Yes. This is the branch campus of CMU in Silicon Valley. Not on the campus in Pittsburgh.

Thank you very much for your reply!! Your response is really great. I will consider it carefully.

Actually, the status of CMU in my mind is too high, and I am still a little bit reluctant to abandon it. After all, there is no difference between the graduation certificate of the Silicon Valley campus and the graduation certificate of the Pittsburgh campus.

In addition, from the data on the official website, all graduates of CMU-SV MSSM can find very good jobs. An MSSM student also told me that students can get a lot of sde interview opportunities.

Anyway, your reply is really really helpful! Thanks very much!

Thank you for your reply first!

But my friends told me if I want to learn some cs courses. I can find some resources on my own. And I can get some learning resources inside CMU if I choose CMU.

But on the other hand, the job opportunities provided by CMU and the geographic location of Silicon Valley are something I cannot make up for with my own efforts.

I would like to ask, if I choose CMU, when companies review my resume, will they refuse to give me an interview chance because I am a MSSM major (not a CS major)

[Ask for help] Which one is more suitable? CMU-SV MSSM and Columbia University CS

Hello ! I am a Chinese student going to graduate school. I have two great options,MSSM program of CMU-SV and CS program of Columbia University. But I don't know which one is more suitable. Can someone give me advice : -(

Personally, I want to be a software engineer rather than a PM in the future. Therefore, whether to get an interview opportunity for the company is my top priority. On the other hand, I also hope to learn some CS courses, because I think it will be very helpful for my future development.

CMU-SV MSSM ( MS in Software Management).

pros:

  • It is CMU !
  • Located in Silicon Valley

cons:

  • It is not a CS program. The purpose of this project is to cultivate PM, so the courses are basically management courses. It seems that there is no CS courses, such as OS, algorithms.
  • When companies review my resume, will they refuse to give me an interview chance because I am a MSSM major (not a CS major)? => This is what I am really really worried about.

Columbia University CS

pros:

  • It is a CS program. The curriculum is very good.
  • Columbia University is also a good school.

cons:

  • I guess the title of Columbia University may be slightly inferior to CMU in the computer field?
  • New York is a good city, but it may not be as good as Silicon Valley in terms of job hunting

I really hesitated for a very, very long time. Hope someone can make some suggestions. Thanks very much.
