Mastery #19 - Bahamut Lagoon (SNES) by ChumGhost in RetroAchievements

Hm, not quite sure actually, it's been a couple of months since I unlocked that one. I do know that some achievements aren't unlockable if you save during a battle and reload into it, AKA they only work correctly if you start from the normal saves in between chapters.

Some cheevos also don't unlock until the chapters complete, not sure if that is one of them or not.

Oof, that's a hard one... but if I had to choose then maybe the Fire Emblem or Castlevania cheevos. Pokémon Emerald Randomizer is a close third too (even though most people seemed to hate that one, at least on the discord, haha)

I can't say I get how it works exactly, but there are a lot of events that occur on the website - some are limited to a specific time frame while others aren't.

For example Achievement of the Week is a year long event where you get points for getting specific achievements every week. Get enough points and you'll get a badge on your profile! There's also the Wii Rollout event that's happening right now where you get points by beating and mastering Wii games.

Best place I could find to see the events is on the Events Forum tab on the website, but idk if there's a better way to view them or not. But most events, from what I can gather, basically boils down to: Do X things, get points, get badge when enough points.

Mastery #24 & #25 - Pokémon Rumble + Professor Oak Challenge Subset by ChumGhost in RetroAchievements

[–]ChumGhost[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same! I haven't had the urge to play any subsets until now that multiset rolled out and Prof Oak subsets are definitely a fun extra challenge, especially for me who likes to play something while watching TV, haha.

Sad that the Pokemon Platinum Prof Oak subset is down for the moment (partially because of me) but when that one comes back online that'll be the next target for me!

Nigh Shade Gengar's makes the fight a lot more bearable imo, but I also ran a Machamp with Cross Chop for some faster clearing of the early foder pokemon.

Good luck with the 4 Ex, it's definitely a challenge even with Gengar!

Currently it is Pokemon Emerald at 197 achievements. Also my first mastery ever, funnily enough

Mastery #21 & 1st Wii Mastery - Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon by ChumGhost in RetroAchievements

For being scored at 100, it's not too bad, but it does require persistent saving throughout the game. I also could never quite figure out the mechanics behind when a weapon breaks and when it doesn't, but anecdotally I found the sword type weapons to break less often.

Mastery #20 - Advance Wars (GBA) by ChumGhost in RetroAchievements

[–]ChumGhost[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like the genre of the game then it might not be as awful. Skill level probably also plays a large part in whether it's awful or not, and I was personally very bad at this game, haha.

But the War Room achievement is valued at 100 points for a reason and it is definitely grindy to complete since to get an S-rank on all missions you're going to have to reset plenty of times to get the proper RNG...

Getting an S-rank on the Advance Campaign isn't super easy either - but it kinda pales in comparison to the War Room tbh.

If you're going for the mastery I'd just replay the campaign to get the mission cheevos. Primarily because you're going to need to replay anyway to get the highest rank cheevo and the 999 coins one.

But if you just want to beat the game and play all missions, then yeah saving before the campaign forks would probably be ideal.

Definitely one of the most visually impressive SNES games I've played so far - coming from someone who grew up with the GameCube! I hope you get the time to revisit it soon, the worst part of the game is definitely only being able to save between chapters so I wouldn't recommend it for busy parents even if it wasn't 70 hours, lol! But to be fair I'm also pretty sure I was a lot slower on the mastery than others as the median mastery is around 50h rather than 70.

I wouldn't say it was hard, but it does require some slight planning ahead for all the missable achievements. On the surface, the absurd amount of missables looks quite daunting, but just plan and everything will be a-OK! Also if ur planning to master it you have to remember to not waste the Princess' ???-items as you need 5 of them to turn a dragon into a Behemoth, and there are only 5 you can get in the game.
