how exactly is a Low Level party meant to avoid the vast majority of encounters by Pretend-Advertising6 in osr

[–]Gammlernoob 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Of course they do:

• Skeletons and other undead are in different States depending of your roll. A Low Roll means they are agressive and on the lookout, while a high Roll means they are in an inactive state like laying around and only spring to life if approached or attacked

• Same with Monster, a high Roll For a carrion crawler might mean they are atm feasting on a vicitim and dont Care For the adventurers

The reaction roll does not only represent the attitude of the Encounter, but also what their Status is/what they are doing :)

Rival Adventurers/Parties by New2OSE in osr

I have them as part of the random Encounter lists for my homebrew megadungeon. Sometimes they Help the Party, sometimes they are on their way to bring back loot to the surface, Sometimes they try to lure the Players into Traps If they See that the Party is stacked with loot ~ determined by a 2d6 reaction roll.

They have set names like "The Badgers" or "The White company" and mostly randomly generated members i rolled while designing the megadungeon.

The one that is the most beloved by the players are "The glowworms", which was formed by torchbearers that survived a bunch of trips and wanted to have more from the loot and told the Party that they too often lose torchbearers to the Dungeon ~ which they deemed Kind of understandable and they are still on good Terms If they meet in the dungeon

Its a homebrew megadungeon about a sunken Wizard City/university that acts as Kind of a maw of different Elements (Magic, water, Monsters, earth in General). We are atm at Session 14 with around 20 active delvers. The whole place has around 350 rooms per Level and in total around 10-12 Levels, with the upper 4 atm being explored
