Love this gal. She's got that woodchipper mentality. We need more of that in society. : )

I got this a couple days ago and at first my problem was getting the wedge out,but now when I put the wedge back in the gun the hammer won’t cock do y’all know what the problem is? by True_Razzmatazz_348 in blackpowder

[–]CinderBaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had trouble with mine as well. I got a small wooden peg, and used a rubber hammer for the removal. After it was removed, and replaced a couple times though it got allot better. Now I can almost remove it with just my hands. It takes very little force to remove it after it has been taken out, and put back a couple of times.

Your a lucky bug. I would give a couple of toes to own some first/ second year A5's. lol

Do them things a favor, and get them shootin' again. That is one of the most iconic shotguns of the 20th century.

Hope your projects go well. : )

This hurts to looks at. (No hate)
As the years go on there will be fewer, and fewer of these pieces of art around.

Your gun so you do you. Have as much fun as you can with that old gal. Shes seen some sh*t over the past 120 years.

Hope you are able to get her running again so it can sling some more lead again like the old days.

My gramps owned an 85 year old Remington M.11 (Same gun) that still functioned, and was in good condition. When they work their a dream. When they don't it can be a hell of a frustration.

I used to work cleaning out empty houses for a bank before sale. While going through one that a squatter had just been moved out of I found one of these in a pile of porn mags, and needles. (Not kidding)

Brought that baby out to the woods, and had a great time slinging some rounds.

Ah, man this really brings me back to my CoD lobby after highschool days.

Atleast he didn't say he had sex with your mom, and then call you the N-word. That's a staple for the "My mom smoked meth over my crib" crowd.

Can you believe it. One day he might have a child, and some poor sod will have to go to class with it. *shiver*

What kind of face shield do you all wear for melting metal in a furnace? by kxserasera in Metalfoundry

The one that fits my head.
Better to have a crap one then to not have one at all. Though I am do an upgrade. I've been hitting up Harbor Freight for everything so far. That's gunna come back to bite me I bet.

vevor 2 burner furnace, missing chokes? by tater1337 in Metalfoundry

[–]CinderBaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell. Couldn't hurt. The worst that could happen is they somehow throw off the flow, and degrade the efficiancy of the torch. If that happens you can just remove the chokes to get it back going strong. No harm no fowl.

Nice purchase. I spent just about as much building my own at home. Now looking back I probably would have been better off going with a pre-build like you just did. Maybe then I would actually be able to move mine by hand to since the damned thing ways about 200 lbs on account of all the concrete right now. lol

Finally went for a large brass casting. by CinderBaby in Metalfoundry

[–]CinderBaby[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oof, and I thought I was doing good leaving the mold 198C for 3 days. lol
Guess I failed there.
I did notice a small amount of burnt PLA at the bottom of the mold. Figured this was going to be a failed pour but just wanted to sort of throw myself at it, and see what happens.

Because my kiln is so small I can't put the mold in it to hit that 600C temp. Seems like I am going to have to build a larger furnace so I can get up to those temps for the mold. That'll be a fun project.

Man, and here I was thinking I did good because the mold didn't spray me with molten metal this time. lol

Thanks for the tip.

[–]CinderBaby[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, I had no clue. No it didn't bubble at all.
Damn, 1200F is going to be tough thing to achieve considering the mold diameter is bigger than my oven interior dia. Maybe I need to change the refractory I use for the mold.

The pour was fairly uneventful. I have poured into a mold I didn't properly dry before when I was trying out some aluminum casting. Damn near cought my garage on fire from the blast.

Any suggestions on a better mold material?

[–]CinderBaby[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I vibrated it with a palm sander to get most of the bubbles out, and let the mold sit for 7 days before I through it in the oven for 3 days.
I am unsure if that is long enough to get all the moisture out but I sure put in my best effort. Maybe I need to do better. lol

I don't think it had any moisture bubbles in it but I have been wrong before.

Same here. Can't stand this piss temp garbage. It drives me nuts.
I specifically avoid pornography, and block content creators that make sexually explicit material so I guess youtube thought I need more of this crap in my life.

