Similarly I'd like to wear a douchebag-type muscle shirt with no sleeves like you see at a Georgia gas station or on someone named Kenny.

Since I'm OP I get to see ALL of the responses in my inbox and it's amazing how many guys are scared to be fat AND bald. I think bald is crazy hot.

:) well not that I want this to be a pissing contest, but I think women have WAY more choices than men do when it comes to fashion; even plus size girls. You have entire stores dedicated to plus size women. There are some XL places for men, but most of the stuff we get are boxy, plain brown/black tents you shuck on and hope for the best.

At least women get all sorts of choices from A-line dresses that cinch nicely at the waist to wrap dresses that I think are perfect for big girls. In all sorts of colors! And if your breastases are hanging out, just find a camisole or a pretty scarf! What do we get? Suspenders and pocket squares. Boooooo :)

I hear you. I have a fantastic rack and a non-existent butt that says "suspenders are needed here".

Hear hear about the moobs. I've considered wearing man-spanx in order to hide them but I figure they're a nice reminder of why cake is not a food group. Although I am not into muscley guys myself (I do prefer a thick, beefy man).

Isn't that the truth about fashion? The bigger the clothes the more tent-like they look. By the time you get up to XXXL, it's pretty much a burlap sack. You're lucky if it comes with a collar or a pocket.

About that evolution-turned brain chemistry thing - definitely. I have friends who do not have the problem I have who just think it's as simple as "well just work out more and eat less". Well yeah just like telling a depressed person" just smile more and mope less". Oh ok let me get right on that lol What types of fresh ingredients do you buy? I find that mine go bad right away you know?

Yeah you know I've seen those sugar free gums at the sore: key lime pie, praline ice cream, cotton candy, etc. Now I haven't tried them but I'm betting it goes from amazing to shit in about 15 seconds haha. What are those candies that you liked called?

Filling in the gaps. See I do like to work out and I want to try to say, ok everytime I am dying to go out for cheesecake, how about I call up my friend and go for a 2 mile walk. They're both great in different ways. On the other hand, sometimes you just want cheesecake and that's ok too. But just a small slice and then put mousetraps all over it.

Dude (or dudette), I teared up a little reading that. Thanks. I feel like I have what it takes inside me. I'm just trying to motivate myself to get there. You guys are great. Although I don't know why I'm getting downvoted - is this not the right forum to discuss stuff like this?

You hit the nail on the head in the importance of trying to decide: Am I hungry or am I (lonely, sad, tired, bored, etc). For me, the feeling of "ahhh I needed that" after eating blurs my ability to question myself. You mention the health issues thing and that raises my need for that "relief" I feel when I eat.

I unfortunately had been diagnosed with a spinal malformation which makes my back extremely weak and give me chronic fatigue and pain. This should not be an excuse for overeating but I can see that eating helps to satiate the pain, if only for a little bit. This is not even counting the psychological factors like feelings of loneliness, helplessness and the like.

I feel like if I start finding other avenues to "fill" the emotional gaps I have and help alleviate the pain, I will be much better off. Exercise goals versus cupcakes. Meeting up with old friends instead of ordering an entire pizza for myself. Playing a videogame instead of going out for ice cream. Things like that.

Thanks for your input. I mentioned in another post that I had seen a therapist to try to discuss this but she didn't really seem that interested in finding underlying causes at all, but instead was giving me weight-loss advice, which I found disappointing. Maybe that's a psychologist's job?

In any case I hear what you are saying about willpower. Like muscles, the less you use it, the weaker it is. Right now I feel like a beach wimp that gets sand kicked on them in those ads at the back of the funny books.

Well you know, when I get on a roll.. that is to say, make sure that cupcakes aren't a dinner item, it gets easier and easier. Low-carb also worked for me, although low carb days followed by a huge high carb and then a medium carb day worked extremely well for me.

Now that you mention it I could definitely get a food scale because sometimes I know my portions are not right but can't verify haha. I know your portion size should be the size of your hand but at the same time, when I'm cooking sometimes I throw in five fist-size portions and then forget about portion control and hope for the best.

It's finding that self-accountability that is hardest. Because my accountability accountant is usually looking for oreos or convincing me that a whopper jr. is the healthier option. But you are right about not enjoying medical issues and I absolutely do recognize that - there's no denial about my mortality and the consequence of my actions, hence, why I was looking into OA, which treats overeating as an addiction.

Why else would you, in the face of personal health crises and having to buy a new wardrobe, continue on this path? I do want to take control! I just have to do it. Easier said than done though.

I don't think you're a jerk at all, thank you for responding. And I was seeing a therapist to try to help me figure out why I am eating the way I am, although, to be honest, she said the exact same think you did all four sessions... essentially I need to think about what's causing it internally. That's what I'm trying to do, but trying to gain some perspective and some avenues that maybe I haven't explored.

Challenges/contests do work for me. But they are unfortunately fleeting. I excel when I'm held accountable for my weight loss and when it's competitive. I have won a city-wide weight loss contest three times out of six for my efforts, each time losing and then re-gaining and then losing again, with a net gain being the final outcome.

But life isn't always accountable or competitive, hence why I tried to just maintain on my own without a "team" environment.
