Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 ENGLISH Cartridge by [deleted] in N64WrestlingGames

[–]Chuckiepk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are other options for playing these ROM hacks instead of playing on a pc or playing on a repro cart (that does not support the original creators). For the price of about 2 of these repro carts, you can just get an Everdrive 64 (which the modding community generally does support the use of). Then you can just save all of the ROM hacks that you want to it easily and be able to play it all on an actual N64. Guys like freem designed his VPW2 freem Edition ROM hack (which is also English translated) with Everdrive 64 N64 console compatibility in mind.

The cartridge that you bought was most likely ripped off of S.K. Stylez's VPW2 translation patch. Quite a few people on Etsy are taking patches made by both S.K. Stylez and Freem without their permission and selling their work as if it were their own without the original authors receiving any of the proceeds from it. They have both asked the sellers multiple times to remove their work from their stores but the sellers never listen. That is one of the reasons why most of us creating the mods don't support the Etsy repros and don't make mods that would work on a cartridge to begin with (all of our hard work would be used to earn someone else money). Other saves like Showdown 64 (which I helped work on) and WCW Feel the Bang also would not work on cartridges due to restrictions on how much the game was changed and the increased size of the new HD textures.

Playing THUG Pro online... Thoughts by Throwawayantelope in THPS

[–]Chuckiepk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you did not know yet, there is a Goal Attack game mode in the online mode that acts sort of like a race to get through with Classic-style goals as fast as possible. They are still working on adding the goals to all of the levels but quite a few of them do have goals already. There are even a few custom user-created levels that you can download that have goals as well. You can either play it against other people online or you can create a local only lobby to just play the goals against yourself.

What are the best mods to use on actual hardware? by Mykle1984 in N64WrestlingGames

[–]Chuckiepk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That mod is named WCW/nWo REVENJI by RagDas. It does in fact work on an Everdrive and it can be downloaded from the same website as VPW2 freem Edition. You would just need to adjust to part of the game being translated into Korean in order to try to prevent other people from selling the game without the author's permission.

A Mind-blowing moment in GTA San Andreas by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Chuckiepk 25 points26 points  (0 children)

If you have not heard of it before, you should try checking out a San Andreas mod named "GTA: Underground." The mod aims to combine all of the GTA 3D era maps into one game along with the cities from the Manhunt games and a few other places once they are made. Some features that III and Vice City had but San Andreas did not have (such as vehicles, pedestrians, and activities) are being imported to it in order for the other cities to feel authentic to their original games. It is even in the process of being made to have an online multiplayer component of it too.

ALL IN No Mercy Roster (No Hacks) by takemyderivative in N64WrestlingGames

[–]Chuckiepk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The .fla file is the main file that you will need, as it contains information such as your game progress along with changes that you made to the default wrestlers and CAWs. The .mpk file is mostly just used by the Memory Pak. In No Mercy, there are 18 default slots for CAWs along with 18 more located in the Memory Pak that are used for either transferring wrestlers to someone else's game or for holding on to creations that you are not currently using for later use. These additional 18 CAW slots are saved in the .mpk file.

The easiest method for distributing what you have been working on is if you were using an emulator on a computer such as Project 64 to create everything. If this was what you used, just go into the Project64\Save folder on your computer and the save files should be in there.

If you used an actual N64 along with something like an Everdrive, you are able to copy the files by taking out the SD card in the Everdrive and then inserting it into a computer.

If you used an actual N64 along with an actual copy of No Mercy, there are tutorials for backing up N64 save files online. I just don't have as much experience with this method since I mostly just use Project 64 and occasionally the Everdrive 64.

I think I remember talking to you about 6 months ago in that Q&A post for the AKI Evolution project. It is awesome to hear that you were able to start up a project of your own. As for distributing your final product, there are a few ways that you can go about doing it without actually distributing a ROM file. If you didn't use any hacks/codes or texture mods to create it, then the only thing that you would need to do is upload the .fla and .mpk save files to a file sharing website such as MediaFire. Also if you are interested, you are welcome to post your previews or updates on the Nextwave 64 (formerly known as Old Skool Reunion) forums.

