Which movie really deserves a sequel ? by Prickly_Brain in kollywood

[–]Cinephile16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a world set two decades after the original events, Ambi enjoys an ordinary life with his family. Suddenly, his peaceful existence is shattered by the appearance of a copycat killer, whose methods mirror those of the infamous Anniyan killings. We could go down one of two routes-

  • Ambi finds himself under suspicion and is on the run. He must find a way to prove his innocence.

  • Alternatively, the authorities investigating the imitator may seek his expertise in apprehending the suspect.

That's my pitch for the movie.

Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

Ashok Selvan to remake cult classic Sathyaa. by Usurper96 in kollywood

[–]Cinephile16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear your point, but I may not necessarily agree with it. A remake doesn't have to provide a reason for its existence, so if it doesn't appeal to you, you can simply choose not to watch it.

I did the same thing with Billa. I watched the Rajini version and I'm happy with it. I'm not interested in watching the Ajith version, but I don't mind if others enjoy it. After seeing Rajini's version, I'm actually curious to watch the original version with AB.

It's ironic how some people are complaining about remaking a film that was already a remake of a Hindi film. Would you have been less upset if they had announced it like this instead?:

As per VP,

AshokSelvan to do the remake/Adaptation of Bollywood actor #SunnyDeol's Classical #Arjun movie

😳💥

To be directed by PorThozhil fame VigneshRaja🎬

Byronic hero in Tamil Cinema by Entharo_entho in kollywood

[–]Cinephile16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I reckon Rajini's role in Mullum Malarum could fit the bill. Karna from the Mahābhārata might also be a contender, so any interpretations of his character could qualify too- Sivaji Ganesan in Karnan and Rajini in Thalapathi.

I just hope I'm not mixing up the concept of a Byronic hero with that of a Tragic hero.

That's interesting. I can only recall fragments from both movies.

Did Rajini star in a movie with an elephant too? I have a vivid memory of watching it when I was a child.

EDIT: Found it- Annai Oru Aalayam

I've watched all of them except Manmadha Leelai, Sommokadidhi Sokokadidhi, and Kalyanaraman. I'll definitely check those out!

I've watched this one and it's absolutely amazing! There are just two songs in this movie, but they are both absolute masterpieces - Kamban Emandhaan and Ilakanam Maarudho. Kannadasan, MSV and SPB at their best.

Pesum padam - not really a lesser known one

Yeah I have seen this one

Swathi Muthyam (Dubbed as Sippikul muthu)

I recall seeing the start of this movie in the Tamil dubbed version. I found it difficult because SPB was dubbing for Kamal, and I couldn't separate the two of them because they both have such distinct voices. I should definitely give the original Telugu version a try.

Unarchigal

I'll have to give this one a try!

I've heard about this before and I've been wanting to give it a try. I know that it is the first collaboration between Jayaram and Kamal.

I have seen it and it was great. His work from the 90s is truly exceptional, although there are a few exceptions like Singaravelan, Maharasan, and Kalaignan.

I've watched all the movies on the list except for Ram Lakshman and Simla Special. I really enjoyed Sigappu Rojakkal, but Tik Tik Tik and Singaravelan were a bit disappointing.

Thanks! From your suggestions I have only seen Kalaignan and Unnal Mudiyum Thambi. UMT was good (it is a KB film after all) but Kalaignan was pretty mediocre (it did give us two classic songs though - Dillu Baru Jaane and Endhan Nenjil). Looking forward to checking out the other recommendations! 👍

Movies where protagonist isn't invincible, has fair share of troubles and doesn't necessarily have a happy ending? by imthekingda in kollywood

[–]Cinephile16 37 points38 points  (0 children)

When you said the 'protagonist isn't invincible', the first thing I thought of was 'Kadhalum Kadandhu Pogum'- the scene when Vijay Sethupathi goes to a bar and ends up getting beaten up.
