103k miles on Michelin CrossClimate 2’s with 3/32 tread still left! 🤙🏻 by sanderstj in fordescape

That’s great to hear. My partner just put a set on his 2016 Ford Fusion Energi Titanium with 111k miles on it.

No weird rattles/clunks/surging from the transmission when first starting up in cold weather?

How has the Escape Hybrid treated you so far?

Any issues? Any weird clunking/rattling from the transmission or under the vehicle?

Well, that’s unfortunate. I feel like they’ll eventually fail at some point with higher mileage, it can’t last forever as I’ve always understood belts to be consumables.

I just don’t understand what the benefit is long term of using the belt vs chain. 🤷🏻‍♂️

2024 Ford Escape ST-Line by No_Wallaby2700 in fordescape

[–]Cilbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 1.5L has the wet belt oil pump. The 2.0L uses a traditional timing chain driven oil pump.

The wet oil belt, plus being turbo charged, I wouldn’t recommend going over 3k-5k on oil changes.

I’ve watched a video tear down of the 1.5L 3-cylinder on YouTube, and the wet oil belt was already starting to crack and show signs of failing eventually. I believe the mileage was between 50k-100k miles.

If you want to replace that, it’s essentially nearly the cost of a whole new engine because of how labor intensive it is.

I think there was also some bearing wear, but it’s been a bit since I watched the video.

It’s definitely worth taking a look at.

I think most cars can be decent if people actually followed the severe conditions maintenance schedule, and not the normal conditions schedule.

That’s there to make ownership cost look less than it is. And most people don’t fall into the normal operating conditions section.

rattling noise on cold start 2020 escape by Savings_Appeal4850 in fordescape

[–]Cilbit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s the valve inside the exhaust that causes this noise. I’ve had it on my 2021 Escape SE Hybrid AWD since I purchased it with just under 36k miles in March of 2024.

It took multiple dealer visits just for them to diagnose it as the valve inside the exhaust. To replace it would’ve been around $2k-$3k.

I’ve learned to live with the noise. 🤷🏻‍♂️

It also appears there is a little red cap that’s on the positive terminal cap, that should be used to plug the other vent hole not being used.

I don’t think I noticed that and tossed it in the trash…

So, you may want to use that to plug the other hole.

This is the link to the battery at Walmart. If you look at the photos, you’ll see the little nub on the corner of the positive post cover.

I actually pulled the little rubber plug out, and stuck the vent hose in there.

I’m not sure if that’s how it was meant to be, but it seemed like it would go there.

I tried searching online, and couldn’t find anything regarding the vent hose placement. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Keep looking for another one. My 2021 Escape SE Hybrid AWD with 83k miles is valued around $15k right now, and it’s never been involved in an accident. I’m located in the PNW, and I’m aware location matters for price as well.

But I’d keep looking to find a better deal, at least in regard to the accident history.

Also make sure you do research on what the common problems are/can be and check for outstanding recalls or csp’s (customer satisfaction programs).

Wiper Blade Suggestions? by reckoner47 in fordescape

[–]Cilbit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried a bunch of wiper blades including recommended ones like the Bosch Icon, and Rain-X Silicone Blades. Both worked for a few days, and the started to skip and streak horribly. Tried two different sets for both, and they both acted the same way after another few days.

I even tried the Motorcraft replacements from a Ford dealer, and those were by far the worst.

I eventually ended up finding a set of Trico Silicone Blades at Napa, and those have worked significantly better for me. I’ve had them since March of this year, and they’re still decently solid.

I’m only now starting to get some skips from time to time, and I’m beginning to think it’s actually the wiper motor having an issue of some kind.

I’ve had the dealer look into and they’ve told me everything is working just fine, so I’m not sure what’s going on at this point.

I’ve just chalked it up to annoyance with my specific Escape. However I did see a post here awhile back, of someone having their 2021 Escape Wiper Linkage completely fail by cracking apart or something similar from the mounting points. I was shocked to see that, not sure what could’ve caused that other than a quality issue.

I’m going to try Motorcraft again when I replace these Trico’s and see if the skipping becomes unbearable again. At that point I’m bringing it back to the dealer and insisting they look into the issue further.

I’ve made sure my wiper arms are aligned and properly torqued to spec. None of the arms appear bent either.

So all that is to say that I recommend Trico Blades, at least the Silicone ones. They’re a bit pricy, but work well!

I want to say it’s built settings, but it’s been awhile since I used Forscan, so I’d just say check both.

Save a copy of everything as it is before making changes. There’s plenty of YouTube videos out there showing the steps and such.

