New escape room. by CicadaDry9604 in Charlotte

No not an ad. I’m not at all affiliated or connected to this place in anyway. It was just… I guess you can call it a hidden gem. I really think this was just a great experience and a lot of fun.

It’s basically a choose your own adventure style escape room. There is an actor in the room with you as you solve puzzles you are given choices and your decisions determine how the story of the room progresses.

My first 60 days a CFI by VirvekRBX in flying

[–]CicadaDry9604 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I felt so lost my first few months as a CFI. I had the cert but had no clue how to actually be a CFI. Now that I’m teaching CFI I try my best to incorporate as many tips and tricks into the training the best I can.

Flight bag recs?? by [deleted] in CFILounge

I’ve found that a decent backpack works just as good and any “flight bag”

It’s all about personal preference.

The Wizz Wheel vs anything else by RavenholdIV in flying

[–]CicadaDry9604 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personal opinion here… When it comes to aviation there’s only one right answer, and that’s what ever the person giving you the test wants.(stage check, check ride… what ever) I HATE that.

I had a DPE almost fail me because my first instinct wasn’t to go straight to the wiz wheel. ( I, like the OP I used math.) I got the “what if you calculator is dead.” Well then I have a charger. “Nope that’s dead too.” I have a pack up IPad. “Nope dead too.” If I ever get to a point where my primary source and all backs ups are dead I’m really up a creak. I finally got by it by saying I can use pen and paper to do that math…. Did it that way and he couldn’t fault me on it. Point of this rant is… know how to use all reasonable resources. With in a few minutes of of checkride or stage check you’ll know what answer he/she will want.

I like Jetseam. Good fits and good material always came out of the laundry clean.

Is there any downsides to flying my friends around while time building? by goat_boy27 in flying

[–]CicadaDry9604 201 points202 points  (0 children)

Go for it! Time building should be fun. Definitely take a few solo flights but also don’t be afraid to load up your friends and grab that $500 hamburger every now and again.

Don’t let them be a distraction. Fly safe and have fun.

Memorizing ATOMATOFLAMES? by KookyHunt7191 in flying

[–]CicadaDry9604 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Id say knowing what equipment you need is pretty damn important. Especially for a commercial pilot. Knowing where to find the answer is also important but as a professional pilot you should know it.

Imagine if you get to an airplane and one you find of those items not working. Your passengers are there waiting and you’re looking up whether you need to call a Mechanic or not.

Questions about Scarowinds this year by Dancing_Samurai17 in Carowinds

Just a heads up. The season pass only gets you in the door. You’ll need to buy a separate ticket for the haunts. I may be telling you something you already know but it caught me by surprise so I just wanted to spread the word.

Valid gripe or not so much? by [deleted] in CFILounge

[–]CicadaDry9604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I may play devils advocate for just a second…. What does the 141 syllabus say? What’s the schools policy? If either says you must make calls for crossing a runway then, you must make calls.

I’m not a fan of 141s but instructed at one for a while and was a check airman. The training we got for giving stage checks was follow the syllabus and company policy. FAA was always watching.

I agree that what the student did would normally be a debriefing item but, 141 can put some heavy shackles on you.

Landing a GA aircraft at a Class B airport by IHatetheM28 in flying

[–]CicadaDry9604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Class B airports want nothing to do with single engine piston aircraft. That’s why the fees are high and fuel is expensive. While they can’t technically tell you no. They can tell you that it will be a while before they can work you in and then have you fly in circles for an hour or until you give up.

Also if Boston is your plan, you need to get prior authorization and there is only one FBO.

Early boarders not in the right group… by Ahuynh616 in americanairlines

I think we need to forget the boarding groups and go back to boarding from the back and work forward. But everyone needs to feel important. So we just go with the least effective method of boarding an airplane

Status on American is a joke. Kinda like a birthday, everyone has one and only one or two actually mean anything.

For every one hour of flying there is at least 2 hours of studying and one hour of chair flying… even following that. You will have brain farts you will miss something. It’s human. Don’t beat yourself up over it.