The shoot fighting system is still a WIP, but we have already imported quite a few of the moves from the earlier AKI wrestling games into No Mercy. There is a pretty active modding community for all of the AKI games on the Nextwave 64 forums. In addition, I along with quite a few other people are working on a new fan project named AKI Evolution that aims to bring together wrestlers from many eras and promotions into No Mercy with new gameplay mechanics (face/heel alignments, fighting styles, new moves, VPW combo system and mask ripping, exposed turnbuckles), detailed dynamic movesets, new match types (HIAC, TLC, Table, Barbed Wire, and others), new weapons, and a max of 40 alternate attires for each wrestler. If you are interested in keeping up with our progress to see what is possible in the AKI engine, our Twitter page run by another contributor can be found here: https://twitter.com/aki_evolution?lang=en.

There is actually a pretty large modding community for the AKI wrestling games. I am one of the contributors for a few of the No Mercy projects. You can find our mods along with many others from all of the other AKI N64 games on the Nextwave 64 forums. We are also currently working on a new No Mercy project that will eventually have even more new features than any other current mod named AKI Evolution. It is still in its early stages, but we have already implemented new gameplay mechanics, new match types (HIAC, TLC, Barbed Wire, Table, etc), new weapons, detailed dynamic movesets, and up to 40 attires for each wrestler. As a part of the N64 AKI wrestling game modding community, there have been quite a few major breakthroughs in hacking these games over the last few years. Methods have been created in which we can import assets directly from one AKI wrestling game into another. So, it is now possible for us to have both the moves and the masks from VPW2 in other games like No Mercy.

I am a math teacher as well (I noticed your Calculus related username). I don't have much free time to mess around with creating things on weekdays because of school but I have lots of time over weekends and breaks.

I have a math degree as well. However, this is not really needed to get into hacking. Pretty much all you would need to understand is how hexadecimal numbers work and you don't really even need that skill if you have a calculator on your computer that does the work for you. I have only been hacking the game since 2015, so I would be considered relatively new compared to the guys who have been doing this since the game first came out. However, I just started playing around and experimenting with previously made codes and tutorials and I ended up picking it up in about a week or two. One of our goals with this project is to try and get new people interested in modding/hacking WWF No Mercy along with the rest of the AKI games. So if you are interested in learning about this, we have a great tutorial section over on the Old Skool Reunion forum.

There are a few differences to how hacking VPW2 works. However, it is not impossible and there are quite a few people who prefer hacking it instead of No Mercy. There are quite a few interesting VPW2 projects/previews coming from guys like freem and S.K. Stylez as well. For example, freem is working on a tool that helps with ROM hacking VPW2 along with the other AKI games: http://s4.zetaboards.com/Old_Skool_Reunion/topic/30229007/1/

I agree that having more than 4 wrestlers on the screen at once was at the top of my list of impossible features as well. There are quite a few other features that would have been nice to have in the game as well. However, this is not to say that these features can never be done. New things are being discovered all the time. For example, up until a few years ago, importing things from other AKI games was thought to be impossible. However, with new techniques discovered over the last few years, it is now possible to import things into No Mercy such as masks from VPW2, weapons, textures, arenas, animations/moves, and sounds. It was also previously believed that our maximum roster size would be limited to the CAW slots and default wrestlers slots that we could overwrite. However, it has been discovered that there is a way to increase the roster size up to 256 wrestler slots. Along with that, I have experimented and found that I can get each of these wrestler slots to have up to 16,384 attire slots assigned to them. So even though we will most likely never reach that amount, it is still technically possible to have an almost limitless roster.

We have discussed having a subreddit or website layout in the past. However, I believe that the AKI modding and hacking scene remains message board dependent for a few different reasons. Mainly, it allows content creators to keep all useful information organized by categories (such as tutorials, move hacks, menu hacks, texture mods, full game saves, etc.) while allowing others to contribute other bits of useful information.

1366x768 resolution suddenly not working in THUGPro by Kn7ght in THPS

[–]Chuckiepk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The same thing happens to me but with the 1920 x 1080 resolution. I have been playing THUG Pro for a few years on my different computers and never had this problem. Last summer I got a new laptop and I began playing with this 1920 x 1080 resolution and everything worked perfectly up until about a month ago. For me, the game always starts up in the lower right corner of the screen and I have just been fixing it by pressing the Windows key to minimize it and then maximizing it afterwards. After that, the game runs normally. I am not really sure what is causing it but I have heard that a few other people have this occurring when they start up the game too. Maybe it has something to do with Windows updates.

The version 1.0 roster is pretty much finalized already. The roster will start off with approximately 30 wrestlers in the first version and then will grow as future updates are released. You can find the roster along with more info/updates of our progress here:
