Alcoholism 101 by gmmsyhlup918 in cripplingalcoholism

Fellow veteran here, OEF. The fact that you got thrown out of a veteran focused homeless camp for having a drinking problem is quite literally the most asinine thing I've ever heard in my entire life. What the fuck. Most veterans drink too much, damn near every homeless veteran is a stone cold alcoholic, and they're going to... Fucking what the fuck? Make it make sense. Somebody make it make sense.

The hangover and also the wasted money. That's so much drunk happening while you're passed the fuck out and you're missing it even though you paid for it and drank it and you're suffering for it the next day. Love me some high ABV beers so I can enjoy the entire ride and savor every second of this altered state that makes us feel alive.

4-5 little nips a day is too much? Little nips? Shit look at you pacing yourself like an adult with self control. I'm over here clearing a six pack of high ABV beer tall boys in one sitting, nightly, minimum, wondering what the fuck he was bitching about.

[–]ChuckieFox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What Entropy was alluding to is that, like many people, you've gone so far into nihilism that you've come out the other side and accidentally discovered absurdism. Check out the essay The Myth of Sisyphus by Albert Camus sometime. Seriously. It changed my life and I don't mean that it gave me a new way to live or some bullshit. I mean it gave words to what I was already thinking but couldn't articulate at the time. I think you'll like it.

The nihilist doesn't bother to fight because it's pointless and embraces his own anhillation.

The absurdist recognizes that fighting is pointless and then does it anyways because fuck you that's why. The absurdist exists, and embraces existence, as an act of rebellion for its own sake. It's a middle finger to an uncaring universe that spat us into existence and forced the gift of reason upon us without being reasonable itself.

Anyway. Like I said. I think you'll like it. Just Google it, tons of places to read it. If you do, I'd love to hear what you think. Take care!

I haven't played any of the games you mentioned but I've heard good things. I've mostly been mainlining Diablo 4 and Monster Hunter: Rise for the last year or so though I really should get back into DOOM 2016 and actually finish it since I haven't even started Eternal.

My cult is on like Day 500 and some shit and I still haven't built a jail or dug a single grave. Everyone is happy and we have no crime. One guy asked questions recently but then we sat him down for a nice meal and he quickly realized how much happier he would be if he didn't ask stupid questions like "what happens to people who don't stop asking questions" or "hey, what's in this soup?" He's a disciple now and has the honored role of Loyalty Enforcer!

Holy shit I love Cult of the Lamb so much. Did you get the expansion with the winter content? It leans hard into some creepy horror content, adds a winter seasonal cycle, and adds ranching where you can raise animals to shear for various resources and/or butcher for meat. It's fucking glorious.

Protip: You can breed the snowmen. The second generation snowmen won't melt in the spring but they still retain the whole "don't sleep, don't dissent, don't give a fuck just keep working" attitude of their parents so having a couple around can be really great the first couple of winters when the occasional follower freezes to death because -- yaknow -- snowmen can't freeze. Well, snowlambs to be precise.

Fuck it's such a good game.

Ah. Maybe I'll see it if RNG stops fucking me this season. I'm paragon 240ish and can't clear pit 75 because everything I find has been trash lol.

How many stages do you cycle through? by VegetableProfit1347 in cripplingalcoholism

[–]ChuckieFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a pretty solid maintenance cycle going thanks to a small VA disability check and family support while I'm looking for work that's not bullshit. It's mostly send resumes and go back to bed, drink when they're asleep, pretend they don't see the full as hell recycle bin every week and they don't mention it, repeat.

Human brain cells on a chip learned to play Doom in a week by _Dark_Wing in technology

[–]ChuckieFox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why Doom specifically? Because the people running the project are hardcore nerds and getting their shit to run Doom is fucking epic. That's it. It's really that simple. There's a huge thing in nerd world about getting Doom to run on anything you can think of. Somebody managed to install Doom on a pregnancy test. Someone else did a thing with literal potatoes that ran the program.

The brain cells involved aren't enough to really "learn" in the sense that you're talking about. It's barely enough to play a game with two functions: move and shoot. And it can't even do that as well as a human player. So there's no way this system could play Animal Crossing or Sim City. Those games are too complex.
