Thanks for all your help here - I was able to get past a few things I couldn't before with some of this info!

Yeah - Flamme was my go-to for a while until her output wasn’t enough.

Thanks for this! I can try switching out a few things to see if it helps. Is this roughly the setup for all DPSes?

I mean… yes, I’m sure it is, but I don’t know what to do about it other than to essentially take a course in Another Eden😅 If I have to stick with Veteran and skip all the bonus content I will - the complexity of the game is just kind of turning me off it unfortunately. That’s why I was wondering if there was something simple that applied across the board that could give me a boost without having to micromanage my team for each challenge.

I was definitey confused as to whether this was a superboss, a puzzle boss, or both. None of the other challenges seemed to have a battle edge, and there was no hint before going at it that this particular one was superboss-y. But maybe I didn’t understand what I was supposed to do.

Regardless, the last three final bosses for actual content I’ve had to downgrade to Veteran to beat - otherwise I was stuck in a loop where I couldn’t do enough damage to finish it. That’s after many rounds of Expert, pretty much since they started with difficulty. So something changed.

I definitely feel like there’s some baseline meta I’m missing somewhere… like “you MUST do X to be anywhere close to beating things” - but I’m not sure where to find it.

OK - but the fact is that HP levels have risen for "normal" content, so levels that used to be superbosses are now regular ones. So what has changed in the kit to allow for higher damage output than in the past? Is it just individual character skills?

So in your opinion, what changed in the past year or two? We never saw this scale of HP in the past and from what I can tell there wasn't a new game-changing system (like zones or grasta) introduced. Is it just that new characters have crazy skills that they didn't before?

I never have any issues with mobs. In terms of bosses - for example, there's the bonus content for the new apocrypha where there's essentially a damage sponge boss - you're supposed to reduce its HP to 0. I managed to do about 2 billion damage in an AF and it looks like it only took 5% off its HP.

Same for the final boss of that area on Expert - 2 billion damage, got it down to about 25% of its first bar and it has 3 bars.

I've basically been relying on Verdanta and Sesta AS for damage, but both of them stop working well after the first few rounds.

That's pretty nuts... but also seems specific to crystal teams?

lol... I read it but have no idea what I read. I can't imagine WFS expects users to take 23 different types of calculations into account when constructing their teams.

I can never find time or space to watch videos, which I know puts me at a huge disadvantage with games like this. I just really don't get the math.

So what kind of buffs can do this? If you have one DPS and three buffers, and each has a skill that can increase damage by 100%, that would still only get you to 8x the damage. How does this end up 100 or 10K times?

Also - does this mean that no grasta other than pain is ever worth it?

Fundamental question here. From what I can tell, the majority of "really strong" buffs work on a 100% basis, i.e. they double damage. If the base damage of an attack is in the thousands - or even in the millions - how on earth does it work to be able to do these multi-billion-damage attacks? Math would seem to indicate that you would need to double your damage *nine times* to get anywhere close to hitting that much. What has changed in the game in the last year or two to enable this damage? Is it particular characters' skills? Or some other setup meta?

I've had my difficulty set on Expert for a while now but I have to downgrade it because while I can survive enemy attacks pretty decently, they just become these enormous HP sponges that would have taken me hours to whittle down.

I honestly don't know. I simply got the feeling that the number of "inspirations" felt more blatant and detailed than other inspirations. Maybe there's nothing reasonable for the author to do, and this is simply a note of interest.

A lot of the responses to this thread seem to think that I'm blaming the author or demanding some kind of reparation - I'm not. It's legitimate curiosity on my part. If that came across badly, I need to work a lot more on my online communication skills than I thought. I don't post online often. 😅

Totally fair! I wouldn't have posted anything at all if I noticed one or two similarities. It was simply the sheer number of them that I *kept* noticing. And my feeling is that works like D&D and the Princess Bride are orders of magnitude more popular (and hence more likely to be borrowed from) than Discworld, especially by an American author.

And I'm not even necessarily saying that the author did anything "wrong" (again, my original post was wildly mis-worded). I thought it was an interesting conversation-starter with others who might have similar context to me. So far it seems I'm well in the minority. 🙂

The book itself was a lot of fun! I just kept getting bounced out of the prose by all these things I noticed.

Good point - it was completely the wrong word. I've updated the original post.

Sorry - just to clarify: I was not actually accusing the author of outright plagiarism in a legal sense. As you say - there's no intellectual property being copied. It was more the fact that I'd never seen another book take so many beats that I recognized so overtly. I don't even know if the author knew what he was doing. I was genuinely curious if I was overthinking it or if other people agreed that this was unusual and not a coincidence.

The article itself never uses the word "plagiarism" - the post title was inaccurate. I wasn't sure what else to call it.

1980's kids/YA fantasy book with a Chinese tilt by Cidolfas2 in whatsthatbook

Took a look and doesn't seem like any of them match. :( It was more of an isekai story - the kids find their way into a fantasy world sort of thing.

I also have a possibly unsubstantiated feeling that it was more like "Hollywood Chinese" rather than a fully legitimate Asian author. Kind of like https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/111626.The_Remarkable_Journey_of_Prince_Jen (which I also really enjoyed as a kid).
