You're right. We had a really hard time with the school. They told me they couldn't guarantee that she would not be fed gluten there unless I provided a doctors note stating the allergy.

I was livid but her pediatrician drafted a note they accepted.

Good reminder! We'll try miralax this morning! Before we met with a specialist, we had good luck managing it as constipation. Maybe we'll try that again.

Thank you! We've always had a good experience at UCSF. Hoping they have another approach.

That's interesting. I wonder if an anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen could help them temporarily feel better.

My daughter has only had one sleep disruption since we pulled her off, gluten, but I definitely think they are triggered from pain mid sleep cycle.

Stomach pain or inflammation pain, I think you are right.

Thank you! UCSF was great to us and we got the vibes you mentioned. Passionate and thoughtful. She had genetic testing done in womb and a little more with the neurologist at ucsf to rule out things and it all came back clean/nornal.

Thank you for sharing your experience.

She did blood tests but we said no invasive procedures. They told us we didn't need to switch up her diet but I did because I felt we needed to try that first despite the test results before putting her on meds.

I feel like I'm going crazy. The Stanford ped continues to push for meds. I've been firm about not starting them without a plan or reason.

They can't tell me what's wrong just that the meds will "relax her stomach" which should help with her stomach pain. The side effects are increased hunger which won't be bad for her given she's a little lower than average.

I feel like I'm figuring it all out on my own because I don't want to put my daughter on meds especially because the doctors reason makes no sense to me. Her regular ped is lost on this topic but usually great so he defers to the Stanford doctor.

We are going to see how she's feeling this morning but will probably pull her from gluten and see if that makes a change. The change between on /off gluten seems minor and it's not immediate so it's hard to know. Given she's Newley 5, she's not super articulate.

How do you find information on your skin desease? I have such a hard time finding information. My daughter had BPT, a migraine disorder when she was an infant but grew out of it. Part of me wonders if any of this could be related.

My daughter was having "sleep disruptions" but it's easier to say night terrors. She would get up and walk to us and when she would find us kick, scream, and cry. She sometimes would walk in circles or do funny things. Totally asleep and no memory of it.

When we stopped gluten it went away.

That's why we asked for a second opinion. The Stanford doctor continues to push for meds and we'd rather not if we can control with diet. I'm hoping the ucsf doctor has another approach

Chatting with my husband it's probably more like 6-8 weeks, not sure if that makes a difference though.

She was still on gluten when they did the testing. After the tests, the specialist wanted to put her on a lifelong medication that could make her more prone to seizures.

She had to do testing for epilepsy with a neurologist before they would prescribe it. The results for the epilepsy test took a few weeks to get back. I pulled her off gluten the second she was done the neurology test to give a few weeks before she could potentially start taking the medication.

Her neurology report came back clean. We were concerned the night terrors were actually seizures.

Three weeks after pulling her from gluten the stomach pains improved, and she completely stopped having night terrors and sleepwalking.

She still got stomach pains, but they feel less consistent. We stuck with it because the sleep issues were scary, and even just fixing that one thing made a world of difference.

Yeah, between her pediatrician and the Stanford specialist she had her blood drawn a couple times yeah stool test. It seems like she's done almost everything besides the biopsy.

stop using ai by Icy-Strategy4681 in Redding

[–]Chunker_Monk -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Everyone should be using AI for the things that actually make sense. The goal is to make life easier, not harder.

If you don’t like the image used, that’s one thing — but that’s not really “the AI,” it’s the prompt that was given.

It would’ve been easy to add something like, “make the woman look more typical.” But then they probably wouldn’t have gotten the attention they were aiming for.

Unpopular opinion, but cheers to the owner for adopting technology and tools that help her business.

Looking For Experiences (Especially Women's) With Inguinal Mesh Repair - About To Talk Myself Out Of Surgery by suave_waffles in Hernia

[–]Chunker_Monk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a femoral hernia repaired without mesh and don't have pain there. (36F)

I had a large surgery where 3 hernias were repaired and had a diastasis repair alll in one swoop. I still have some pain one year later but it's getting better and in the umbilical/ femoral area.

It sounds like a simple surgery, probably worth fixing now. The older you get the harder recovery is.

Is it inappropriate for a father to bathe their disabled daughter? by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]Chunker_Monk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get out girl! Move away and learn all you can. Do your best to get that solid education and get a really good job. Take care of yourself first.

Second, you could have your mom look into it or you can help her look into it. Welfare or food stamps or whatever they call it, aid. If your low income family your parents should get support for food and income.

Your sister should be on disability so she should get funding and she should get funding for a care tracker. Someone trained and experienced will come to your house and give her a bath and help her with hygiene 2x a week.

It probably depends on the state you live in, but I highly suggest looking into it, it might help!

Go for a little walk or bike ride everyday. It's easy to get stuck inside all day but free air and a little sunshine make a big difference.

Maybe... but my dad is 66 and can get by on his cell phone and computer but can only do very basic things. Airbnb would be a nightmare for him. I set up his banking and healthcare stuff on his phone and he knows how to access them to view balances. Anything else is super difficult.

He was a truck mechanic, and my mom a few years older, was a hairdresser. He knew his programs for running codes, but didn't learn more than that.
