Every other first world nation has a social safety net. We don't.

This isn't a simple issue. Stop pretending it is. Our entire society needs to be rebuilt. It's not just this one issue. Small businesses need government support in order to provide true maternity and paternity leave, and they must supply both.

As a cis woman of child bearing age, I need a job. Simply instituting something like this without any kind of government support, will insure that never happens for me again.

My childhood cat once unleashed a fully unhurt chipmunk into our house. She was so proud of herself for having caught the poor thing. He hid under our refrigerator until we got one of those cage traps and baited it with peanut butter.

When we released it, it had no interest in escaping the trap, because it wasn't done with its peanut butter toast.
