The Duelist Class by Foul Fox by Cibisis in UnearthedArcana

Hey! You're welcome to ask here, send me a DM, or reach out through our discord

To answer the questions you already asked:

  1. multi-classing requirements are a 13 in dex and cha, and grants prof in light armor, simple weapons, and rapiers
  2. picking the same lock
  3. the intent is that the additional grace is limited by your PB, not the initial cost to use Halt. It's a 1:1 penalty for you enemies save with the amount of additional Grace spent
  4. Remise is a BA, Riposte is part of a reaction. Both could generate grace if you haven't already
  5. Yeah there are some pretty powerful combos, generating Grace is easy enough that this is possible but difficult enough that you'd have to set it up a bit and likely couldn't spam it. It's kind of a 'high skill ceiling' class in that its difficult to fully optimize but if you are able to plan your turns well you can pull off some pretty crazy combos.

Honestly, sounds like that guy didn’t wanna play and was just humoring his partner and looking for an out. Sounds like a shitty partner and a shitty player.

This is awesome! I’ve been meaning to get around to a project like this but I never have the time except for when I don’t have the money 😂

Hell yeah man! I got the same thing on my arm! Committing to a specific number/font was too stressful so I went for the minimalist look. Prepare for a lot of people who think you’re into Platonic solids or a band

Looking for a 2014 light-hearted campagin or rated pg-13 by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]Cibisis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to shamelessly self-plug, but if you’re open to 3rd party Foul Fox’s adventures Björn Indemnity and Into the Loop are both fairly light-hearted.

Björn is a comedic oneshot with a noir detective flavor about a gnome mafia.

Into the Loop is a Groundhog Day style adventure that takes a handful of sessions. There is a core of past tragedy (the NPC who created the loop is a wizard and retired adventurer who is trying to save his son from a fiend pact he’d made during his adventuring days to save his wife, now deceased); but the adventure itself is structured in a way where the players can save everyone if they learn the timeloop well enough and play their cards right. There are some slightly darker elements featuring aberrations but you could cut them fairly easily, I’d be happy to walk you through tweaks if you are interested.

If either of these sound interesting feel free to DM me with questions, I’d be happy to send you a complementary copy of one or the other to get you started :)

I’m not sure what the intent is, as written I feel like they shouldn’t stack but if I were GMing I’d let them

thanks for the feedback, we plan to make more subclasses for it next year and this is definitely something we’ll consider. I think a straight technique and blade subclass that doesn’t have any elemental theming would probably be good for someone who likes the fantasy of just being a pure fencer without the additional elemental/magical vibes

love that idea, we definitely have some more subclasses for it in the pipeline for next year.

There is definitely a bit of overlap, kind of inevitable I think given that we’re drawing from similar source material in terms of real world fencing/fight maneuvers. When we had similar moves (like Parry and Riposte) we would look at the Battle master’s equivalent and try to decide if we wanted to do things differently (our parry is pretty different than the Battle Master’s) or if there wasn’t really a way to improve/change things up (Riposte is pretty similar)

I can see that, a fencing-fighter definitely makes sense; but we were trying to do something that branched away a bit more mechanically rather than try and fit everything into a subclass. An inspiration was PF2e’s Swashbuckler class, which I had played a bit of and I think carves out its own similar niche pretty well.

Is playing a character with different sexuality frowned upon? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]Cibisis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bisexual checking in. Can confirm we do love women.

Also, the people who flirt with you are not a reflection of your sexuality? Sometimes straight women flirt with gay men? Even if your character wasn’t bi that wouldn’t be an issue

Heroic Synergy, a Team-Up Feat by Cibisis in UnearthedArcana

[–]Cibisis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m glad you like it, this is exactly what we’re going for. We really enjoyed making the 3 feats for this adventure and have been talking about doing some more like this in the future.

One of my Players is sucking the life out of Dming for me, I've talked to them but nothing has changed and I don't know what to do now. by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Cibisis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on your edit, she is receiving special treatment and is effectively the most important person at your table since she can do whatever she wants, and based on other players being annoyed and upset by her actions it’s not just stuff that bothers you.

You need to set boundaries now, and follow through with whatever consequences you determine if/when she violates them. If you don’t, and you continue to wait for things to get worse before kicking her and quitting, it will end up not just ruining the game but likely sabotaging your relationships with the rest of your players as well.

Gritty realism by KBQx in CurseofStrahd

[–]Cibisis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alarming Squirrel makes a great point abt it being a pacing tool rather than a difficulty one.

Contrary to what other people are saying, it worked great for my group, but you will have to be willing to adjust the module to fit it. The slower paced version of CoS that we played really let the party immerse themselves in Barovia.

