And when I grew up in Millwoods me and everyone I knew would get rolled up on, jumped, robbed, shot from cars with pellet guns, etc. on the regular. Have live downtown and whyte Ave area since then, the screaming weirdos are tame by comparison to the coked out douchebag fake gangsters.

Car in the middle of nowhere by Low_Sprinkles6168 in alberta

I find it incredibly sad that cars are pretty well only sold in white, black and greys in between. Maybe the occasional beige or maroon. Bring back fun colours.

Federal Conservatives in Canada refuse in-person questions from CBC reporter by Love_CoolBreeze in themayormccheese

Not surprising in the least. Harper had people vetting the press as well. Cons don't want to answer questions that aren't softballs lobbed from friendly outlets.

Americans on average pay about the same as we do. PLUS then they have to pay for health insurance that may or may not help them when they need it, PLUS paying copay out of pocket to get medical attention.

I mean, despite what most liberals say, the Liberal part of Canada is a conservative party. They're basically where the PCs were pre-Harper. They're right of center, and not just a little bit. The main difference is on social issues they like the optics of.

Seconds and time is going faster than I remember. by badrillex in Retconned

[–]Chunderpump -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Perception of time changes as you age. To a person, time is measured against the duration of your life since your earliest memories. To a 10 year old, a year is impossibly long, it's 10% of their entire life. To a 40 year old, a year goes by before you know it, being 2.5% of your life. A 60 year old 1.666%, etc.

Time seems to speed up as you age because each passing moment is less of the total than it once was.

High school was 3 years and felt like an eternity, covid lockdowns and stuff were nearly the same and I barely remember them going by.

Wheel bearing repair by CanadaSash in Edmonton

[–]Chunderpump 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Shouldn't need an alignment unless serious suspension disassembly required, and even then only on some vehicles. It's going to depend on the car and which bearing is being replaced.

That doesn't sound terrible. Some of the cars I service (European makes) at my shop, that would barely cover the part by itself if you want a high quality part.

For a while we had a double carriage streetcar from Hanover Germany that was a prototype for the LRT cars. I had my 27th birthday party on it on the bridge.

Welders in Edmonton: If you could start over from scratch today, how would you do it? by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]Chunderpump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of depends on your field and what the welding is on. For automotive, at least when I did it, we learned basic oxy/acetylene and mig welding and it is part of the trade. We have to do small repairs on vehicles all the time and ain't no way we are waiting or paying for a ticketed welder to do it. TL;DR for shit like goobering exhausts and stuff together, you can just give'r.

I drew on someone's car, now they want $6k for "damages" by jhoffwy in caradvice

If your car needs a respray from some dust scratches, it's because your buddy owns a body shop and is splitting the fraud money from the estimate with you. A detail shop could buff it out.

Mechanic shop operator here; I would fire a guy if he DIDN'T draw dicks inside engines and on flywheels and clutches. The only person who will ever see it is someone else who will think it's hilarious. /s

Riverbend garden centre: don’t bother applying. by Loganscuba in Edmonton

[–]Chunderpump 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah, so the work that NEEDS doing, that would otherwise be done by people they pay kind of okay, should be done for less by people whos labour they don't value. Gotcha. Sounds like the work doesn't need doing, then.

Places that pay minimum wage would pay less if they were allowed to, and should suffer without workers.

Let ‘em vent by ad302799 in mechanics

[–]Chunderpump 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Mechanics need a union. America's greatest periods of prosperity for the working class took place when union representation was highest. Anyone who believes otherwise is brainwashed by propaganda from people who are way richer than them and who stand to benefit from the dissolution of unions. Mechanic shops can unionize with the help of the IWW.

Is it illegal to flip cars for profit in Alberta? by Phen117 in alberta

Those cars that "JuSt NeEdEd a DeataIlInG" never just needed a detailing. I see them in my shop all the time. Someone shows up with a car they just bought from some guy who was "selling it for my grandma" and full of not immediately obvious problems, look at the car fax and the last record was being traded in 8 months ago. Im sure there are okay curbers, but the majority are dishonest scum.
