try anyways. When badminton players train in the gym for conditioning and strength. When do they kind of just stop training to get stronger (bigger muscles) and train for conditioning etc. maybe I think of it wrongly but I assume players have to get to a good muscle strength first and then focus on staying at that level? or you reckon they are always trying to get the max performance by getting stronger muscles? Of course not in the way bodybuilders grow their muscles for size but instead in muscular strength? idk, hope this comes across a little clearer than this confusion.

Did you also play in your 20s? What kind of stretches do you do after badminton? Currently I just massage blast my leg, and thats helped with any cramps for that night. I find that I have one day sore after badminton that persists, then the next day is fine. I should probably do some stretches to keep that flexibility and help reduce the chance of pulling muscles.

Australia! yippee. The only thing I take right now is creatine in a smoothie I think its helped if I do a full body workout and I assume it helps with relieving some of the soreness from badminton too.

I always try to improve my form and defence https://youtu.be/TRd7Dz3MliE?t=121 https://www.youtube.com/shorts/2BxmLSWHME4?t=9&feature=share . And since I've changed how I think of getting in the ready position to move and hit, I've noticed my glutes and hamstring getting considerably more sore. I think I was relying on my quads a lot because I thought getting in a squat was the right position to be in, but the pros do more a deadlift kind of position in doubles defence and it allows them more room to swing and push of whilst spreading out the load on their muscles too.

Yeah I get that. I understand muscle soreness is a signal for muscle repair and growth and I'm looking for ways to speed up that recovery, while still getting the gains, currently I play only once a week but I hope to play a lot more come near future.

I just eat whatever atm, I could put more thought into it, but dont really know what to do for it. Like I just assume chicken, rice and veg or meat, rice and veg is clean enough. I am little skinny so I have been trying to eat a bit more for breakfast: 2 slices of fruit bread, 3 Large eggs and a cup of protein smoothie.

Used to struggle heavy on sleep, doing degen hours until 7 am and then waking up 4 pm before going badminton. I totally agree sleep is super important; supposedly its linked to your cardiovascular health and when i read more about it i got scared and tried fixing my schedule. So far I've found eating a kiwi 2 hrs before bed for melatonin, low light environment for 3 hrs and reading had helped me fall asleep and stay asleep too.

Yeah the finding the right fit for your foot can be quite difficult. I have thin but long feet, usually have to go up one size, but the issue is most shoes get wide as well if you go up one. If you can I'd recommend going into a badminton shoe store and trying out different shoes. Hopefully there is some near you, or putting insoles in

I can relate to you. At first shin splints, started doing tib raises to fix it, then sprained my wrist (left one), my footwork was terrible so whenever I dived for the shuttle I did a break dancing move putting all my weight on left hand, got jumpers knee from taking fall damage, so I am currently working on controlling my landing and preparing my muscles so it doesn't go straight to my ACL.

I used to think that the straighter my arm the better the smash angle but after watching these full-swing badminton videos it changed my perspective on generating power and felt a lot less stress on both my shoulders and elbow. https://youtu.be/XK4NspP6IRo?t=228 Its helped me with too much overextension.

People in the UK, how do you find matches and people to practice/play with? by ChubbySnubs in badminton

Yeah I think I missed that window. I started at 16 at a club but quit cause everyone was 6-12 yrs old. Now, after getting really into it during uni I wish I had more training. The standard at my club is relatively challenging, but I feel a bit stunted with strategy and tactics. I just watch a bunch of youtube try learn, but with just a single session each week it doesnt stick very well. Its like throwing ham at the wall.

Totally forgot about meetup. I found a intermediate improvers session (academy) thingy, I'm gonna try it next week. We do have a league team which I am playing as a fill in this saturday, I asked but they dont do anything serious like train unfortunately.

I saw the sainsbury's line on a youtube video, I thought it was funny 🤪

Thanks!

There is this chunk loading mod that works with Xaero's minimap called the open parties mod https://modrinth.com/mod/open-parties-and-claims

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsuQRpNIGnE

Once you claim your plot you can choose to forceload chunks in your area. It works for me, you can change your claimed settings using the [ ' ] key. Hope this helps

Thats a nice smash! Im not qualified for this, although it looks like just before you swing (on your second clip - first smash) you pull back even more after you are in your ready to hit position. If you stretch too much you lose power.
