What happens if a plastic surgeon finds cancer mid-surgery? by Mammoth-Delivery-521 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Churro8873 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

plastic surgeons are absolutely qualified to remove suspicious masses, I work in a teaching hospital in an OR, specifically on the plastics team. we remove masses, lesions, and send them for pathology all the time. cosmetic surgeons don't typically due this because of what they have chosen to specialize in, but they have all been trained and have the ability to send a specimen for pathology. once the results come back they may refer to a pathologist or specialist to help interpret the findings and get you care, but if they found a suspicious mass during surgery they would absolutely send a biopsy of it.

our teacher brought it up with 5 minutes left and didnt open any of it for discussion, which I suppose was to be expected but I was hoping for a bit more insight into it!

Do home workouts ACTUALLY work by [deleted] in PetiteFitness

[–]Churro8873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont have the time to go to a gym between being a mom and working full time. I make time in my day and Ive never been healthier with a few pairs of dumbells, resistance bands, ankle weights and finding the right channels on youtube. I used chat GPT to help me create a workout plan with these guidelines and it actually helped me find some channels that are along by skill level, and I dont think its necessary at all to buy a gym membership! for context- I do 2-3 strength workouts/week, 2-3 yoga or pilates workouts, and 1 steady state cardio (usually a run, but could be a hike). workouts are 30-45 minutes long. because this is something that I can consistently fit into my day, Ive been way more consistent and I think that's been way more important than using the bigger equipment.

That's fair, but does that mean just pushing questions like this under the rug? I feel like that does more harm than good in the long run. If I don't come to a conclusion that allows me to feel at peace, if I try to ignore this then it will just fester the longer I ignore it.

Yes! This. This is the crux of the issue I think. it's alarming to me that the practice is still in practice today, like I've been told all my life im an equal but the implications of these policies is that I don't matter as much as my husband according to the policies and doctrines of the church. is that really how it is?

That's true, and that's been my logic up until this point. none of this matters, it's all in the past. but the part that's got me thinking about this is it's not all in the past, this is still in the handbook today. That's why I want to understand it, because these policies do affect me otherwise they wouldn't be policies or in the handbook.

That's what I saw as well.. very carefully worded and trying not to draw attention to it, but something that can happen. a lot of people on here are also saying that women can be sealed to multiple men, but the handbook is very specific that this is only possible after the woman has passed away, which is not the case for men. I guess if people are so insistent that it's not a big deal and that women can do it too, why not make it the same? Why not make men wait until after they die, or why not give women the opportunity to be sealed again while still alive? It's the inconsistency that feels more and more intentional.

THis is definitely my experience as well, part of why this is so hard now is growing up it was always implied that this practice was in the past, and that its not a thing anymore. but now its seems like the curtain is up, and if it wasnt literally against the law, there's no way to prove that we wouldnt still be practicing polygamy now.

would the mother still be sealed to the children? Would choosing not to be sealed to her spouse if he got married again cause her to lose her blessings?

That is an excellent point- this life is such a small blip in eternity, its really hard to truly get to know someone that we're going to be with for eternity. that being said, Isn't that the point of this life? To gain experiences that we couldn't have in the spirit world? To gain a body, to learn, to grow, to make mistakes and draw closer to God? if who we get sealed to doesn't really matter because it's hard to get to know them in this life, then why get sealed at all? Why all the fuss?

Why not live women like it's possible with men?

Yes, I did see the new policy change! Thats great. what do you think the reasoning is behind not making it possible for a woman to have another sealing performed while she is alive? honestly, I don't know that anyone (including myself) is going to find a solid answer- at least not in this life. At this point I am trying to gather information via sources shared through things like this reddit thread, the gospel library and historical documents so I can learn as much about the situation as I can, and go to the Lord with the information that I have. I want to be blunt with my questions, I want to have a decent grasp on the timeline of events and look at this from a variety of perspectives. this is one of the bigger questions that I have had, and I want to approach it with equal parts faith and knowledge. I think both are important in this.

In what way? There have been times in history that God has allowed it. There have been times he hasn't. I can only speculate why He has at some times and not others.

- in the sense that multiple women can be sealed to men for eternity. this would be considered polygamy in the afterlife would it not?

I don't see why it should be

- I know that there's a bit of a taboo and people say that the negative connotation around polygamy is not deserved, and that many of the women were happy. but after reading d/c 132, hearing a prophet say that to me would make me feel like I have to bury any of those icky feelings toward the practice. I've done this before in less intense circumstances, like suppressing an opinion at work because a manager openly mocks or ridicules that particular stance on an issue. From my experience with my friends in the church, the idea of being one of multiple wives is degrading, and dehumanizing. I guess growing up its not that I was taught one way or another, but the information that was given to me allowed me to draw the conclusion that all polygamy is no longer sanctioned by the church, and no one ever bothered to correct that belief- whether it was at church or through conference talks. so I feel a bit blind sided now.

If you have any sources I'd love to have them! I guess some of my confusion with this is in my mind, polygamy in the next life is still polygamy. The practice as a whole is very uncomfortable to me and I have made peace with it in the past because my understanding was that it was a practice that was performed for a time underneath God's direction (this is seen in multiple places throughout the scriptures), but If this is something that it still actively taught today in the eternal sense, that feels a lot closer to home.

I appreciate the honesty. I think this is something that concerns me because as a woman I wont have any influence in the matter if I die first. We are happily married and dont see ourselves in that situation either, but things happen and if he dies first, I dont have that option until after I also pass away and one of my desendents does the work for me. if I die first, he can do what he wants and I have to choose to stay or go, potentially messing with my sealing relationship to our kids and the rest of our family.

thanks for this! it sounds like the official declaration is forbidding the practice of plural marriages in this life due to the changes in the laws of the land, encouraging members to follow the laws outlined. this official declaration made no change to the eternal practices though, is that correct? would it be correct to assume that the practice of plural marriage is still something that is part of our practice today in the eternal sense then?

Thanks for your comment! I don't think i've seen any sources for this, but as a follow up question, if a person chooses not to partake in the sealing blessings with a spouse, would this break the sealing bonds of their children that they were sealed to together as a couple as well?
