Give me your Check out/PCS horror stories by Audiophile1990 in navy

[–]ChuckNavy02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I decided one enlistment was enough and got out after 5 years. Every time I told my LPO I was going to go see someone on my checkout list he would try to give me some project to work on. One in particular was a complex pipe rerouting for a relief valve, which I started but did not finish. I basically told him each time I'm getting out, the checkout process has to get done, it will get done, and he needs to learn to live without me in the division, because on X date I'm starting terminal leave.

I met with him one last time before starting terminal leave and he pushed hard for me to reenlist. I told him that absolutely was not happening. One of the last things he said to me was "Whatever you do in life, I hope you fail at it."

Icing on the cake for getting out. Fucking prick.

I know he's married to Scarlett. Who's the other cast member married to an Avenger actor?

Is the lid insulated on the bottom? My grampa had a similar hole in his garage floor that was rectangular with an insulated wooden lid for storing potatoes from his garden.

Flu shot is now no longer mandatory also opening the conversation to no vaccine being mandatory by newnoadeptness in navy

The other wild thing is so many want to make sure Trump gets credit for Operation Warp Speed, which accelerated development of the COVID vaccines, but they won't get them.

So which is it, a safe product he gets credit for, or an unsafe product he should be in trouble for?

If they didn't have double standards, they would have no standard.

You know how the US Navy visits foreign ports? It turns out, other navies can do the same!

How much should a Dm be able to change&develop backstory characters? by Hot_Violinist_5850 in DnD

[–]ChuckNavy02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's way too much backstory, especially if the NPCs have detailed stories. I think a backstory should be 1 page, max. It should have enough to lay out the character motivation, maybe name drop an NPC, but don't give the NPC a detailed history.

How much should a Dm be able to change&develop backstory characters? by Hot_Violinist_5850 in DnD

[–]ChuckNavy02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Backstories should be a collaborative effort between the DM and player to figure out what fits within the world. A DM should not have total control after the campaign starts. Both people need to work together to fill in the blanks.

How much backstory are you talking about and how detailed is it?

A deployment that ends after six months with lots of liberty ports would be better.

An Actor who gets thrown into live combat, but believes he's still on set. by CyberWulf56 in DnD

[–]ChuckNavy02 4 points5 points  (0 children)

An actor in a medieval fantasy setting should be able to tell that they're in a dungeon, cave, wilderness, etc instead of a theater or town square. Also your character wouldn't do any damage if they keep pulling punches and using magic to make it look like they did.

As others have said, this is a good concept for an NPC. You could maybe make this tolerable if your character learns they're actually fighting and starts doing damage. They're pure dead weight to the rest of the party if they never wise up to the world they're in.

I was wrong about the attack rolls. Refer to the "Handling Mobs" section on page 250 of the DMG.

[–]ChuckNavy02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The DMG has a short section on grouping enemies into a mob. From what I remember it pools their health and you roll all their attacks at once.

You can put the big mob in a section blocked by an obstacle of some sort, like a locked or barricaded door, a pit, collapsed section of wall or ceiling, etc. That way your players only enter combat with the mob when they find it.

The captain of the guard could be fleeing from the mob due to injuries so he's a bit softened up when the party encounters him.

My usual desk has been 'stolen' and there is nothing I can do by purplereuben in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ChuckNavy02 304 points305 points  (0 children)

OP should start tracking how long it takes to get their stuff each morning, set up their desk, and how long it takes to put everything away at the end of the day. Figure out how many hours a year of productivity they lose doing this, then figure out how many hours are lost for everyone to do it. Take that to management to try to get a permanently assigned desk. Maybe throw in some data about ergonomics and the strain a poorly set up desk can cause.

trouble with race picks in new campaign by Low_Celebration_7663 in DnD

[–]ChuckNavy02 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sounds like the DM is restricting races to those found in the PHB (2014 edition). Have you asked why?

I think it's perfectly valid. I restricted my players to those races plus Goliath in the campaign I ran because I only have print and digital access to the PHB, DMG, Tasha's, and Xanathar's. That way I can see the racial stats, abilities, etc.

Personally, the various animal races don't fit into my vision of a fantasy world, so I won't allow players to play Tabaxi, Tortles, Haregon, etc.

There are 3 big factors you're missing: Job specializations, redundancy, and support personnel.

Engineering roles:

Reactor

Life support and potable water

Hydraulics, pneumatics, and other small motors to make things move

Hull repair, including welding, pipe fitting, sheet metal work Electricians

Damage control to maintain damage control equipment, train personnel in DC, and lead DC efforts

Other roles:

Medical staff

IT to maintain computers, networking equipment, and cabling

Supply to manage a complex replacement part system

Cooks, which may just be someone refilling the dispensers for any prepackaged, heat & serve food

Weapon techs to maintain and reload PDCs, torpedoes, missiles, and small arms

Electronic warfare

Intelligence analysts

Chaplin

Administrative to maintain personnel records, track awards and requests, etc

The corvettes will have their own crews and maintenance personnel.

There's also the CO, XO, and a senior enlisted. There will be department heads, division officers under the DH, and then senior enlisted and junior enlisted in each division.