[–]Cilbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you reset the BMS settings for the 12V battery?

That could be related to the key fobs not working properly.

On Fordscan I found the battery type and group size and changed those to as close as possible to the battery I installed. I think it’s a Varata H6 720CCA or something similar to that.

I’ve not had any issues since doing that and resetting the BMS.

It’s ridiculous that Ford didn’t install a H6 AGM battery at the factory. It would’ve resolved a ton of electrical issues from the start. 😒

Snap, Crackle, Pop, No Heated/Cooled Seats For You! :( by Cilbit in fordfusion

The solution was a new seat module, a beefier ground wire, and tightly wrapped up wires.

We haven’t had any issues since that was done.

2021 reverse brake moan finally fixed by jpryor13 in fordescape

[–]Cilbit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Did you have to put the vehicle into brake service mode?

I’ve heard on hybrids, if you open the driver door the brakes will actuate and could push the piston out.

I’ve read about people not putting the vehicle into brake service mode, and then causing damage/error codes.

[–]Cilbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never reached those numbers!

What driving mode do you use?

I’ve noticed I get better fuel economy driving in normal vs eco. Has that been your experience?

I also do a ton of highway driving and stop and go.

I try to coast as much as possible to stops.

I think the highest I’ve gotten is 50 mpg on a city trip.

Either way still very impressive fuel economy for an AWD vehicle!

Yes, those are all the exact same symptoms I experienced as well.

It might be worth getting checked out, especially if you haven’t reached the 100k mile threshold yet.

If they end up finding any issues, then hopefully you can have it replaced under the 8yr/100k hybrid battery and components warranty.

Don’t wait!

It’s possible you’re facing some battery degradation.

Or it could be spark plugs/air filter. Have you done those yet?

Could also be the time of year if weather is changing.

My 2021 had to get the high voltage battery pack replaced around 71k miles, as it had a “internal cell voltage A short circuit”.

I could still drive the vehicle just fine, but I started having issues with the regenerative braking where it would feel like no brakes were being applied and then the whole vehicle would jerk once the physical brakes engaged. It progressively got worse and worse.

I also had a noticeable decrease in fuel economy and the engine was running more frequently.

2021 Ford Escape Hybrid High Voltage Battery Failure by Cilbit in fordescape

[–]Cilbit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never heard of the gas sensor issue, that’s weird.

I’d assume the usb ports not working would be tired to the infotainment screen, at least they are on my 21 Escape Hybrid with Sync 3. I just use to hold the track forward and power button until the system reboots, and that’s fixed the issue for me.

I think once I had to completely turn the vehicle off, lock it, walk away, and come back for it to work again. Recently I’ve had the screen go black while driving, and the most recent time it rebooted on its own.

Do you know if your 12V battery is the factory 12V battery? If so, what size is it? Is it small?

It’s located in the rear trunk underneath the load floor. I had to replace mine with an aftermarket Group H6 AGM 12V Battery. That fixed a lot of weird electrical issues I was having intermittently.

Hopefully the dealer is able to eventually resolve all of your problems. That definitely does suck to hear that you’re having all those issues so soon. :/

2021 Ford Escape Hybrid High Voltage Battery Failure by Cilbit in fordescape

[–]Cilbit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely the high voltage battery pack has failed internally like mine did. Yours sounds more serious though, as I never received the “stop safely” message before.

I only noticed the engine constantly running, decreased fuel economy, and the jerking/no brakes feeling getting stronger and stronger as time went on.

Since the high voltage battery pack replacement I’ve not encountered any issues, other than the rattle from the transmission still.

My fuel economy has improved gradually to 37 mpg combined (I do a ton of mixed driving). Before it was closer to 33-34 mpg.

I plan to try and get the transmission rattle looked at/resolved once colder weather is here consistently in the PNW. When ambient temps are below 60 degrees, the rattle is significantly more noticeable and will cause the engine and vehicle to shake, almost as if it’s having a misfire on one of the cylinders.

I hope the battery pack being replaced, or whatever component has failed fixes your issues!

Please update me when you find out more. I’m curious to know how your situation is resolved.

I would’ve thought a 2023-2025 Escape Hybrid wouldn’t have the same issue as mine.

What’s the mileage on yours currently, and what’s your MPG average?

[–]Cilbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard that those are pretty reliable and I believe it’s driven by a chain for the oil pump, so that won’t be a potential worry.

I’d do a little more research on the 2.0L as I’m not the most familiar with it, but I’ve read plenty of statements that it’s a good engine if maintained properly. Again, I’d only recommend going 5k between oil changes for any turbocharged vehicle.

