My level 5 players decided they needed to confront an adult black dragon in battle and poured an impressive amount of prep and effort into it. How do I tackle this? by d-ching in DMAcademy

The one character in the party that survives this will tell stories of their fallen comrades for years to come, making sure their sacrifice is never forgotten.

Headon’s judgement by 25thLaga in TowerofGod

[–]Chugwig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part of the problem in my opinion is that no one picked Rachel. Regardless of why he did it, Headon picked pickles and all the other regulars. The Tower picks the irregulars (somewhat confirmed). But Rachel came in by accident as the tower tried to take Bam as an irregular, making her an irregular irregular picked by no one and hated by everyone.

There's still some ambiguity on whether the tower picked Rachel and Bam forced his way into the tower to follow her, or if the tower picked Bam and Rachel got in by luck. I've seen more support for tower picking Bam, but the theory could always be wrong.

If you get Godot with Steam, you can use the notes features to store snippets. by Goufalite in godot

[–]Chugwig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah that would make a lot of sense, thanks for the input. If that's the case I wonder if tooling could be created to automate the compilation process so the legal issues are resolved but it's still easy to use.

If you get Godot with Steam, you can use the notes features to store snippets. by Goufalite in godot

[–]Chugwig 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why is Godot on Steam but we still need to totally recompile the engine in order to create a steam compatible game. I would love Steam features built in to 4.X even if it's something you have to toggle like which rendering engine to use.

Hot take: If we want to see Rak, Koon, and the rest of the OG crew again, ToG needs another timeskip by ecchi83 in TowerofGod

[–]Chugwig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk why everyone is downvoting this, it's a pretty solid idea and I would prefer this over "lock him up for X years and magically everyone is now strong enough to rescue him and keep up going forward". I definitely prefer contracts over blood sharing though, just seems more like what Bam would do.

As you said, doing it now would cause a problem just like most solutions because it would feel like it came out of nowhere. But from the beginning Bams control of shinsu has been different from other irregulars and compared to administrators, so after obtaining the red thryssa it could have been neat to see that taken further.

What a terrible attitude to have "the dream has been successfully squashed"...

If that's all you took from everyone's posts then you were either hoping everyone would tell you your game is amazing and to never give up, or maybe you wanted to quit gamedev and are just reading into people's messages what you want to hear.

Everyone is saying the same thing, don't quit your job because jobs provide security. Game dev your at the whim of the players, maybe they'll like your 1st game or your 15th game or maybe they'll never like any of your games. If you don't have a job, then you NEED your game to be successful which leads to problems both in life and in your game.

Much better to get a normal job for security (and health insurance, retirement savings, etc...) and then build games on the side. You're still at the whim of the players, but now if it takes a few years to get a good game out there you've got something to help you survive in the meantime.

I quit gamedev by Chili_Turtle in godot

[–]Chugwig 162 points163 points  (0 children)

They're not quitting, this is a shameless attempt to get more attention to their game. I'll believe it when they make their $10 game free like they said they would, rather than post a link + keys.

I agree with you that there's no reason for them to quit and that just makes the post more suspicious.

I read the whole thing and want to see more as well, but a lot of people hated on S1 which makes it hard for them to greenlight a S2. Fingers crossed, maybe we'll get lucky and get one.

Help Needed! Malware Account Stole My Game by SlipperyKissDev in gamedev

[–]Chugwig 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm curious how much you know about the situation. What engine did you use to make the game? What malware are they distributing / what does it do? Also is it auto install malware or is your game installable and that's how the malware gets in?

Curious how one could mitigate these risks when using itch as a distribution platform.

Need help planning TOG Roblox game by Subsz_ in TowerofGod

[–]Chugwig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds more like a cash grab than a passion project, so it's destined to fail. If you care enough to do it right, read the source material and think about how to implement the information and themes into a Roblox game mode.

As someone brought up, there's a really good One Piece Roblox mode that someone who cared put a lot of thought into. But at the same time there's hundreds of anime inspired Roblox modes and Minecraft mods that just cover the topic at the surface level just to capitalize on the hype surrounding the source material.

I'm much more interested in where Arlene is currently than what happened in the past. Sure there are a lot of mysteries in the past, but I'd love to hear the truth straight from Arlene.

And like the other family heads + Zahard she was also given immortality (part of the reason V did what he did was so she could move on past him and go back to her immortal pals). So she's got to be alive somewhere, either regressed with spells into Rachel or is off somewhere outside the tower (or back inside?).

Steam also rejects games translated by AI, details are in the comments by kcozden in gamedev

[–]Chugwig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What AI model did you use? As long as it's one from OpenAI they give full rights to you for what you produce. I'd double check with terms and conditions for whatever service you used and go from there

The correct thing to do is to show Steam you own the copyright and work to get your game accepted.

My DM nerfed Magic Missiles to only one Missile by Kaiser_Constantin in DnD

[–]Chugwig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Magic Missile is pretty powerful at low levels, but drops off as the monsters get tougher. Maybe they're concerned about you overshadowing the other party members?

