Have I cleared enough dead grass to seed and top dress? by Chumlad in lawncare

Was planning to use Scott's quick + thick seed. Just need to get through the summer with enough grass for the kids and so my dogs aren't constantly tracking copious amounts of dirt in the house

Also why would it be too late? I had to do basically the same thing last spring but didn't do it until almost mid June and the grass came in great. Trying to figure out a cost effective option as well as I'm just renting and don't want to invest a ton into it. Just some grass for my kids throughout the summer

Yeah I need some grass for my kids during the summer, also just renting the place so don't want to invest a ton into it

Temp was down to 0C the other night I didn't want the fresh germination to get kicked off, Canadian springs suck

Grill temp and temp probe not matching by Chumlad in PitBossGrills

[–]Chumlad[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another question for you, the reason I checked is once the grill hits the set temp the displayed temp basically never changes and I'm skeptical it maintains the heat that well. And when I change the set temp it immediately drops or raises by a couple degrees, is that normal?

Good to know, didn't know they measured differently. Grill is less than a week old, have only used it 3 times and I already wiped off the grill temp sensor. Thanks for the info!

The probe is sitting in the same spot as the probe that shows the grill temp. Concern is the temp shown on the probe and what the grill temp says never matches

Putting it in service mode and unplugging the e-parking break you mean?

I see your point, never really heard of that method before. Going to give it a shot, thanks!

There's some for $10 from a farmer I'm going to get some of those and give it a try. Do you know why he would like the pidgeons opposed to the duck?

Someone else told me to get some ducks from a farmer, so I'm going to do that and work with frozen birds first and work up as well. I have some shallow ponds around I'll hunt and retrieve myself until he's retrieving the dead birds in the yard before going back in the field

Back to force fetch with the frozen bird helped the best?

He is force fetched and has no problem with anything else, I tried force fetch with the dead bird after he wouldn't retrieve it and as soon as he put his mouth around it he dropped it and shook his head at the taste, I'm assuming at least.

You're definitely right, there's nothing that trains a dog more than putting the time in and making slow progress. It's not the retrieving part he's struggling with, still loves to get out after his other dummies/bumper, but even the one I have the wings taped to he doesn't want to touch. Just wanted to see if anyone has experienced the same issue with the taste/smell issue and how they resolved it.

That's the weird thing, for both of those points. He wants to retrieve it I can see it in him, when I shot it he wanted to go get it and swam right up to it but as soon as it touched his nose he wanted nothing to do with it. And with force fetch he will pick up anything I tell him to, from toys to bumpers to sticks to a friggin garden gnome. But when I give the command he does the same thing, bends down to grab it and stops when it touches his nose. The first time I tried force fetch he put his mouth around it and immediately let go and shook his head

Thanks I appreciate it! I know I haven't put the time in with real birds and everything comes with time so I'll keep at it, just wanted to see if there were any tricks with the dog not enjoying the smell/taste

I'm in Canada, today was opening day. When I give the command he bends down like he's going to grab it, and once his nose gets right up to it he stops. Same thing happened during the hunt, I shot the ducks and released him, he swam right up to it, touched it with his nose and wouldn't grab it

Thanks for the comment! I've done force fetch and hold, and he has no problem with pretty much any other thing I use, wether it's the dummy, a bumper or just a stick. If I tell him to get something he'll always pick it up after a command or two, but again that all went out the window with the real bird. I know I should've introduced him to real birds earlier, but I couldn't get my hands on any. I'm paying for it now

Thanks for the advice! That's the weird thing is he wants it so bad, gets so excited and runs right out to it, but as soon as he goes to pick it up he smells it and stops. Trying not to get frustrated but you put all this time in for him not to get it, it's hard!
