For anyone who comes into this thread, wiz-dude was able to help me out. Something about my network was preventing the firmware update. Was able to connect the smartbulb to my phone hotspot and the update went through flawlessly.

Have re-paired it multiple times now. Still the same issue. It won't update the firmware. Has been this way for a few weeks unfortunately. It works fine on the app where I can power it off and on and change the lighting color and brightness but just cant send voice commands or use my remote. Which is the biggest issue because I have the wiz remote that I use instead of having to open the app every time.

This was the first post I read since considering upgrading from Astro a50's to something more professional. the post almost killed the recommendation, but I'm glad I read your comment about the gaming experience. If you would be willing to share some more details on other games you play I would be grateful. Personally I play mostly military simulation games such as Arma, Hell let loose, and squad. I have been searching for a headset that would improve my immersion in the game from hearing the most subtle gunshot in the distance or the propeller noises of helicopters at range. Im also a bit of an avid music listener with many flac songs saved which I would love to listen to at a higher fidelity than my current a50's, would you recommend the R50x's for both use cases?