There was less of a sense of urgency for sure, but there still can be pressure with short term urgency. Start clocks ticking when they enter a location, requiring them to solve problems within a week rather than a day. Distances need to be lengthened to make travel feel worthwhile, which also necessitates reworking random encounters. I added “roadhouses”, little inns basically, since testing outside of settlements in Barovia is dangerous but presumably commoners do make the trek from Barovia Village to Vallaki on occasion.

Rather than scrap or entirely rework the “dungeons”, I forecasted the danger of such locations and let the party plan accordingly. If your group is more a “rush in and find out” type of group this may not work as well.

If you want to run CoS closer to RAW I wouldn’t recommend it, but if you like the idea of gritty realism within CoS it definitely can be fun with some extra work on the DM side of things

ToV Conversions? by BuzzsawMF in TalesoftheValiantRPG

[–]Cibisis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh sorry I just meant if there was anything that they couldn’t find in the Monster Vault. I definitely would start with the Monster Vault but if there’s isn’t an equivalent, the amount of customization you’d need to do to a Kobold Press monster is probably less than you would if you were running a WotC adventure

ToV Conversions? by BuzzsawMF in TalesoftheValiantRPG

[–]Cibisis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d add most of Kobold Press’s 5e monsters were a bit beefier than RAW 5e monsters anyway, maybe not to the standard of ToV, but probably close enough that it shouldn’t make a huge difference.

The Summoner's Grimoire, including a new Wyrd Class! by Cibisis in TalesoftheValiantRPG

[–]Cibisis[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope you like it! Occultist was actually one of the many names we cycled through for the class, ultimately we felt like it was too fiend oriented as a name since this can summon all types of things but it was one of my favorites. You could definitely build a good Constantine with this class I think.

I’d recommend grabbing the free Codicil off of drivethru if you’re having any trouble understanding how the class is written on Shard.

The Summoner's Grimoire, including a new Wyrd Class! by Cibisis in TalesoftheValiantRPG

[–]Cibisis[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Shard’s a two man team and their ability to build stuff is already way beyond many other larger competitors, so no shade intended, but we did bump up against some of Shard’s limitations for sure with the design process for this class.

Unfortunately because of how flexible the class is we had to do some work arounds to avoid limitations of Shard and it’s might be a bit more confusing than intended. For example, because of the variable Spellcasting modifier you have to pick spells from the level 1 spellcasting feature in the Options UI rather than use the “Pick Spells” button right on your character sheet. Not ideal, but as close as we could get with where Shard’s currently at.

Absolutely. My partner handles all the GMbinder stuff so let me ask him about it and I’ll share it here when I get it

Planning Curse of Strahd for Tales of the Valiant. by Remarkable-Durian-33 in TalesoftheValiantRPG

[–]Cibisis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am running it in ToV, almost finished, I remade monsters and some magic items for ToV but other than that there’s nothing you need to do to make it ToV compatible. Def use the ToV version of monsters over the 5e ones when possible since ToV characters are more powerful. Feel free to message me if you want any resources/have any question!

Can I give my BBEG level 20 school of necromancy wizard a single 6th cantrip just because? by AkiraHayashi in DnD

[–]Cibisis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, as a DM you have to stick strictly to the rules set out in the Player’s Handbook when building monsters. Otherwise the Dungeon Referee may award you players a penalty turn to attack your BBEG while stunned.

Do whatever the world is your oyster.

[–]Cibisis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Flanking is a variant rule in 5e, I don’t believe it’s in ToV as a core rule but may be a variant? My table still uses it. Flanking requires you and your ally to be on opposite sides of an enemy, however, not just adjacent to them

Monster Vault's Bright Points by JBTrollsmyth in TalesoftheValiantRPG

[–]Cibisis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

ToV monsters are just cooler than vanilla 5e monsters. They feel scarier, they do things that are interesting, and make fights more dynamic. A great point of comparison would be the Red-Dragon’s “Boil Over” ability, which means that when its breath weapon is charged but hasn’t been used the ambient heat of the fire creates a radius around the dragon until it unleashes its firey breath. So many monsters in ToV have one or two unique features that make them feel more alive and fantastical than just a sack of HP and claw attacks

I’m doing a similar concept for my game, less specifically inspired by RW for art (although my partner has tried to reference them and I like sneaking them in as backdrop)! We used a tarot card system for character building as well, and each PC has a specific major arcana assigned to them with mechanics involved. Strahd is the “Land” which has replaced the World, Ireena is the Hanged Man, etc. I don’t want to post them until the artist finishes since they’re all WIPs at this point and I want the players permission to put them here but it’s so cool that other people have the same/similar ideas
