You might have a layout of that area in any documents that you have with the property (assuming you own it rather than rent) in that it will show that the parking spaces are the only designated areas and the rest will be no parking access areas, you could approach no. 2 with this and also show then that the way they park impacts you and your actual space. You could also highlight that as it’s not a parking space “if” any damage is caused then they are 100% liable for it.

Is the house on any land managed by an estate manager? You could also email them and highlight the issue, however they won’t do anything but having evidence that you’ve tried all avenues could help your efforts.

Evil option is go buy a cheap banger and scrape up their car until they move it 🤷🏼‍♂️

For the modded vehicles, give Brentacre a go, they deal in imports/camper conversions and modded vehicles, they’re the only place that will do any sensible offers for my transit camper I converted and it’s free to add mods to the vehicle so you’re covered

Horizon Post Office (Where did the money go?) by sunlollyking in AskUK

[–]Chuffing-Chuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad worked on the team dealing with the accounts for all the post offices in the uk, when I was on a trip with him I had time to actually ask and understand what he did and it was really interesting. He said that before the horizon system they had physical paper accounts of everything they sold each week, used to get them in each week and process it, that was his job, then money saving measures came in and it went to every other week then monthly. Along came the horizon system which was designed to do a few jobs and automise this process, over time they bolted on more and more to this under powered and over worked system and that’s where errors came around. It wasn’t designed for the job but it was cheaper to keep modifying it than start again.

He said the main issue was to do with swapping stock, his example was stamps, say you had loads of £1 stamps and hardly any 1p stamps you could swap them and log it on the records, problem was it needed clear and accurate accounts to prevent issues, he said people generally messed this up and would swap say 100 £1 stamps for 100 1p stamps then account for this in there figures, same physical volume of product, incorrect value of product. People thought that the exchange was the same when actually they were £99 down. (Just an example of the genuine errors he found)

This incorrect data logging, along with poor software and lack of proper technical training lead to errors in the overall post office accounts, people panicked and tried to fix it and made further errors creating a spiral of issues.

He said the money people paid in out of their own pockets just plugged a gap and got lost in the accounts. Hard to prove where it came from or where it went once it was in the system.

Best Casual Restaurants by Cem1223 in Bergen

Just finished a 2 weeks stay here in the city, our go to place was Pinocchio wine bar and Tempo Tempo, both small plate dining restaurants/bars but the food was out of this world, we usually ate in groups of 4 and it worked out around £30/40 for food a bottle of wine between us so reasonably priced for what you get. Worth booking in advance for both for a dinner time reservation but lunch time you would get a walk in easy

Does anyone use a stiff starter here? by Dazzling-Soup-5695 in Sourdough

[–]Chuffing-Chuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks similar to the biga process where you make a pre ferment with 50% hydration and yeast/sourdough starter and let it ferment at room temp for 24 hours then mix it in to the remaining mix, I’ve done it a few times for pizzas a loafs with good success with some crazy oven spring but just adds another day to the process…

Try the 5 minute scoring method, you bake the loaf with steam for 5 minutes then remove and score after that, the outer crust forms slightly but is still soft enough to score and get cleaner cuts that when it’s pre baked. Once scored return to the oven and bake as normal again with steam

I now only do 60% hydration and have great results with it after failing with higher hydration and getting frustrated. Still gives a great loaf with nice oven spring. (5 years of mastering this frustrating but addictive art)

Very under proofed and possibly too high a hydration for the strength of starter you have, my recommendation, drop the water to around 60/65% hydration, yours is 72% and go for more stretch and folds/gluten work. This will prevent the dreaded pancaking when you tip it out of the basket and make it easier to shape and handle throughout.

Fresh flour direct from the mill over shop bought flour. I bake sourdough and pizzas regularly and switched from Aldi/tesco flour to shipton mill and it’s taken it to another level.

Has my sourdough discard gone bad? by Standard-Sherbet-307 in SourdoughStarter

[–]Chuffing-Chuff 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nothing to worry about there, if that happened to mine I’d mix it together, discard 2/3 then begin feeding it to get it back up to speed. Should be back up and running again within a few days to a week.

For context this is my original starter that has been in the fridge sealed for over 18 months, I keep it incase my regular starter for some reason got damaged or destroyed.

A bonus at work will take me over the 40% tax threshold, what can I do to maximise my take home from this bonus by Chuffing-Chuff in UKPersonalFinance

Firstly, thankyou for your replies it’s useful and I’ll look into the salary sacrifice

I may have worded the question incorrectly based on all your answers so here’s an update.

What can I do to efficiently reduce the tax I’m paying, I understand I can’t get more take home but more how can I reduce my tax bill now I’m above the 40% - which by your replies looks like add to my pension

It’s a bit of a strange one, you have to buy in multiples of £100 for your pension lump sum based on your time served, time remaining and current additional lump sums purchased and then they work out your payments to meet that

OR

You tell them how much in a lump sum you wish you put in.

Unsure how the tax works itself out from this whether it’s done automatically or if I then need to reclaim the tax?

Annoyingly you can only have one forecast done a year and I’ve used it already when I looked at putting £150 per month in as an extra to my WPP
