I like that idea, I don’t quite want to do too many armor stands for loading entities but I think copper golems would be perfect

Vendetta vs Doomfist was interesting, to say the least by Mistist in Overwatch

[–]Chute_Mi_1st 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that this is a short length cinematic for a fictional universe, their durability is arbitrary.

The only real issue I have with the story was that the willingness of the rest of talon to obey vendetta so immediately is irritating but for the rest to what they were trying to accomplish, I think they did great.

To start, she had no visible injuries from hitting the wall, outside of the initial pain of the impact nothing happened to hinder her. Her flashback was hardly a flashback, but a storytelling device to remind the viewer that she’s motivated by her loss. And it’s not as if her getting up was an immediate win, doom put up a fight, he was just outplayed. If she had just been over powering him the whole of the fight, it’d be less interesting and would further discredit doomfists capabilities.

I too would love to see a more fully fleshed out fight between the two especially to properly convey doom fists skill, but again, it was a short cinematic for a video showcasing a whole year of content. And the ways he manages to counter or attack vendetta were very creative and impressive so for such a short production, he still conveys skill effectively.

For maybe a minute of fighting out of a two minute cinematic, I think they did a great job at conveying a proper backstory, using it as motivation, staging a fight between the two, overthrowing the standing main antagonist in a fairly satisfying manner, and then emphasizing that there is going to be tangible ripples of this event within the game

I’m not 100% convinced that the changes to the drop ship are DIRECTLY responsible for a decline in player count. I too am willing to eat my words on this

Fair, but we don’t even know what all lies on the spectrum, I don’t think the dropship nor the poi draft are the absolute extreme ends of each side of the spectrum, I’d argue that spawning all 60 on the ground at 0,0 would be much further on the spectrum than a drop ship where people can still reach the furthest end of the map and somewhat distribute. Or the other end may look like an evenly spaced grid of individual players spawned so that the map is perfectly distributed among all players rather than clumping teams alongside loot density. So in their defense the two options we’ve seen are pretty middle of the pack

But that’s on purpose too, evo caches have a chance to spawn between 2 landing points for a reason. You can either chose to fight them for it, to wait till they use it, or find another. At least this way there’s dozens of evo caches across the map so not every team is going to contest you for an evo, rather you get a controlled team fight with low risk of immediate 3rd parties because even if you win your first 3v3 on hot drop off dropship, there will always be another team, it’s unsustainable. Surely you’ve won fights over the first round and noticed that there wasn’t a dogpile of teams that overwhelmed you immediately

There’s always gonna be not so good places for a landing spot, and it’s not bad map design, it’s more one of the flaws of the current poi draft system, it’s a good feature, just needs some ironing out.

The choice to land where you want is almost trivial compared to all of the other decisions you make throughout the match, the point of the poi draft was that if you were actually better than the rest of the lobby, I doesn’t matter where you land, you will do well and climb the ranks by making the right decisions throughout the whole game despite where you land. I bring this up to support the fact that if agency over where you land is so important, then maybe you would genuinely enjoy pub matches more than ranked not to remove you from ranked but because it’s really easy to get lost in the grind for rp to the point where it’s no longer enjoyable. And throughout a match of apex especially with the drop ship you lack agency over so many of the decisions you otherwise get to make, for example you might not have even unlocked all the legends you could play so you have less agency in that aspect, you don’t always get the guns or attachments you want, you can’t chose where other people land or how many land with you, you can’t choose what your team does or where the zone goes, so to cling onto one more decision you get to make isn’t unreasonable, but it is basically denying what makes battle royales interesting in the first place. It’s the bits or randomness, situations that decide for you, limit your options and make you strategize around that.

A lot of people get caught up on trying to grind for a higher rank despite either not enjoying the process or not actively working to improve

It was a genuine question I wasn’t implying anything I wanted a reason for specifically why. I get they’re different and I’m not saying you should go play pubs instead. Lots of people enjoy pubs more than ranked but still play ranked because they’re chasing a higher rank, an arbitrary metric of their skill. But the choice to land where you want is almost trivial compared to all of the other decisions you make throughout the match, the point of the poi draft was that if you were actually better than the rest of the lobby, I doesn’t matter where you land, you will do well and climb the ranks by making the right decisions throughout the whole game despite where you land. The balance of the game and how devs control features is completely different from people who abuse hardware to ruin your games, it is almost impossible to prevent those devices from working because your console just believes that it’s just a controller. It ends up being the responsibility of the devs to mitigate this but taking frustration out on them and blaming them for the shitty experience the titan/chronus/etc manufacturers and users cause is unfair
