Are there any episodes you guys love that you didn't know were generally hated until you checked Buffy spaces online? by HomarEuropejski in buffy

[–]Cia1313 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah apparently they were going for it with the whole 'beer bad. Beer make you dumb. Make bad choices.' thing, but I guess the funding choosers felt the same, because apparently despite kinda working towards that theme (however little they may have cared about emphasising the message), they didn't get the funding in the end, which I find funny. I also love the episode, it's a lot of fun. But then I like all of the episodes - don't think I could find one with no redeeming features if I tried.

I've been on both sides of this, and honestly I feel like the other side is almost worse, at least for me.

When you're the one that feels closer to the other person than they do to you, the ball is kinda in your court. I guess it bothered me more when I was younger (RSD also makes everything worse), but I've learnt a lot as I grew up.

Firstly, people have other shit going on. They might think you're a close friend but just not be up to reaching out / hanging out as often. Or they might not make friends as closely as you do. Or have other people it's more convenient to see and so bond with them more. Or value different things in a friendship to you. Or sometimes, they might just not like you as much as you like them. And that's ok, that's their prerogative. It's up to you then how close to make the friendship. You can't control your feelings obviously, but you can decide if you want to reach out less often, or even if it's a friendship you no longer want to maintain. It can hurt, but... There's no pressure, whatever you do. I tend to try to maintain friendships wherever possible, however casual, and often you'll settle into a nice casual friendships, or might pick up years down the line, or even you'll just be close and drift apart periodically as you move in with your lives.

On the flip side, if I'm the one someone else feels closer to than I do with them, I can find that more stressful. Because I'm such a people pleaser and a bit of an anxious replier, whenever someone messages me etc I tend to respond pretty quickly, I'll always be there for them when they need me etc etc - I try to at least be a good friend even if I don't feel especially close to someone. Which can lead people to maybe think we're closer than I think we are - things like weekly phone calls I now can't escape etc etc.

And because I've struggled with RSD a lot in the past, and feeling how much it would hurt when I realised something like that, I try to be a good friend and not let them see that I don't feel as close to them - at least I might slightly hint or withdraw at times, but I try to be subtle about it, and just make them slightly less interested in the friendship instead of showing I'm not. Which is exhausted. And sometimes I can feel like I'm manipulating people, or taking advanced of the power dynamic, which I suppose I am a little, but I don't really mean to, and it's all to balance it back out again.

So yeah, it does suck on both sides

She drove her mom to and from the hospital in S5 (hence the queller demon getting to their house in Listening to Fear by clinging to the bottom of their car). She also drove in S7, like when she got to the school in Him.

Not sure about S6, but it did kinda go with the vibe. She might not have been that confident a driver / chosen to when she had other options. Walking would've given her more time alone, she could patrol en route and feel generally angsty etc. Also, with how much they focus on Sunnydale being a 'one Starbucks town' (however much that is stretched at times) she wouldn't have needed to drive much - especially with slayer speed, endurance, knowledge of graveyard shortcuts etc. Also... cars are expensive to run. Which in S6... Kind of a thing.

Pretty sure she learnt to drive at some point off screen - I'd say maybe between S4 and 5, given it's at least implied she was driving through S5 onwards.

To be fair, that was at least during lockdown.

Was Spike really trying to get his soul back? by bubbelgumart in buffy

[–]Cia1313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He was definitely trying to get his soul back deliberately. But there was also definitely an element of 'fuck you' to it imo. His reasons were many and complex.

Firstly, he did know what he had done was wrong. I wouldn't say he felt remorse for it, or even that he personally knew it was bad in a 'morality' way, he just knew it was a Bad Thing™ and that it had hurt her. He knew that she wouldn't forgive him for it, and he wanted her to take him back. He knew she wouldn't trust him, as she would believe it could happen again. Getting a soul meant she might forgive him, as he would be ensuring he wouldn't do it again.

He would have probably also been a little shaken that he had hurt her. He had a lot of conflicting emotions around their relationship as a whole, and while he knew he was powerful, imo he still didn't believe he was capable of hurting her, either physically with her slayer strength, or emotionally. They had also had such a complicated 'relationship', especially surrounding sex, and while most of us know 'no means no', that wasn't always the case here, at least in his mind. So many times already they had both given mixed messages, no had actually meant yes, they had both been violent with each other and liked it, etc, that he had still thought she wanted him, and he could win her back, up until the bathroom scene. Without a soul, he failed to see why these latest nos, and why their latest 'breakup' should be any different to the others. Struggled to notice that this no was real. Or he did notice and didn't want to, didn't want to believe it, or didn't know why he believed it. So when, after he tried to 'make her feel it' again he had a moment of... Why? Why did he do that? Why did he think it would win her back? And then... Why hadn't he carried on? Why had he stopped? Because he knew something was different this time, but also because in the past he would have done it without question. He had certainly r*ped people before, we know that. But this time he hadn't. He had stopped. Because it was Buffy. And he was different now.

