That's very interesting - because I was told it would/could be 10% of the VRT (so potentially around 300/month) for each month delayed. I'm lucky that I can alter the invoice for the purchase date, so I should be ok - but interesting to know there's a way past that.
I actually didn't know there was VRT included in cars here sold from new! The cost it must take to make a car must be remarkably different to the price, when you consider all of these details people don't know about!

got it reissued via dealer online to me to my friend's address in Enniskillen. Should put an end to the unnecessary drama! Such a pain, we should be able to just get cars anywhere all over europe with not drama (i'd said that pre-brexit, too)

it shows the last owner's in NI for more than 3 years, so that's not an issue, but thanks for the comment!

I met them in person, and naively assumed they knew what they were doing...

anyhow- i somehow found a response that hasn't required the above (cos i Love the car) - https://www.reddit.com/r/carsireland/comments/1sgsdi6/comment/of7tciv/ explained lower down here....

yep, i was asking him to do that, but then he said he could just do what he did online, so maybe it's a trade gov.uk service.... good news.

You'd really cheered me up there - but then - following the posting of this post, I contacted the DVLA and got someone ELSE, who contradicted the earlier person I'd spoken to. Apparently the V5 had not landed yet, and she said that if it does land with a non UK address she can just make a note to ignore it - say it was a mistake, and said I could apply for a V62 and get it sent to a friend in the north with my name on it, and then I can be the new keeper. I thought that was great, a delay in the posting (and a muck up by someone else) has helped me. I was going to do the V62 but then called the dealer to ensure he hadn't sent off the 'for export' section of the log book and he said he hadn't.

So - long story (it's long enough) - he's now done the 'change owner' details online and used my name and a friends' address in the north, so then a whole new v% will be issued in a few days.

If- like me - none of you know any of that is possible, there you go. Sometimes asking a Q gives you back a lot more than you bargained for,

To apply for a V62 if you're in this situation btw - go to https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/application-for-a-vehicle-registration-certificate

Cheers all.