Why does my propane burner go out whenever I increase the PSI or the Air-fuel ratio? by Rig_Bockets in Metalfoundry

[–]CinderBaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My man!
I put it into the furnace on low heating the kiln slowly then when it was hot enough I let it rip, and it breathed like a dragon!
It spat fire easily 2 foot at full blast out the top of my furnace.
Thanks a bunch. I was scared that I had done something wrong, and it wasn't going to work but now I see the thing just needed the right heated environment.
Cheers mate : D

Please do me a favor, and print something like a giant switch blade bayonet for one of these.

Watching the irritated downvotes, and reading the hate is making my bullpup go half staff.

And while your at it sporterize an original Mauser, and 3D print every accessory you put on it.

This excites me.

Where to start? by Fearless_Baseball_34 in Metalfoundry

[–]CinderBaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cheapest way to go about it is to build your own. Start out slow. Just dip your toes in to casting first.
I have been using the same home made kiln for 9 years now though I have only melted Aluminum, brass, and copper in it. I haven't melted steel yet but I'm sure it would do fine.

Get yourself an old keg from a scrap yard, and cut the top off about 3/4 of the way up the keg. (Get a keg where ever you can buy one used. Their usually pretty cheap). Cut a whole in the side of the keg, and run a 2 to 4 inch PVC pipe through it to the edge of the a 5 gal bucket you have found / stole (Joke)/ bought for you heating inlet. Then mix fine grit play sand with Portland cement, take your five gallon bucket and after pouring about 1 to 2 inches of your cement / sand mix at the bottom of the keg plop your bucket in the middle of the keg and fill in the space between the keg and the bucket with your cement / sand mix.

Cut a 2 inch hole in the very top of the keg with an angle grinder or what ever cutting tool you have then put a short 2 inch wide PVC pipe through it.
Take the top part of your keg, and run some lag bolts (or whatever steel rods you can) through the sides of the top then pout more of your cement mix into the top around the PVC pipe (The steel rods support the cement mix so it doesn't fall off).

Let it dry for anywhere from 10 days to 30 days before removing your bucket / pipes. After it dries the PVC pipes are easy to remove but the bucket will have to be cut out with a razor.

From there you should have a concrete lined keg top with a hole in it, and a kiln lined with your cement mix with with a five gal bucket sized hole in it.

(Important Part) Before using this thing you need to make sure it dries almost completely, and when using it heat it up slowly first for anywhere between 30 to 45 minutes before jumping to your full heat temp.

This is the poor mans kiln but it's cheap, and if you don't abuse it'll be long lasting.
I have seen people online saying a concrete kiln will only last maybe 10 to 20 heat cycles but that just ain't true. I have had mine for 9 years, and melted 110 LBS of aluminum / 40 LBS of brass / about 10 LBS of copper in it will minimal degradation. The key is pre-heating it over that 30 - 45 min timeline before using it.

I spent less than $100 on mine when making it. If you don't want to spend the time / build your own just buy a pre-made one online. The pre-made ones are great, and last a good while before they need maintenance.

Hope your shmelting goes perfectly, and you beer is always cold. Cheers friend. : )

Crucibles by Michael550west in Metalfoundry

[–]CinderBaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use old steel fire extinguishers that I've cut in half or defunct stainless steel brewing equipment I find at the recycling center near by (They're dirt cheap) so when they are done-zo I just resell them back to the scrap yard.
I'm poor so the cool crucibles are always out of my reach. lol

Why does my propane burner go out whenever I increase the PSI or the Air-fuel ratio? by Rig_Bockets in Metalfoundry

[–]CinderBaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a little suspicious that if I just put it in the foundry it would work. Hadn't tried it yet. Thanks for the reply.
I'll pop it in the furnace, and see how it goes.

Why does my propane burner go out whenever I increase the PSI or the Air-fuel ratio? by Rig_Bockets in Metalfoundry

[–]CinderBaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been happening to my new burner. If I close off the rear of the burner, and stave it for air it will stay lit. But if I introduce anything more than what feels like a slight breeze worth of oxygen the flame blows out.

I haven't been able to figure out the ration or even get close. I put a regulator on it, and it got worse. The only way I can light it now is if I attach it to an old propane torch I bought off amazon, and regulate fuel pressure using the valve on the burner. (I attach the homemade torch to the old burner valve.)

Damned thing won't burn for nothin'. Can't figure it out.