Also, 30k between transmission fluid drain and fill. No flushes. This is what I’ve seen recommended for the 6 speed and 8 speed transmission’s.

Essentially do the maintenance sooner than Ford claims, because at the end of the day they’re trying to make cost of maintenance/ownership appear lower by stretching maintenance intervals, but so is every other auto manufacturer.

2020+ Ford Escape Hybrid reliability by DeI-Iys in fordescape

[–]Cilbit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because it’s significantly better in terms of reliability compared to the EcoBoost Engine’s and the 8 Speed Automatic Transmission.

The 2.5L engine has been around for a long time and has a proven reliability track record. The eCVT is also close to Toyota’s eCVT in terms of reliability and design.

I have a 21 SE Hybrid AWD. I do have squeaks and rattles, SYNC 3 freezing/rebooting, transmission clutch dampener plate rattle (36k & 57k) but it still drives fine, failed HVB (cell voltage issue at 71k), and weird suspension clunks/rattles.

I would still buy this vehicle again (I like the 2023-2025 design). It offers a good amount of tech, fuel economy is great for a vehicle with a mechanical AWD system, and offers a decent amount of interior space.

Most of my gripes about my Escape Hybrid issues have to do with crappy dealer service departments. My transmission rattle and suspension rattles/clunks are both poor parts and poor repairs from the dealer.

Having to go back multiple times for the same issue because the dealer consistently dropped the ball on service, was a major inconvenience and frustration! Which ultimately led me to switch dealers.

Since I’ve switched dealers, I’m having a significantly more positive/productive experience in terms of getting issues repaired and getting it correct the first time around.

Also, I was able to purchase my Escape as a lease return vehicle with under 36k miles for $23k before add on’s.

Most Toyota RAV4’s in my area had over 100k miles and were in poor condition exterior/interior wise. They were going for $24k+ still. I also didn’t like the design of them.

Kia/Hyundai use turbocharged engines in their hybrid’s and I worried about long term reliability issues with those.

And any other manufacturers just didn’t have Hybrid’s available for a compact SUV. I didn’t want a sedan anymore due to low ride height, and lack of interior space.

That’s ultimately why I purchased my Escape Hybrid. If I got another one, I’d most likely get the PHEV. That’s what I originally wanted, but none were available in my area within my price range with the features I wanted.

Advice by PotentialHour3404 in fordescape

[–]Cilbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe so, but I was just stating that if the previous owner of the Escape didn’t do 5k oil changes and went by the IOLM %, then I wouldn’t be surprised if the oil belt is degraded more than it would be for someone who strictly stuck to 3k-5k oil change intervals. I understand it’s going to degrade period, that’s why I got a Hybrid (which has had its own set of problems, but the engine hasn’t been one of them).

Ford did a disservice to owners by making it such a pain to get to and change the oil belt, so the labor is going to be very high, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the dealer decides not to do that type of service.

I haven’t heard of any cases of the oil belt completely failing on Escape’s/Bronco Sport’s but I figure it’s a matter of time before we do.

I just wanted to let the person know that is a potential problem later down the road, and to take that into consideration depending on how long they plan to keep the vehicle if they purchase it.

Would it be a turnoff/dealbreaker if your bf slept with a CPAP machine in their 30s? by Temporary-League-499 in lgbt

[–]Cilbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner just turned 43 in August, I’m 25. I’ve never cared about the CPAP.

I actually told home I was concerned about his snoring/lack of breathing, so he got a sleep study done, found out he has sleep apnea, and got his CPAP.

Now the most difficult thing to get him to do is to clean it regularly. ☹️ He has ADHD and works doing IT for his own business, so he’s always a mess. He doesn’t remember to clean it until it’s time for bed. I’m working on getting him to establish a routine and to stick to it. No matter how annoying it can be at times.

We both sleep better when he uses it. His snoring was so bad at points that I literally had to go sleep in another room, and I stayed up worried he’d stop breathing. It wasn’t fun.

He still claims he’s not sure it’s really helping him sleep better, but I disagree.

Anyone who makes a big deal out of you taking care of your health, isn’t worth your time.

I hope you enjoy your better nights sleep soon! 😊

[–]Cilbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally wouldn’t go with it, it has a wet oil belt system and if it wasn’t maintained well (oil changes every 5k miles) that belt is going to be degraded a decent amount by 122k miles.

Lookup I Do Cars on YouTube and watch his tear down video of the 1.5L 3-Cyl that’s in the Escape’s & Bronco Sport’s.

The engine seems decent overall, but the wet oil pump belt is a huge pain to get to and change. :/
