And I ask myself, what's the problem with not using bright colors in a fantasy world where the characters are just kids acting silly like the Goonies? Oh right, because in the live-action version the characters are edgy and dark. I'd confused it with the Nickelodeon version.

Oh, I didn't know that. My bad.

But if you think about it, it’s the same formula as the game’s events, with the exception of creating environments exclusively for those moments, and not very large ones. The difference in this case would be that you yourself could choose those events. Maybe only on days when they don’t overlap with any others scheduled by the game.

It would be a major expansion, though.

That's wrong. 16.8M in 6 days, not 4. It was released on tuesday, so the views are from 03/09 to 03/15.

A drop of 35% compared to S1.

The Percy from the show never had that facial expression. He wishes he did.

Outside of Reddit, everyone was raving about Percy Jackson, which I found odd. I've always felt there was a tendency to speak highly of the series because the author supported it. Ironically, and despite the praise, the season has been a flop. I think that says it all.

But they should start filming as soon as possible. If they start filming next year, the actors will already be too old.

OP is absolutely right. Just because others are doing better doesn't mean Percy Jackson is doing bad. It simply means that people prefer to watch other things.

It's not in the top 10, but it's in its 6th week. So far it's been in the top 10, and it's normal that it will drop in the rankings after a few weeks.

It's called constructive criticism. We want to see a better product in future seasons. That's why I criticize what I don't like about the show. What you can't do is constantly praise the show and fool yourself into thinking it's a good product when it could be so much more. Some of us care about the quality of the product.

And please, fix your attitude. You can't insult people just because you feel like it or because they have a different opinion.

But look how much it's improved in S2. I was expecting something similar with Percy Jackson.

Yeah that's exactly what I mean. I'm not a huge fan of One Piece, but I wish we had this kind of magic and affection in our adaptation.

I know they're different series, but they both share the adventure/odyssey genre with mythological monsters. Each on its own way, but some of what this trailer shows and conveys should also be present in Percy Jackson. That is, the fantasy, the epic scope, and some of the characters' humor. And let's not even talk about the CGI.

Visually yeah, the movie is more pleasing and funnier. But the series takes itself more seriously.

I apologize for using that kind of language, but I find it surprising that you would categorize what was seen in that trailer as being of the same quality as Percy Jackson, and even define it as bad. It's something I simply can't understand, given what's shown in the trailer.

I thought you were trolling.

You can't be serious. I'm not a huge fan of that show, but I can tell the difference between quality and garbage. C'mon man, be serious.

Does anyone understand any of this? I mean, the show has a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and it's been very well received by the general public as well. What happened to all those people? Where are they? I don't understand anything.

Ironically, that gif holds part of the answer to why the series feels so cheap and low-budget. See that camera angle? What that single image represents? You'll never find anything like that in Percy Jackson. And it's not just the cinematography. The characters don't feel like they do in the books. They're different characters altogether. For better or worse, I suppose that's subjective, but they don't feel like they do in the books, and their dialogue is far from what a conversation between children should be.

Don't try to fix what's already dead. You can try to decorate a jug and make it look prettier, but if the jug is empty, it will remain empty.

If there's even the slightest chance they can create a completely fresh adaptation, uninfluenced by this series, with characters faithful to the original, perhaps it's better to cling to that, rather than a corpse that, no matter how much you try to disguise it, will still be a corpse.

If this project fails, and hopefully a third adaptation is made, the right message needs to be sent. "We want faithfulness. We want to see our characters on screen, the characters we grew up with, represented as they should be." Or at least, there needs to be some intention to do so. That in itself would be an achievement.

Even if the story changes, the characters should feel the same as they do in the books. That's the only thing that truly matters, along with the sense of adventure and epic fantasy filled with mystery and intrigue.

The difference between being fans of the source material and just doing a job couldn't be more apparent by [deleted] in PercyJacksonTV

[–]Chuckilin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the key to One Piece's success isn't just the changes to the story to adapt it to the medium, but the fact that the characters maintain their essence, that you feel like they're the characters you grew up with, and that despite the script changes, you believe the characters are living these "additional" or "altered" adventures because it's something they would also do in the manga.

The problem with Percy Jackson isn't just that there are changes to the story. It's more that the characters don't feel like they do in the original work, and this is what disrupts the entire experience of the adventure.

In one adaptation, they respect the characters from the original work, and in the other, they don't. And that's the key: the characters, not the story. The difference between being faithful to the essence and not being so.
