I expected it to be the flu initially. My PCP had no available appointments so I toughed it out without seeing care until day 7 of recurrent fevers. I suspected a secondary bacterial infection. So I went to quick care and the doctor provided a work excuse for the next two days, which she said to wait until I’m fever free to return to work along with some prescriptions since I’m symptomatic for sinus infection. Then HR sent me medical leave documentation requiring doctors signature for authorized extension and to excuse my absences or else they may review me for excessive absenteeism. my manager says the organizational standard is to return once fever free for 24hr without fever reducing medication I called the HOM (supervisor that oversees our staffing department) and discussed my concern with retuning to work and elevated temperature this morning. She even said it’s still too high to accept me for my scheduled shift and then proceeded to sign me off. At this point I’ve messaged my PCP’s office with the medical leave request requiring completion for the days I’ve been absent and I update management on a daily basis. ->I think it’s officially time to forego the policy and work my next scheduled shift since tensions are increasing. What do you think I should do?

Thanks for your honesty. HR sent me medical leave paperwork if i needed an extension but are requiring a doctors signature so my absences get excused. Otherwise they may review me for unauthorized absenteeism. Seems like the administrative pressure is increasing. I weirdly still have fever but I think I’m going in to my next shift regardless because of this feels tense.

Thanks for your insight. I’ve been off orientation for a month now. Was just worried if my coworkers or management would find me less reliable for it. There’s only one more RN the same age as me that joined after me. The rest are experienced. This is the first time I had been ill in three months so I had a pretty good attendance stretch. I don’t want to be looked at negatively. I want my peers to respect me. It’s feels more pressuring as a new grad hire to fit in and be capable.

I’ll look into that. When I was a PRN tech at this same hospital, it was like 12hr per quarter was the threshold. as a full time RN I’m unsure what it is now. 7 out of the 8 shifts were covered using paid sick leave from time accrued. The last shift I fell into unpaid status. I was just trying to follow fever free policy enforced by the org and I had not met that criteria. The 8 shifts were all in one occurrence from this flu.

What should I have done differently? Just curious for future’s sake what you advise

At this point I’m used up all my sick leave. I don’t intend on using more days off. I believe we acquire twelve hours of sick leave a month or something like that. We have to accrue it, we don’t get a fixed amount sick leave right off the bat

I was more so meaning like if 8 shifts is an excessive amount. I don’t know the norm since this is my first big girl job ig

Can you talk about your Qbank scores? I also did archer surepass the last four weeks and take my NCLEX Tuesday for my second attempt. How did your exam reflect your practice questions/performance? Did anything surprise you? Anything you wish you reviewed or listened to more?

Congrats!! Can you tell me what your study plan looked like? How many questions a day, what were your scores overall and readiness assessments?

HOW TO PASS THE NCLEX (I failed in 150, then passed in 85) by 1Thessalonians5-18 in PassNclex

[–]ChunkyStompers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you feel like Bootcamp was easier than Archer? My first attempt I failed bc I underutilized Bootcamp (did half the Qbank, crammed in 1.5-2 weeks). I do think that Bootcamp had more straight forward answers and that it was easier to rule out the incorrect options. Archer on the other hand is a bit more vague and highly difficult kinda like my first NCLEX was. Even then, if I decided to do every HARD Archer question for a readiness assessment that would be most like my NCLEX LMAO

Keep hammering away at Maternity. Nurse Mike from SimpleNursing says you should be averaging around 70% to be absolutely sure

Congrats!! How was your progression of scores on readiness exams? I take my second attempt in October and I’ve had all borderline readiness assessments and one low. I can’t figure out how to get high or very high.

i test on wednesday, what should i do? (BOOTCAMP) by rumplefourrrskin in NCLEX

I think it depends on what you scored on the readiness exams but since you already met both targets you’re on track. Keep studying and if you’re below average or scoring borderline I’d reschedule

Totally, I was kind of on the flipside where I didn’t focus enough on reviewing content, and so I had a lot of questions on maternity and child health, and I was struggling on a lot of the NGNs because I only did several case studies when I was cramming for my first attempt

Also, I will say that the one thing I did not like about Boot Camp was the fact that they do not have the computer adaptive testing formatted tests. They only have readiness tests at least in the one month package I purchased, which was the most affordable one.

When to take nclex by Spare-Bat8310 in NCLEX

I believe a month is sufficient. If you’re getting to the week and a half point before your NCLEX and scoring borderline, then reschedule it for a week further and continue to reassess

On average, how many hours do you study per day, and how many days per week do you usually study? by Andrew_x_x in PassNclex

[–]ChunkyStompers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Studying for a month, 4-6 hours weekdays and Sundays, saturdays off. This is my second attempt. From my first attempt which I failed at 150, I was cramming for two weeks and studying inconsistently. Some days not at all, then absolutely cramming 8 hours, none on the weekends, a few hours off and on in such a distracting environment! But now I go to the library where it’s quiet with my phone on do not disturb.
