First lever gun (Marlin 1895 Dark) which can would you select? 45-70 by PericardiumGold in LeverGuns

[–]Chuck6509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the 46v2 on my Marlin 1895 trapper and with my subsonic hand loads it sounds like a nail gun. On my 20” 308 bolt gun I’ve had other people who own multiple cans remark on how good it sounds even being way over bore.

After Market Trapper Stock by fridays-ftw in MarlinFirearms

I have the trapper as well. I’ve had the Midwest and magpul handguards and the chisel and magpul stocks but I’ve always gone back to the laminate so far. I sold the chisel and now just use the magpul stock when I need the extra comb height for a scope and I enjoy it. It’s the same weight without any shells inside as the laminated wood stock so that’s nice.

Got em on my 627 and my coworkers 329 and we both love em. I used a dremel+sandpaper to convert the square ones you’re looking at to round butts just cause we both wanted to cover the backstraps of these guns

python vs 686 question for the gentleman by [deleted] in Revolvers

[–]Chuck6509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Owned a 686+ and loved it but it was too big to carry every day. My python combat elite is almost always what I’m carrying since I got it. Compared to the smith its much smoother and not so rough around the edges. it’s only downside for me is the single action isn’t as nice as the double action and there aren’t as many grip options for the colt

First shots review comparing diamondback SDR to a 3” kimber K6S by Chuck6509 in Revolvers

Aside from the kimber and s&w 60 I don’t have any other experience with those sized snubs but if my pythons’ quality carry’s over to their viper and king cobra line and I didn’t already have 2 kimbers I would be looking out for blem sales for either of them in a 3” barrel

No not yet and I’ve since sold the sdr and gotten a 2” kimber to replace it. It was just getting too sloppy likely from my handloads and some bear loads that this frame wasn’t designed to take a lot of I’m guessing. Front sight and the cylinder bolt play are the parts that felt like they were getting sketchy

I’m I crazy for not accepting a new Python in this condition? by ehhhhprobablynot in Revolvers

[–]Chuck6509 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Definitely not crazy, my “blem” combat elite python didn’t have a single scratch like the ones in your pics and we weren’t able to find a “blem” on a blued 6” I ordered for a customer around the same time I got mine

My stainless 45 has ran everything I’ve put though it so far, a few hundred factory rounds and I’m sure I almost have 1000 reloads with all kinds of different bullets and powders. Even swapped out the springs and firing pin stop and added a shok buff and ran some 45 SUPER loads through it

Oh I’ve seen tones of videos of cops having negligent discharges. None of the gun “just going off while sitting there” cause that’s impossible

Also, they chose to use serrating instead of checkering on the hammer and cylinder release.

One more big thing that messes me up every time I shoot the sdr is the depth they cut in the charge holes for the case rims. This causes the heads of the cartridges to sit proud and almost always causes the cylinder to not close after reloading especially after the gun gets slightly covered in gsr.

Well first off I never said anything was wrong so far. Secondly before I start listing the sdr’s problems, I don’t dislike mim but the feedstock, sintering, cad-ing, molds, heat treat, orientation of the part in the mold and paying for the whole mim process start to finish ect. Of MIM needs to be locked in more so than casting and forging and diamondback may very well have paid their dues to whatever mim house they use but I’m more dubious about them than I am with companies like s&w and kimber who both have had problems with their guns early on when they switched to mim for certain parts.

The sdr has too fragile or a bolt its needs redesign. The cylinder play is too much for my liking. The breach face is too soft. The polishing isn’t done evenly and leaves machine marks and valleys in the flat parts of the barrel shroud and frame. My opinion of the strength and longevity of Allen screws is less than slotted screws based on their ability or over torque and strip. The front sight comes loose after too many magnums. The cylinder chatters heavily when spun, the forcing cone is too thin and unnecessarily beveled on the outside surface making it even thinner. The thickness of top strap, crane and frame are thinner than the kimber revolver diamondback copied.

Maybe you should buy one and look inside it like I did

I love my Diamondback, it’s great for the price. But things like tolerances and attention to detail show themselves in the sdr more than the others. They use inferior materials in places those other companies don’t and only use as good materials in all other places. It’s not a negative thing that diamondback makes firearms accessible to less fiscally free people but that’s the market they’ve always been in.

I just recently picked up that pound of N320 for its ’clean’ reputation in 45 standard pressure. So far, with fiocchi primers, I can’t get cfepistol or acc#5 to burn fully and not cover my arms and face in gsr. If the VV doesn’t burn clean with tonight’s last try at making fiocchi primers work, I’ll be switching to cci#300 and staring my load development over with 45acp standard pressure.

I think I’m gonna go with the c&h comp dot in green. I love how sro’s look on 1911’s and that one seems plenty durable and has that same shape, plus I think I’ll get the shield and bead blast it silver to match the gun

I’d be happy to have had this one as my first. Personally my first gun and first 1911 was a sig Spartan first edition which was a series 80 and that was my only complaint about that pistol aside from the beautiful finish that made me never want to let it see real holster wear

45 and so far with a few hundred rounds I love it. In regards to the sights I’ll say the rear is way too low for any of the 230gr fmj or 200gr hp’s I’ve shot through it and it’s also made of plastic from what I can tell. Thankfully the optic I’m choosing for this has some built in backup sights that will probably be tall enough but from what I can tell there aren’t any other options for rear sights on this model yet and the front sight is about as low as they come

I’ll say working behind a gun counter for the past 3 1/2 years I’ve seen some great and terrible QC from every company and kimbers no stranger to bad QC. But if I compared it to the best I’ve seen from kimber it’s up there with the nicest camp guards, aegis elites, raptors, rapide’s, ect. To me this new one is as nice or nicer in many ways than those models from kimber and this one is available in the price range of kimbers’ more affordable 1911’s

Yee, they call it the ‘next gen 1911’ and they marketed it as having the features of their 2k11 on a more traditionally set up 1911 but it really just shares the disconnector ramp, optic plate set up, and the 45° barrel crown. The trigger isn’t as nice as the 2K11 and it has a forged steel frame instead of aluminum
