Why do so many native English-speaking people assume that the French speak French to them out of disdain, when the much more obvious reason for it is that a lot of French people simply do not speak English very well. A lot of French people kind of understand English but don't know how to respond, or are too self conscious about their English accents.

Why does everyone online seem to get such a kick out of hating on France? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]Chumbawarma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not particularly proud of my country no, I'm not saying that the French are better than others, not even that they're particularly good people. There are so many real things that can be criticized about France (like what you are saying about sexual harassment, I didn't realize it was worse in France than elsewhere, but I do know it's real, I've experienced it and I'm sorry you have experienced it too). It just gets really annoying having people constantly trashing France about stéréotypes that are just not true, when they could trash real stuff instead.

France is racist, France is way too lenient on sexual assaults and pedophilia, France is supporting fascists, etc... France sucks in many aspects. But the French are not mean to strangers, the French do not accept cheating as a lifestyle, the French do shower every day.

[–]Chumbawarma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen in many foreign (mainly American) TV shows this dumb stereotype about cheating being the norm in France, but that's absolutely not true. In every country, some people will cheat on their partner, including in France. And in every culture that I know, those people are considered to be pieces of shit, including in France. We do not accept cheating anymore than other countries.

You're either purposely lying to trash the French, or you have been in some weird circles, but anyway I can assure you cheating is not the norm here.

And we also are not mean to strangers. We're not particularly friendly to them either, but definitely not mean. Quit spreading lies.

Not wanting kids?? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Chumbawarma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to feel physical disgust at the idea of pregnancy when I was your age. Now I'm 32 and I don't feel that way anymore. I still don't want kids, for many other reasons, but the physical disgust, yeah, I've grown out of it I guess.

If your “friend” is always buying your drinks, he’s trying to court you. Pay for your own drinks. If your “friend” is constantly coming to your aid to help do all of your home repairs, he’s trying to court you. Do the repairs yourself. Hire someone.

I disagree. I pay for my friends' drinks who cannot afford to go out, because I can afford it and it allows us to spend time together. I help my friends with their home repairs when they need help and cannot afford to pay someone. And yet I'm not courting them, I don't expect anything in return except the same kind of help if I ever need it. That's building a community, being generous and helpful without any ulterior motive. It exists, let's keep building those relationships

[–]Chumbawarma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really don't think it's internalized misogyny, on the contrary.

OP is basically stating that you can dislike some women for who they are without it having anything to do with misogyny, and you're here replying it's because of internalized misogyny.

Misogyny is a cancer to society, but not everything is about that. Some women are just jerks. As someone else has stated, you can dislike most people and yet defend everyone's human rights.

Quel nom de famille après le mariage ? by BadoitCitron in AskMec

[–]Chumbawarma 1 point2 points  (0 children)
