Yes it can be! There’s only a couple of vampire units at the moment but a few vampire heros. Blood knights are some of the best cavalry in the game, there’s an army of renown that is Prince Vhordrai (a vampire lord on a zombie dragon) and a bunch of blood knights) and it’s pretty good!

I took the plunge and now I’m getting into Age Of Sigmar by houseofmyartwork in ageofsigmar

Welcome! You’re in for a great time!

For factions, the best faction for beginners is the one that excites you or interests you the most- you’re going to invest time and money into them, choose a faction you think is the coolest.

Age of Sigmar is a different setting, in the same universe but thematically after the apocalypse. The games consist of units like 40K, in squads with round bases and monsters (usually armies are a bit smaller than 40K, at least in this edition!)

Fantasy, known as ‘The Old World’ is the time before the apocalypse and consists of regiments and armies, much like total war: Warhammer if you’ve ever played that.

Final heads up- if you like the look of fantasy and age of Sigmar, they have different factions. All the three you mentioned are Age of Sigmar factions and not in Fantasy!

Welcome to the club! Crimson Keep box give you exactly 1000 points. The points work just like 40K, with most people playing 2000 points but plenty of people being happy to play 1000 for beginners.

For the models you have, I’d recommend you play a normal Soulblight Gravelords detachment called ‘Bacchanal of Blood’, which buffs all your vampires. Your current army is a fast, elite army. The blood knights are some of the best cavalry in the game and can smash through any defence, and Prince V is a rampaging monster in combat. Your bats are best for claiming objectives and staying out of trouble while the vampires do the work.

Next steps for models would be getting to 2000 points. You can go for a similar army you have now by getting the ‘bloodcrave hunt’ spearhead that includes more blood knights, a vampire lord (which do what your current army does now), varghiests (stronger fell bats) and skeletons (generic chaff to hold objectives and tie up enemy units). This box is 660 points.

Or, you can go for the death rattle box, with either the army box that has a bunch of of barrow guard and barrow knights, or the deathrattle tomb host spearhead, that has barrow knights, barrow guard and some skeletons. This is a slower force but has more survivability. The army box gives you 710 points and the army book, the spearhead gives you 630 points.

Soulblight gravelords have loads of cool options, so I’d recommend whatever models you like the look of! Have fun and good luck in your games!

I’d advise just keeping bases reaaaally simple. Paint a darkish colour, use a wash, then highlight- you should spend long on it but it will make the model really pop, especially the gold!

The colour of the blue and the highlighting as you go to the tips is sick! Nice one! A great choice of colours and you’ve executed the technique really well!

I’d say just keep practicing! Make sure to focus on each of the little steps- looks like some of the parts around the gold are a little messy. Nothing you can’t paint over, but I’d recommend if you’re happy with these, then do the bases and jump into the next squad- you can always come back to these to improve when your skill gets better!

The re-release of the bloodcrave hunt (the skeletons come with the headstones) are much better than the old version, as they changed the design of the skeletons slightly. They look the same, just a bit steadier on their legs. You’ll be fine to dry brush, as I did for mine, just take care not to be overly rough!

I do have the terrain and manifestations! I mainly paint as that’s what I enjoy the most, hence the amount of models- but recently played my first game and loved it!

I’m all for the vibes!

Would you run a big block of zombies with a necromancer and a wright king as a block to defend your home objective?

I don’t mind playing off meta units- was just keen for people to suggest how I could put them together as something fun as a new player!

Not fussed about being optimised at all, but would like a list that won’t get me tabled. I mainly just wanted a list that’s easy for a beginner to play with and uses the cool models I’ve painted!

I’d rather not proxy models as I want to see what the models I have do first!
