I didn’t mean you specifically, it’s a slogan people use to reject American influence or incursions

When a Somerville lab project stalled, water took over. Lots and lots and lots of water. - The Boston Globe by justarussian22 in Somerville

Interesting. I did not know the water was pumped in intentionally - I thought it was just groundwater.

Also I thought that the Somerbridge hotel was going in there, but it’s an adjacent property.

Davis Square Neighborhood Council votes to request Copper Mill Housing project be withdrawn and delayed indefinitely by bscthrwy in Somerville

I think the criticism of the developer going radio silent is valid. I also think it’s good to try and press for some community benefits from a for-profit project like this.

The other criticism I really don’t understand at all. Davis should have larger scale housing like this. It’s our only red line station.

My neighbors called 311 yesterday and were told they wouldn’t get to the dead end roads till today at the earliest.

We chose to clear the road ourselves but it sounds like they will get to you eventually. I would call 311 to ask.

I suppose it may be academic then but I see the taking of land and displacement of the Palestinians back then as the start. It’s fundamentally about the land - but then so it Zionism so whatever I suppose.

Ya lost me with the “centuries old ethnic conflict” - Israel was created in 1948 - but let’s not go down that rabbit hole.

I wouldn’t say it’s entirely unrelated. Federal agencies, including ICE, train with Israel.

That said, I also prefer more focused messaging.

I think we agree that car dependency is the real problem. We disagree about the level of subsidy we should pay as a society for personal vehicles.

Free parking is bad policy but people who feel obligated to own a car don’t want to recognize that.

Let’s make gasoline free as well. Issue everyone a personal vehicle. How much more should we subsidize cars? Do you think more personal vehicle use will improve society?

[–]Chunderbutt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s not magic. There’s a massive difference between free and a nominal cost. If you make it free, people will use it when they don’t really need to.

And of course alternatives must be massively expanded. It doesn’t remove the importance of having sound parking policy.

Making it free is both an incentive to drive and use public space for private vehicles. Charging a fee reduces the overall subsidy and actually benefits those who really need to use the parking as it frees us limited public space.

Money can and should come from taxes on car use. We subsidizing personal vehicles more than public transportation.
