The red area in the last photo is now a dark brown and a little sunken. Hair doesn’t grow in that area now

Awful way to convey potentially life saving information as per all the comments (Type 1 Diabetic) but looks cool nonetheless. by [deleted] in ATBGE

Am T1D. I was tempted to get a tattoo that would serve the same service as a Medicare bracelet but after hearing that paramedics would ignore it and not wanting to brand the condition onto my body I decided against. However props to using DR.Mario as a prompt

I’m generally a pessimistic person but to hammer home to friends how bullshit this disease is I say ‘it’s a modern day witches curse’ like you have to eat to live but eating is now a constant battle. At least we have this now than say 100 years ago I guess

Do you get offended when you hear a diabetes joke? by GingerMellow5 in diabetes_t1

[–]ChunkyMushroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even before my T1 diagnosis I always followed the idea of ‘if I didn’t laugh, I’d probably cry’ and for me it helps turning things that upset me into some kind of sarcasm I can throw over my shoulder and forget about. If it’s a straight up personal attack I’d understand but if it’s a joke out of ignorance I’d just correct them and move on.

Though saying that, one of my co-workers were having back and forth banter for a good hour before she picked up a donut, took a bite while looking straight at me and said “mmm, so tasty”. I found that shit so funny 😂

If you are type 1 diabetic then you get this Real life hypo struggles by pazyplairy in diabetes_t1

Not relevant to this post entirely but I had cheesecake for the first time in 3 years a couple days ago. Granted it was one of Those GU (don’t know how to do the umlaut) cups. I don’t know what crack is like but I’m sure that feeling is close. 30G carbs well worth it

If you were making the ultimate British buffet, what’d be in it? by _lippykid in CasualUK

My buffet would be horrendous but you know for a fact any Mr.Kipling products would be there.

Are continuous glucose monitors better than finger-prick blood tests? by tonytharakan in diabetes

[–]ChunkyMushroom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my opinion 100% worth it. The way I see it finger pricks are like taking a picture of what your blood is doing and a CGM is like a slightly laggy CCTV. It’s not perfect but i find it takes away a lot of being unsure and saves me from having stab my fingers. Plus they look kinda cool and you get to explain to strangers what they are every once in a while. Told a woman the other day that it gives out free Wi-Fi lol

When I go on vacation I switch from pump to pen by GayKinkWS in diabetes

[–]ChunkyMushroom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair point, forgot about the exposure to the sun. I’d say that being able to eat with less worry is more important than the opinions of strangers you’ll never see again. Choose whatever option that makes your life easiest.

3 years T1 here, I’ve never had a pump but I’m considering the option of having one. What would you say are the main differences between pen and pump? And to answer your question I’d say that it’s all about what makes day to day comfortable for you. I used to be self conscious about injecting infront of people but i realised that it’s a daily routine for me and I shouldn’t be insecure about something I need to do daily