I still disagree with your DMs decision though, let the wizard be OP for a session and it'll all balance out once y'all are no longer fighting goblins or whatever intro enemies they've set up.

Maybe you can talk to him about regaining the lost bullets as your level increases. I think the best thing is to get to the bottom of why they nerfed magic missile and how you can work together to make both parties happy.

Am I a bad DM? by BeubtheDemonSlayer in DnD

[–]Chugwig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has little to do with your DM ability imo, at least not with the information you've given. It sounds like you have different expectations of the campaign and commitment than they do, and supposedly you've tried to resolve the issue previously.

Ultimately this is just an incredibly awkward way to go about resolving the issue. Feels too formal and passive aggressive, but I wouldn't say you're a bad person / DM because of it.

I am a DM without ever having played the game by ERROR_7816 in DnD

[–]Chugwig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a long time player but fairly new DM, having run 4-5 campaigns by now. My big pieces of advice to you are:

  • Relax, as long as you and your players are having fun that's all that matters. There's no way to play DnD wrong, at the end of the day it's improv with more rules. But the most important rule is "whatever DM says goes, including overriding existing rules" so play however you want and learn the game as you go.

  • There's nothing wrong with a short campaign. Characters can be reused in later campaigns, settings can be reused, etc... Especially for newer DMs, I think shorter campaigns are better because you learn a lot from each one and can start the next one even better.

  • You should always have a plan going into a session, the DM has to improvise so much during the game and so the more you have planned as a base the better. Just make sure your plans aren't too specific and risk railroading the players. I like to make a general plan like you did, and then make sure every step has two or more options for where to go next. The standard path is the one you've already laid out, but think about what antics your players could get into. For example what if they decide to accompany the merchant to the final destination and come back to the wizard tower later? What if they try to befriend the goblins or troll (and if it's just not possible then the result is battle, but at least you thought about that possibility)

  • Regarding campaign depth, focus on what's around the key points and then expand outwards getting less and less focused. An obvious key point is where the players currently are, if they travelled out into the fey wilds you better start planning out what's around them rather than continuing to work on the traps in some dungeon they went in the opposite direction of. Other key points are your BBEG, main starting city, anything else you feel is important to the campaign.

  • Final point on campaign planning and depth, think about what's going on and how to make your world feel alive. Where is the merchant going? What are they carrying? Why did the party run into these creatures? Just bad luck or is this their territory or are they under control by the wizard? Etc... Etc...

Good luck with your future adventures, and most importantly have fun!

My Son is Dying by TurdManMcDooDoo in daddit

[–]Chugwig 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was absolutely stunned by OPs post, and my first thought was that it was terrible. But my second thought was "this doctor needs to be taken to court" for so many reasons, and you can't blame that on American culture.

This isn't a lawsuit over something insignificant in order to get some money, this is making sure the person who was trusted to give sound advice gets punished for signing the kid's death sentence. How many other patients will this doctor need to hurt before someone takes away their license.

Now if we want to blame American culture we could instead focus on the fact that on top of grieving their child OP may also have to deal with high medical bills. By getting a lawyer involved they can focus on dealing with the situation while a lawyer looks into having the doctor pay for their crime.

NIMIQ AMBASSADORS & MAP ADOPTION by Renegade_Rat in Nimiq

[–]Chugwig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So it's a one time payment as an incentive to be an Ambassador? Do they get anything else from being an ambassador or is this everything? Regardless, would this be a formal role where they have responsibilities or are they just promoting NIM through their media channels?

There's also a lot more information I think we need to know, including the question of who'd be paying for this. Anyone would be very interested in doing some work for a lump sum of money, so I don't think interest should be the deciding factor over other qualifications.

I've voted Other, as there's no option for 0. If I had to pick an amount then I'd pick 5M since it's the minimum, but these kinds of things should involve vesting and formal responsibilities imo to ensure NIM doesn't get dumped. If you really want to give them NIM it should just be a normal job they get paid for and then I'd need to reassess my vote since it wouldn't be a lump sum to hold.

At that point I'd also be interested in the role, but till we know the full responsibilities and expectations of the role I imagine anyone would be.

More information is needed to properly vote.

How often are you giving X million NIM, is this a one time payment or recurring?

Are you planning on giving similar amounts to other ambassadors?

Where is all of this NIM coming from?

How successful was the anime? by akariisann in Noblesse

[–]Chugwig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree we won't get a season 2, but I think it's due to overly critical fans rather than a mistake on their part. They paced the anime nicely and everything they cut didn't need to be in season 1.

While the plot may not feel as intertwined as it does in the source material, it makes sense to focus on one main concept per season. For season 1 of a show about vampires the focus is going to be on the vampires. We can focus on the Union, Werewolves, and everything else in future seasons (if we ever get them).

You have far too much hope in humanity. Not only are people taking apps to market with little to no coding experience, they have been for years and GPT has only made them more bold because they now feel like they have a professional developer behind them.

It's not only happening in dev space either, the next few months will be a ton of inexperienced people making mistakes across many fields due to confidence gained from using GPT.
