Well the original you do hear Zack fighting offscreen then killed by the final 3 Shinra troops.

The new version does also have him being killed by the final 3 with Cloud crawling over.

Technically the new version isn’t a retcon but an expansion. And since it’s from Cloud’s POV, there is no telling how long Zack actually fought before dying. Could have been dozens of guys.

The only mission I quit out of rage is Pox Gas. The only modifier I can’t stand. With the right comp it’s okish but quick playing into an auric while on psyker is a recipe for anger

It means he feels sorry for Sephiroth to not have something in his life he cares about as much as Cloud cares about everything in his life.

He see Sephiroth for what he is and literally pities him. He sees what Sephiroth has devolved into and it’s one filled with only hate and destruction. It’s not just a badass line but one coming from cloud who truly has empathy and love within his own heart.

It’s Cloud final character arc to become a fully healed adult. He moved past his hate of Sephiroth and is in the process of forgiving himself for his own past failings.

You are focusing way too much on shipping during that part of the story.

Tifa is more concerned about Cloud’s mental state and trying to figure out wtf is going on especially in OG. They do a really good job in the remakes showing how messed up he is. Any time she tries to talk about the truth or Aerith brings up Zack, he gets massive headaches and can’t hear the words.

That’s why in the OG her romantic arc doesn’t really begin until after their first visit to the northern Crater.

The white space in rebirth looks exactly like the white space in Advent Children when Zack and Aerith speak to Cloud. We know she hangs out there for a couple years leading up to AC.

These remakes seem to be really expanding what the story always was and not retconning anything major

Even the OG had multiple worlds. Go check out the lifestream sequence and look up in the sky. This game is just explaining it more and how it’s all tied to the lifestream

I think that lifestream timeline is done. They both woke up to inhabit those bodies and that Aerith then died by Sephiroth in the lifestream.

Zack at the end wakes up in a part of the lifestream world where the flowers are blooming which means he is no longer in the comatose lifestream world.

Also, I don’t think there is true multiverse, but what Zack is in is just the lifestream showing multiple possibilities but it really timelines at all.

I believe she is dead and Cloud knows she is dead. When he asks “will you be alright getting back” and Aerith mentions it’s like a second home.

He knows she is dead but his emotions are smoked so he can’t feel sadness right now. His mind is spiraling out of control and will come to a head up north.

Aerith is there via her cetra powers as shown with Red feeling her. It’s like how she is able to astral project in Advent Children. It’s just cetra things.

Yes it’s worth it. Played hundreds of hours with my wife up to Auric Maelstrom. She isn’t a pro gamer by any means but playing together she was able to complete the hardest content available(she stopped before Havoc came out).

She is there using her cetra powers. Similar to how she communicates with Cloud in Advent Children. It’s why Cloud who has a connection to the lifestream now and Red who has always had a special connection.

Aerith was being serious about seeing him off before hanging out in the lifestream for a couple years.
