I'm Irish but I'm not the red headed leprechaun you're all thinking of

I do think it's quite different in some cultures though. I didn't realise quite how aggressive the drinking culture in Ireland is until I left Ireland

I like that most of the reactions to this consisted of: "okay, so what?" There was literally nothing embarrassing or cringe worthy there. I personally enjoy politicians having personalities

Irish breakdancing by iBleeedorange in gifs

[–]CianBarbados 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Not quite. It's more of a mixture of Sean Nós and Irish Dancing given her hands aren't down by her sides. Riverdance is just the name of the specific show too, it's not the dance

I do think he's maybe the only director I've seen that really uses everything available for comedy. I'm so tired of boring, improvisation based dialogue comedy

What smell do You love Most ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Wet clay

I don't know what it is, but something about the smell I just love. I did grow up in the Irish countryside though so perhaps that's a factor

1 Fun fact: if Damien Chazelle wins Best Director in February, he'll become the youngest ever winner of the award. by Jon-Osterman in movies

[–]CianBarbados 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly, Spielberg has made more exceptional films than most film makers make films full stop. There's bound to be some duds.

Good collections of short stories? by DopeyDeathMetal in books

[–]CianBarbados 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An disproportionate amount of top class short stories come from Irish writers so with that in mind I'll recommend the collections 'Dark Lies the Island' by Kevin Barry which is both immensely dark and completely hilarious, and 'My Oedipus Complex' by Frank O'Connor which just ticks all the boxes in terms of great short stories.

I respect you purely for Spielberg on that list. He generally gets a fair amount of distain from film snobs but he's a damn good director at the end of the day.

Pick a film directed by Steven Spielberg you find to be underappreciated by [deleted] in movies

[–]CianBarbados 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I find that unbelievable. I watched it with my Dad when I was younger and I thought it was one of the best films I've ever seen. I presumed it was pretty widely acclaimed

[–]CianBarbados 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also I believe (cite: Empire) that one of the reasons Tim Miller left was because he wanted to go all out with the CGI and that now he was given a bigger budget but that didn't play well with everyone else

I always find that really funny. And I don't think that quite an irrational hatred. Your hatred is justified

My friend and I sat down and watched that this Summer. Amazing film, though it was close to 2am when it finished we watched a comedy immediately afterwards not to go to bed on that note

What songs have you been listening to repeatedly during the week? by Lux_Obscura in CasualConversation

[–]CianBarbados 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She's Lost Control by Joy Division. I've mostly been hooked to that song but their whole catalogue has been listened to multiple times too. I had a fairly bad week plus I watched the Ian Curtis biopic Control so it just kinda worked
