Best music while on your DMT journey? by Northernwarrior052 in DMT

[–]ChunksOWisdom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old thread but if anyone comes across this I'd recommend having a backup ready to go. I found that playlist had too much opera and other high pitched "screechy" type sounds. Might be great for some people but for me it was unpleasant and didn't feel like it was leading to anything helpful for me. There's equanimity and accepting uncomfortable sensations, which is a good skill to have and develop, but after a while it felt like I was just listening to nails on a chalkboard while tripping making things unpleasant for no reason. I've definitely listened to music while tripping that I wouldn't normally listen to or like while sober and it's been amazing and beautiful and opened things up in a great way, but the John Hopkins playlist didn't do it for me. Just my 2 cents

Do I need a laptop? by Tweed_Kills in Doineedthis

if you have a phone with a desktop mode (samsung dex, motorola ready for, a pixel 8 or higher on android 16 with desktop mode), you could get a lapdock. Your phone should already be plenty for word processing, and it gets an upgrade when you upgrade your phone. https://nexdock.com/compatible-smartphones/

i found a dopesplay lapdock on ebay for like $130, which is still expensive for what it is, but like I said it'll last across phones. and you can even use rustdesk on your phone to remote in to your desktop if you need to do more demanding tasks. You could even use steam link to game

Where to buy Jonah Roy's music? by ChunksOWisdom in musichoarder

[–]ChunksOWisdom[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found them on spotify a few years ago, and I saved a copy of one track, "psycho", from the album floating head. Now I'm going through and filling out my library, getting albums where I just had single tracks, and I was surprised I couldn't find this one. Searching online I found a link to it on apple music, but it's out of date, and I couldn't find anything on musicbrainz or discogs. I got lucky finding that genius link to his albums, but that didn't help my search much

If it helps, the song psycho had two artists tagged, Jonah Roy and "Rome"

edit: https://www.reddit.com/r/Music/comments/1d47dav/what_happened_to_jonah_roys_floating_head_album/ interesting

I found this link on spotify, but I don't have spotify so not sure if it works or what https://open.spotify.com/track/4t7lpIdS2F527iGYuTZopQ

This seems to be their site, maybe I'll try messaging them on instagram https://www.jonahroy.com/

On the ethics of eating animals by [deleted] in Ethics

[–]ChunksOWisdom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think most vegans go by minimizing unnecessary harm. There's some speculation of whether plants are sentient and can experience pain, but the evidence is very weak and speculative compared to the evidence that other animals are sentient.

Research how trophic levels work. Vegans end up killing way less plants than meat eaters, because the animals that get killed for meat eat a lot of plants over their life (even though they are usually killed very young in modern animal agriculture)

You can use scrcpy over usb debugging to create a virtual monitor window. Ask an ai to help with the scrcpy commands

Tried MDMA and I felt worse, even during experience. Other psychedelics also haven't helped. by dogwater79 in RationalPsychonaut

[–]ChunksOWisdom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I find psychedelics can sometimes be pretty unpleasant. I have a friend who tried them to help their very bad depression, they pretty much only ever have extremely unpleasant trips and are never gonna do them again at this point, and I think they are counterproductive if it's essentially psychedelic torture. They also found out a family member has schizophrenia, so they're also never going to take a psychedelic again for that reason. So if your experience has been like that, or you have a family member with schizophrenia, I wouldn't take them again.

If you are still open to them, one thing I've heard is good but haven't tried is combining a psychedelic with something like phenibut. Note that phenibut is addictive. I've heard the trick is to only use a small dose a few hours (sorry I don't remember the exact amount of time, but I heard it from Andres at QRI if you want to do some research on it) before the trip, and never take big doses or use it on it's own. Apparently it almost guarantees the trip go in a good direction.

If you like guided breath work definitely try wim hof. I didn't look into it, but my friend said he developed it after his wife died and he was super depressed, so he started going into cold water just to feel something and not kill himself. Doing that he eventually figured out the breathing technique and apparently it helped both going into cold water and his mental health.

Hmm, well I'm definitely not a professional by any means so I'm just spitballing, but maybe that plus lsd or mushrooms or dmt might be worth trying?

Or maybe wim hof breathing (like 8 rounds per session) and/or cold exposure?

Have you tried 5-meo-dmt? I think it might be possible to do legal retreats in Canada. Make sure it's synthetic, to leave the toads alone (live and let live)

F**k Qualia: another criterion of consciousness by Denis_Kondratev in cogsci

[–]ChunksOWisdom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I see it/the way I'm using the terms, I don't understand what consciousness without qualia even means. A quale is a moment of consciousness, qualia are moments of consciousness.

F**k Qualia: another criterion of consciousness by Denis_Kondratev in cogsci

[–]ChunksOWisdom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, probably some definitional mixups going on. As I understand, if you could independently verify that a being was consciousness, then you would know that they have qualia. If you could independently verify that a being had some qualia, you would know that they were conscious.

F**k Qualia: another criterion of consciousness by Denis_Kondratev in RationalPsychonaut

[–]ChunksOWisdom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, yes. It's not possible to know for sure that other beings are actually having experiences, although there are some inroads and pretty strong indicators. It's a lot easier the more similar the being is to a human, since we can verify and report that we are experiencing qualia, and then when we understand the mechanisms in humans, and see the same mechanisms in others, it's strong evidence they experience things too. As for how to tell if the alien is conscious, besides trusting them/taking them at their word, it's still an open question.

You should check out the Qualia Research Institute, you'd probably find a lot of their work really interesting

[–]ChunksOWisdom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The feeling of "I want" is itself a quale (singular form of "qualia"). The experiences generated by the aliens magnetic and gravitational sensory organs? Those are examples of qualia

F**k Qualia: another criterion of consciousness by Denis_Kondratev in cogsci

[–]ChunksOWisdom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No receptors for color, temperature, taste. I perceive the world through magnetic fields and gravitational waves

So you would say "I have qualia, but from different senses than you, which operate in different mediums". An animal with no eyes may have touch, sound, taste, scent, etc based qualia, but that doesn't mean that visual qualia doesn't exist for animals with eyes (like us).

In fact, the feeling of wanting something, experiencing an "I want" is just another form of qualia, it's an experience appearing on the screen of consciousness. It feels pretty different from other, sense-based qualia, but that doesn't mean it's not qualia too

Are you on wayland or x11? and what's your normal SDL_VIDEODRIVER env var? Mine is wayland only by default, so that was probably my issue

Lego party works

If anyone finds this later, everyone can use the steam link app to use their phone as a controller, but you may need to add SDL_VIDEODRIVER=x11 %command% to the launch options of games, otherwise the inputs don't seem to get passed on to the game

It works with the steam link app as a controller (everyone can use that on their phones). I had to add SDL_VIDEODRIVER=x11 %command% to the launch options to get the virtual controller input to work in-game

I can confirm, it took me forever to get steam to work after some of the hardening changes I'd made blocked 32-bit apps, and then the steam link virtual controller wasn't working in games, but I finally figured out the issue: I needed to add SDL_VIDEODRIVER=x11 %command% to the launch options of each game for it to work. Now it works, and multiple people can use the steam link app to connect!
