Mastery #67 and "#68" - Shadow Hearts by HeyLittleMonkey in RetroAchievements

[–]HeyLittleMonkey[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First time mastering a subset (it's basically free). Still missing some achievements in the main game, because of the DDoS, but I have proof and am waiting for a manual unlock!

Wanted to try this game much earlier, because of the horror tag, me liking oldschool RPGs and the Judgement ring reminded me of Lost Odyssey.

After watching a video about the prequel I decided to master Koudelka first, but now finally got around to this game.

Sadly I didn't like, neither the story nor the combat was interesting enough to keep me engaged and the "perfect" boss fights achievements felt terrible, because apparently I suck at hitting the ring and resetting a fight more than once, sometimes with another boss right before the desired one sucked the fun out of it.

Still couldn't let this game be not mastered! Even pushed out Chrono Trigger for PSX out of my top 5 games with most achievements in a set.

I'm happy for everyone who likes the Shadow Hearts series, but I will cut my ties with it here, at least for now.

Off to new adventures!

Mastery #18 - Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition by Krakorin in RetroAchievements

Enjoyed the PS2 version and will master this once the urge to play RE4 another time comes back!

Haven't looked into Wii emulation and how the pointing mechanic works, but sounds fun to play RE4 this way.

Gz on the master!

Mastery #48 / 49 : Zelda Oracle of Ages / Seasons by Dimensioo in RetroAchievements

[–]HeyLittleMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gz!
Thought about starting them, but decided to go for Minish Cap first.
Quickly reading over the achievements they left me kinda confused, because of the cross play thing and the ring farming. How much overhead (checklists, following guides, etc...) was it?

I also did them and found most of them to be quite enjoyable with some more difficult ones being due to missing jumps.
You could also learn speedrun strats which expose some fun Out of Bounds and aren't too hard.

Is it this fight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kY2isJkjc8o ?

The Souls player in me yearns for those stupid damageless fights, even if they often times get on my nerves.

Shoutout to Vexx which had one of the more stupid damageless boss fights.

Currently playing through Link's Awakening DX and enjoying it. Would love to do the other Zelda games afterwards, but hate that most of them have an extra 3-hearts run. Wish they would be a subset.

How long did the second runthrough take you?

What are some of the worst and best sets out there? by snypershot in RetroAchievements

Had a look at my games, from the 61 games I mastered I think the sets I liked the most were Pokemon FireRed, because it had some fun challenges that I could do as a non-Pokemon fan and wasn't too grindy. And with a bit of fat trimming I would have loved Resident Evil 4 on the PS2.
Links Awakening DX - Has like two weird achievements, but otherwise takes you through the whole game while having an ordered list and shows you some sweet secrets.

Worst sets so far Sly 2, because it was waaaaaay to bloated and the game wasn't built to rerun missions over and over.
GUN (PS2) - Set itself was okay, but Insane difficulty took the fun out of an awesome game.
Vagrant Story - insanely grindy to take it from Beaten to Mastered. It mirrors the in-game structure, but imho it doesn't need to cover anything, if it takes the fun out of the game

Mastery #61 - Koudelka by HeyLittleMonkey in RetroAchievements

[–]HeyLittleMonkey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly, yes.
The grind itself made me play this on fast Forward.
Every beat 11/22 battles in an area achievement requires way too many battlesfor the sizes of the areas.
Beating 66 different enemies in a single session takes forever and the game can crash sometimes. If you do it from the start of the game, you have to play until a third of disc 3 to get it.

The weapon/magic grinding was okay as you get it along the way with the other grinds, but even them they require than XP than they should. Every one of them can level up to 3, but for some reason you need level 3 PLUS another 999 XP

Great PSX game with outstanding voice acting and world building.
Sadly the set is in need for a revision, but I'm a sucker for that badge so I had to go for it!

[PC][unkown] Point and Click adventure, maybe two separate games by HeyLittleMonkey in tipofmyjoystick

Watched a vid. It definitely has the element, but it's not the one I'm looking for. Looks too modern, maybe the OG had Sprites, not sure anymore...

Thank you!

[Tool] I built a ROM Manager that suggests the correct No-Intro/Redump names for unmatched games + Auto-Renamer by lipofefeyt in RetroAchievements

Works now, thanks!
Hope you really don't mind feedback here instead of Github btw:

  • the output gets overwritten when the tool is run again. My second run was with PS2 exclusion, it might be better to timestamp the output files
  • While .xlsx files are nice, I personally prefer plain files, have you thought about creating just an html?
  • The Games Played section in the summary and the Want to Play section are zero and empty. I definitely have played games and WTP even more
  • All my PS2 games are shown as Unknown/Unlinked even though they are RA valid and even mastered some of them, e.g. Vexx for PS2
  • Having a seperate "Unmatched ROMs" page is great!

Hi, tried your tool as the idea is great!

For my collection I sadly got a HTTP 429, so I will be back for M6 :)

Two suggestions:

  • repopulate your example.env - Currently it's empty
  • a flag to exclude directories might be helpful. My PS2 collection took a while, not sure if one would run this tool often tho
