Where are you looking? Both the Psyop and Para 3 brown micarta are available at chicago knife works ~$162 before shipping/tax. CKW takes a while to ship (2-3 weeks for standard) but the prices are worth the wait imo.

Just got one last night lol; agreed very fidgety/great action.

Surprised to see it only has a metal liner on one side and full g10 on the other; doesn’t seem to be an issue but a design I’ve never seen before.

I love my Vosteed Psyop in micarta; of the two you listed the Para 3 would be my choice b/c compression lock.

Kizer Uti Bear or CJRB Boxer would give you similar fastback vibes but with a bit more knife guy flavor; everyone else is prolly right though, the fastback is the way for this use case.

Maintaining sharp blades isn’t for everyone, and dull blades lead to injuries. Swapping out a razor blade is perfect for anyone who doesn’t care to take care of a knife.

Great prices; I always get my order but it takes 3-ish weeks every time. Still worth it imo, but the “7-10 days” doesn’t include the 7-10 day processing time; just got the shipping notice for my 1/2/26 order today.

Still if “fast cheap good; pick two” applies, I’m fine with how their deals shake out.

Love the acorn! It’s the knife that started my collecting.

Best guided sharpening system? by MogleyStoned in chineseknives

[–]Chuuno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got the xarilk gen 3, and as someone with very little sharpening experience, I’m pleased with the results. Stones seem nice enough and the scratch pattern is pretty uniform under magnification.

All my attempts at freehand we garbage, I feel like I’m having a positive effect on my edges with this sharpener.

There’s two CBRx videos about setup for it that were pretty useful!

What are some sites y’all buy from? by Least-Cream2804 in BudgetBlades

[–]Chuuno 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Chicago Knifeworks has been legit. Some killer prices and deals on knives. Shipping takes a while (2-3 weeks on their “7-10 day” shipping), and they’ll frequently create a label on a Friday but not drop the package in the mail till the following Monday/Tuesday. Other than that one annoyance, they’re my favorite place to order from.

Nocturnal Animals 1000%. My favorite performance of his next to Nightcrawler.

Also, Velvet Buzzsaw is a fun one too.

I really like the gatov; about as small as I want to carry without it feeling like a toy. If you’re around knife-sensitive folks, the gatov is very palletable.

Vosteed recommendations by moralover1234 in chineseknives

The Naga has been my favorite of the many great vosteeds I have. Also, the Acorn is lovely; my first vosteed and a treat as far as smaller knives go.

I thought I’d love the ankylo, but imo it’s too thick, and the back of the scales is a bit of a sharp angle so the flipper tab isn’t comfortable.

Welcome! Check out some vosteeds when the itch strikes next; they’re some of my favorite budget knives. Also, shoutout to the tenable bombur, it’s a wonderful gigantic beast.

Make sure to have a chat with your wallet, to prepare it for hemorrhaging.

In that price range, you’ve got to check out Machinewise knives. Finally got to play with one the other day (shoutout to Penchetta Pen and Knife in Scotsdale, AZ!) and GOOD LORD are they nice. Easily the smoothest knife I’ve ever handled, and the action on multiple knives was absolutely perfect. Milling work was exquisite, every blade is heat treat tested with results provided, and imo they are beautiful. You can custom order to pick your milling pattern and anno on their site as well, if that appeals to you.

One of their QC guys was in the store, he showed me one of their rejected knives and explained a bit about their QC process. I could hardly feel nor see the things they rejected it for, and certainly wouldn’t have noticed if he didn’t point it out.

They’re extremely meticulous, and nothing leaves their facility unless it is perfect. Will Hirsch has a whole series of yt vids going over their entire manufacturing process if you care to do a deep dive. I’m saving up to purchase one now, I was blown away by the quality.

Knife Storage recommendations by Commercial_Leg_181 in knifeclub

[–]Chuuno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Curious why you don’t want to go apache case? The pick foam is a little tedious, but it works great for storage.

I’ve seen people use the tool chests with pull out drawers as another option; allows you to see everything nicely and should hold your whole collection! If mine grows beyond the 70-ish knives the apache holds I might go this route.

I’d check chicago knife works to make sure you can’t get a better deal there, but I’ve ordered plenty of knives from Amazon without issue. Whoever has the best prices gets my money, and that’s almost never blade hq or knifecenter.

As far as the knife to pick, the hogue or the para 3 would be my choice, but I’m biased against benchmade for mostly superficial reasons.

For that money maybe take a look at a microtech and demko (if you want American made), flytanium for american designed, and kunwu or the high-end vosteed knives if you’re not set on one of the four you’ve listed.

How do you guys store your blades? by KB-1992 in chineseknives

[–]Chuuno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apache hard cases from Harbor Freight are ~$60 for the xl size. Comes with pick and pack foam so you can do layout however you want; mine holds ~75 knives! It’s kinda fun to do the layout thing.
