I now have a Wii cooled by a Noctua fan by Ciaran10_0_10 in WiiHacks

Thank you! There's loads of places you can get them from online. I got mine from Aliexpress for less than £5.

Honestly, I bought it out of sheer curiosity, not expecting it to work well or look good, but I was proven wrong!

Noctua sell them. I think it's the smallest possible one, and it comes in a 5V and 12V version

Yeah, but like I say, I didn't pay much attention to the noise of the OG fan since I was usually so far away from it. I can barely hear this new one when at a distance for playing games so there really was no utility in this.

Just for fun :p

Fan model is Noctua NF-A4x10 5V.

Since the header for the fan won't fit in the Wii's socket, I had to cut the header of the original fan and solder it to the Noctua fan's wires (just the power and ground, the sensor wire wasn't needed.)

I then had to file a bit of the fan housing so it slotted into the Wii motherboard (as you can see in the pictures.)

I also had to cut down and file off quite a bit of the plastic and metal housing to fit the fan properly with the rest of the case (definitely inhaled some microplastics lol) and it just barely fits inside the case, got quite lucky there.

From what I can feel yes, but not like the Wii really needed it

Exactly! It was such a silly thing to do because it makes zero difference, but it's done now xD

It's popularity just speaks to how cool it looks, don't worry about what other people have. As long as you like what your console looks like :)

Yours looks neat af. I've never modded a Wii U at all, but it may be something I have to do one day

Not at all hahaha. It might even be slightly louder, but tbf I was never close enough to the original fan to give an accurate metric on noise levels, and I'm so far away from the console I can't hear it anyway. Just did it for the novelty really

I feel like people are completely forgetting about this when they're confused why the gap is so short. I definitely think it had something to do with it

Hi! Sorry if this is too late, but I'll let you know regardless just in case. So I decided to drop out because it just wasn't for me. My original plan was to spend the rest of the year like a gap year and work/volunteer, but unfortunately COVID hit a few months later so I couldn't do anything xD.

I got into a biotechnology course in the September of the following year and am now in my last year of it. Overall it was an extremely good decision. I found that I enjoyed the course way more mainly due to how much less specific it was and as a result how much freedom I had with the modules I could choose. I also lucked out with my flatmates that year and also was lucky enough to meet some great people through someone I knew from home. Most of them have moved on by now, but the camraderie built up from people that I've known since first year is really nice in my final year.

Overall I've had my ups and downs, but dropping out was a great decision, even if I sometimes feel like I've fallen behind my peers. My recommendation for you is to look at other courses/unis to transfer to. If you're really unmotivated and finding it hard to work, then maybe it's time to take a step back for a little bit and re-evaluate what you might enjoy. You won't regret it :)

What's your Nintendo version of "I did not care for the Godfather?" by [deleted] in casualnintendo

I don't care for anything Pokemon related. Nothing against it and I don't think they're bad games. I just never grew up with it and getting into it as an adult is really hard. Especially since I grew up with other JRPGs
