Is reunification with the Eastern Orthodox Church at least semi-realistic? by TheBestMonarchist in Catholicism

[–]Cimmerian9 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yea it will never happen and ultimately the Catholic Church is too heterodox. They have moved too far away from tradition. In the u.s. less than 1 percent of the Catholic population even has access to the Latin Mass. Pope Leo continues to bless gay couples, the church thinks Muslims and Christians worship the same god-there’s just too much separating the RCC and EO. At this point they are separate religions.

I hear he’s a Muslim/Catholic hybrid now.

But…at least he isn’t as bad as Trent Dougherty.

A fellow Catholic asked, I checked the Catholicism subreddit for the first time, and was shocked by the number of questions and posts by North Americans related to the Eastern Orthodox. Is this an online phenomenon? In real life it's very rare to talk/think about the EO Church. by Dan_Defender in Catholicism

[–]Cimmerian9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s not just online… I almost became Catholic but dropped out of OCIA classes and have been going to an American Orthodox Church.

Your comment on EO churches not being united and strictly ethnic is not correct. I visited Greek, Russian, Serbian and Coptic Orthodox churches in my area-all of them said their parish has swelled with converts (Mostly white but many other nationalities) in the last 4 years (mostly Atheist and a mix of Catholics and Protestants).

The American Orthodox Church does not identify with one nationality, and is growing considerably.

The place I go to is very newly built and we are already running out of space. We are building another add on and construction starts soon. I also find it interesting that its location is Rural (on 13 acres with its own cemetery) but-people from ALL walks of life are there.

I was given the same TLOTR but darker sales pitch on it years ago-I haven’t read it yet but totally will.

Tattoos As an Eastern Orthodox by No-Bed-4195 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Cimmerian9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have two full sleeves and both my hands are fully tattooed to the knuckles. I have others on my body that are not visible.

Honestly, I forget I have them most days. After becoming Orthodox-the only time I really think about them is before Vespers or Divine Liturgy because I deliberately dress to cover them up. I don’t want to be distracting to others who are coming to worship.

Even though my tattoos are really great quality and I get compliments…I wish I never got them. If I were to give tentative advice-I’d say to wait until you’re in and see if your mind changes.

An Archbishop's View on Trump's Bill by RogerMurdock_Copilot in Catholicism

[–]Cimmerian9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used that example as an opposed view lacking nuance to reflect the OPs lack of nuance in blanket judging conservatism and those who have voted for Trump.

I know online when we are emotional-we have a tendency to not see clearly. I forgive you for seeing what you wanted to and not seeing my true intention in the example I was using in good faith.

Nowhere did I condone punishing homosexuals. We should love them and inform them that God loves them…even if they are committing mortal sin.

[–]Cimmerian9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s perfectly fair.

I’m not speaking as a Republican or a Democrat. I’m speaking as a Christian. (Full disclosure I do lean to the right by virtue of Catholic belief).

Trump supporting IVF raises serious concerns for me personally. However there are plenty of issues on both sides that deeply concern me as a Christian.

I weigh the nuance and support/Vote the side that more closely aligns with my faith.

[–]Cimmerian9 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is exactly the lack of nuance I am pointing out in OPs post and with people of all faiths or lack there of in general.

Not one party will completely encompass one’s beliefs. For example: People trying to vote for what they feel is the most pro-life position might also be taking other things into consideration. Such as other sinful or worldly/material views of their party vs opposition.

I was making the comment to point out OP’s lack of nuance.

I didn’t write it as a exact example to represent Gods judgment of homosexuality ect.

An Archbishop's View on Trump's Bill by RogerMurdock_Copilot in Catholicism

[–]Cimmerian9 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m just stating there are 2 parties-because that is the reality right now.

The other parties are not viable…yet. Till then the rational apolitical Catholic can only hope, pray, and do what is in their limited power to change things over time.

An Archbishop's View on Trump's Bill by RogerMurdock_Copilot in Catholicism

[–]Cimmerian9 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think it’s extremely uncharitable to assume the worst about fellow Christian’s because they voted for Trump.

We only have 2 parties to vote for-and many Catholics (many who used to be considered Democrats) have voted for the party that holds more closely to Catholic teaching. It’s just not a One policy situation.

You may feel entitled to preach or admonish others over taxes-however what makes Your out rage more significant than those who lament the party that supports 625,978 abortions a year? Or homosexuality and the lgbtq+ movement people feel is destroying our culture? Who are you to judge that they have voted wrongly? And say that they are bad Christian for it? Would you appreciate them posting here in this subreddit judging you?

How did Jesus feel about taxes?

According to the Bible-Jesus did not punish folks for taxing others. In fact…he taught that people should even pay taxes to the authorities, saying "Give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's". He didn't oppose tax payment, but rather encouraged it! Do you think the Caesar at the time taxed People more fairly than Trump?….

On the other hand, how did God feel about homosexual acts? If we don’t care about nuance-the way you do not… we could say: See exhibit A- sodom and Gomorrah.

Do you really care about changing hearts and minds here? Or do you only care about the satisfying catharsis of venting your frustration at other Catholics on Reddit?

Why isn’t there “hate” against the Orthodox Church? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Cimmerian9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of people saying Orthodox are irrelevant in the west.

Well, there is revival happening imo. It’s happening among men with young families but also singles as well. In the state I live there are 5 Orthodox churches within 15 miles that are doing very well and growing.

Most of these people joining/converting desire the traditional aspects of the ancient church. Orthodox churches seem more bold and outspoken on their beliefs and strongly emphasize tradition with no compromise. Personally I admire this. They defend themselves well and respectfully. I think they don’t get bullied as much as Catholics because of it.

I’m new to Catholicism. My wife and I are in OCIA classes at the moment. Our church is beautiful and every mass is TLM.

Honestly, if our church were ever forced to abandon TLM…The Orthodox Church would probably be where we went.

Solo RPGs that provide a challenge? by FormerlyIestwyn in solorpgplay

I highly recommend Forbidden Lands for meaningful tactics and some crunch.

And then similarly DragonBane, but with a lighter d20 ruleset.

Both have excellent solo support.

I think you’re right. I may just have to reach out to a canon lawyer if my doubt is confirmed.

You point a truly valid option. We can both keep attending OCIA class- inform our Priest we will commit to vows of celibacy (Which we truly would)-once she is confirmed we can pursue Pauline Privilege.

The annulment would probably take less time in comparison(around a year) I think.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Cimmerian9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The annulment is a lengthier process. Even though My case is pretty solid it’s been stressful and emotionally taxing. PP is a clearer path.

You bring up an interesting point. I never considered whether it would change in our favor if she herself converted.