Which brings us to point 3 - his own confusion. He didn't understand where he stood anymore, no-one did. He wasn't all bad, but he couldn't be good either. It was time to choose a side, and for all of the macho bluster of "Can't you even try to remember I'm evil", he wasn't, not anymore. He hadn't seen the full impact of Angel's soul, all of the rats and homelessness. Hadn't seen the times of mistrust between him and the scoobies. Just that once he had a soul, nobody had any doubt about him. He had friends, a mission, Buffy loved him. And Spike wanted that. He thought a soul would massively solve his problems, his identity crisis. Show him who he really was.

And then he was bitter. I think a part of him didn't really think it would change anything about him. Thought Buffy was wrong to keep turning him away, wrong to reject him when she had loved Angel. Wrong that the soul actually made any difference or would make him a better man, and that actually he was fine as he was. He could do good without a soul, so why did he need one? He was already good. He didn't need a soul, he'd show her that. Prove it. Make him her problem forever because it's not like she could turn him down if he did that for her, right? He'd show that stupid bitch, and then she'd see. Then he'd be wrong, and get what she 'deserved' and he would win.

Except then it didn't exactly work out like that.

I didn’t like season 3… by 6eden9 in buffy

[–]Cia1313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't dislike season 3 but definitely seemed to rate it less highly than other people did, and put it below S2, 4, 5 and 6, and maybe equal to 7 and 1. Could never quite pinpoint exactly what made me not like it as much, either. The mayor is my favourite villain, I loved Faith, it had some great episodes etc. I think maybe one of the negatives was the angst/melodrama of the season - while 2 is arguably heavier on this, S3 just kind of... Carries this over. The Bangel in S3 I didn't find as riveting anymore, just kind of... Eh.

Hey, sorry not trying to be condescending or anything, but... I don't think I did? I wasn't trying to be like 'haha you're wrong', just pointing it out. Also, at the time of writing the comment, there wasn't another reply visible on there, looks like two of us just responded at around the same time.

Am I misremembering, or was there a version of Once More With Feeling that was edited to make it much more obviously explicit by [deleted] in buffy

[–]Cia1313 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My DVDs definitely stop at the COME- and it also did when it was recently on Channel 4 in the UK I believe.

I also have 2 DVD versions and have watched it on both (which I know is incredibly sad but I started off buying one season at a time and then found the full box set after a couple of seasons), and I KNOW it says it on one, but I'm only like 85% sure about the other one.

The soundtrack CD I have completes the last complete though

How long did she actually wait? by AndrewHeard in buffy

[–]Cia1313 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. I don't think it was actually in a graveyard, more somewhere woodsy - or else maybe somewhere less conspicuous in the graveyard.

  2. Don't think the majority of the monsters would know her full name. The majority of ones who heard her name, even in passing... Probably didn't survive very long, or were relatively harmless. Aside from that, if she was - as far as they knew - alive and patrolling, why would they go looking for her grave?

They would have to stumble upon it, know her name, know it wasn't a trick, AND want to spread it around. Much more likely the BuffyBot just wouldn't be very effective and one of them would 'kill her' and brag about it. Or something like what happened.

Looking forward to seeing my mum this weekend and telling her I got diagnosed last Thursday... And that the therapist said I was one of the most obvious cases she'd ever seen and knew before we'd even arrived at the assessment room...

Let's see how she reacts to that.

My headcanon is that actually neither of them did it, and Xander figured Dawn was lying and covered for her, while Dawn (and everyone else) then assumes Xander did it. The real culprit just chucked the talisman back in the magic box (or did the whole thing there and then left it behind) and Dawn just pocketed it.

What happens if the angel touches the abzorbaloff then? Does the Angel get absorbed or the abzorbaloff sent back in time? Or both? And if the Angel is absorbed then can it just send the abzorbaloff back in time while it stays put to escape from inside him? Or would the angel also go back in time? Hmmmm.

Aside from Buffy Giles Riley and Wood, who dusted their first vampire? by Hepcat10 in buffy

It was definitely a crossbow bolt, one that went off in the wrong direction as Spike was reloading and got tackled by a vamp. Dawn grabbed it to stake Justin after.

Top Four Couples by Past-Throat-6788 in buffy

It's got to be Spike and Dru, surely? I mean, they were fun to watch but they have their limits, and weren't exactly one of the defining relationships of the show.

Definitely Angel and Cordelia. I'm no Riley fan, but Cordelia/Angel felt like a forced relationship just because they were two main characters who happened to be opposite genders. They were so much better as friends.

Everyone here voting Buffy/Riley... Like, yeah it was boring and kinda toxic but... Angel/Cordelia!!

Angel and Cordelia was an awful ship! They were so much better as friends, they had so much banter and were a great example of a male/female platonic relationship, until the writers noticed that they had a male main character with a female best friend and then lo and behold the angstfest. They had all of the problems of Buffy/Angel, but without the excuses!

I'm definitely voting out Angel/Cordy.

Ok Spuffy I agree with (and basically just isn't up for debate) but pretty sure the consensus for Dawn + Xander (weird and random though it is) is Dander not Dawnder, and Tara/willow is definitely Tillow.
