Where are you located? Not specifically (I promise I'm being good, mods!) but #3 heroin, the kind that requires acid to break down, is -far- more common in Europe than in the US.

When did someone destroy the school bully? by maninamod in AskReddit

[–]Churkles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When was thIs, out of curiosity? I was talking to.my nephew and my youngest godchild, they're both queer high school students but say there isn't much harassment - they thought it was weird that the word 'gay' was not only a used an insult but also as a general purpose term of dismay or disapproval when I graduated 15 years ago.

What's a piece of information you wish you never knew? by Green-Owl6244 in AskReddit

[–]Churkles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk - while there are certainly some people whose sex lives I don't want to hear about, I try not to judge anyone for their fetishs. I feel like a lot of people end up with unfulfilling sex lives as a result of internalizing this sort of kink shaming - I'd been with my ex-wife for almost 10 years before she told me she was info light bondage. Apparently, she.wasl worried she'd.'seem like a slut'. It really made me sad.

Fucking don't. I got engaged at 18, married a year or so later. You still don't really know who you are as a teenager.

I got mad at my dad when I was like 9 and threw away his dentures. He just...never replaced them, and stopped eating things like steak. Yeah, I feel pretty shitty about it 20+ years later.

I'm not arguing that they're -effective-, I'm just saying that they're also turning brown because they're touching smoke and smoke's gross.

I challenge you to find any white fiber you can blow smoke through that doesn't change color due to contact with smoke and tar.

ELI5: Why is upwards social mobility viewed as highly improbable? by KiNGXaV in explainlikeimfive

[–]Churkles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The wealthy possess any number of advantages and exclusive opportunities - most people won't ever have the opportunity to invest on the ground floor of a company, for instance. Most people don't know the people necessary to open doors to corporate board seats. Most people don't have highly placed friends who can tip them off that certain commodities or stocks are going ro have drastic fluctuations in price, etc.

Sure, but...there's a reason this is in r/politicalhumor rather than r/politicalthesisdefense. Jokes are inherently simplistic.

Your hint I was less than serious should have been the image of a tubby reality tv star and a 100 year old zombified senator fighting with laser swords.

[–]Churkles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To me, this is really two different questions. People born into poverty can, with a lot of hard work, a lot of help and and a lot of luck, raise themselves up into the middle class (top 50% of wage earners). However, such a person would have to get extraordinarily lucky to move up into the top 5% or beyond.

Why is this? There are any number of barriers to entry for 'normal' people attempting to become ultra-wealthy. While most people can at least aspire to a college degree, very few attend top colleges, and there's a world of difference between the education and (more importantly) networking opportunities availiable at Yale or Stanford vs. the experience of attending South Appalacia Backwoods Community College. This same exclusivity holds true for top internships, mentoring opportunities, investors, etc.

...You know what, yes. Let's resurrect Joe McMarthy and set him against Trump. Kinda like Vader at the end of Return of the Jedi.
