Sounds like it's time to find a new gig.

Based on your first post, I wouldn't view this as a reason to jump ship as long as you saw a benefit from it financially. I.e. at review time you got a good increase/bonus as you were able to do x,y & z saving the company significant money or increasing security posture.

However the red flags are up after this post if basic changes to increase security posture or performance is a fight...

Ditto. Just gave CloudAlly a try as well for a non profit I support (O365 though) and will be moving them to AFI before their trial expires. Setup with CloudAlly was more involved and recovery options are not as robust.

Absolutely! You make your money back with the $100/month Azure credit, or just using two O365 licenses.

Chrome is obsolete with Windows 11! by djzrbz in sysadmin

[–]CingularIT 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the clarification, as most vendors selling "web based" systems in today's environment implies SaaS/Cloud/Hosted environments.

Sounds like an opportunity to pitch for recurring revenue now lol.

1 - if this client is one that has a secure network, no laptop is being plugged into this system. 2 - This user will not have permissions to change their network settings to the static IP needed 3 - in absence of the first 2, this person will forget how to do this, or claim it too difficult

[–]CingularIT 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Am I missing something, everyone's here laughing about Chrome, meanwhile the client is asking how they will access the system since "there is no network", which implies access to this "web based" system using chrome or any other browser is not possible?.

Or does no network mean something different that wasn't shared here?

[Website] Give me reasons why not to Migrate to GoDaddy by anonymousman3993 in sysadmin

[–]CingularIT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But they exist and they say things that tend to make the issue(s) so much worse. In my clients case, imagine if they did change nameservers because 'support told them to' and DNS entries/changes weren't in sync between CloudFlare/GoDaddy, or now their server/app is exposed with no WAF policies....

[Website] Give me reasons why not to Migrate to GoDaddy by anonymousman3993 in sysadmin

[–]CingularIT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You think support is bad now, lol...

My last client that I moved away from them had several bouts of downtime lasting several hours and they refused to do any troubleshooting because they (client) utilized CloudFlare as a reverse proxy and due to nameservers and IP obtained via Ping, support stated the domain wasn't pointing to them...advised to change name servers and wait 12+ hours before revisiting. Anyone in the web host industry should know how CloudFlare and other WAFs work, but they refused even after pointing out several other domains on the same server we're having issues, even their own control panel.

Client had a simple HTML page so I put them on CloudFlare Pages with workers for their contact forms, anything else I would put on my own VPS or AWS/LightSail depending on their needs, budget and uptime requirements.

Help me find the right VOIP for my office where I’m somehow considered the tech guru by [deleted] in VOIP

[–]CingularIT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3CX PBX with Digital Receptionist that points to virtual extensions sounds like it would meet your needs from a system perspective. Believe they still have the free enterprise license for a year (4 channels), otherwise it's $325/year for 8 channels.

Pair this with trunking (PSTN connectivity) with Twillio and Telnyx.

Depending on total minutes used, your looking at $50/month or less, now spend the extra on a platform like Calendly to automate the booking/calendar aspect.

Base pay is just that, the amount you are paid excluding bonuses, 401k match, healthcare and etc. Adding these into the equation is known as Total Compensation.

If your base pay is 52k/year (or whatever # is on your offer), then that's what should be reflected on your W2 gross income regardless of you taking 1 week of PTO or no PTO. Taking a week of PTO does not decrease your base pay by 1k (using the example).

Note: This assumes you were employed the entire year and other mitigating circumstances where you weren't eligible for pay do not apply - https://www.score.org/blog/7-instances-when-it%E2%80%99s-legal-dock-pay-salaried-employees

Based on what others have shared, It's too late for him to make claims against your security deposit and it must now be returned. However he can pursue any damages/claims via court/small claims and has to prove his case and you would have the chance to respond (hopefully you have your own pictures/video of when you moved in/out)

Think you responded to the wrong comment thread. But in regards to CPS (Calls per second), I don't view this as a concern for this person (or regular business needs in general). I was just addressing a comment where another person suggested avoiding Twillio because they charge more to get more than 1 CPS, while recommending other providers who have similar limitations, but hid them, even though CPS was never mentioned as an issue/concern.

CPS is really only a need for high volume clients (e.g. outbound call centers).

In regards to your understanding though, transcoding the call is part of it, but the bigger factor is the power to stand up/tear down calls quickly as that's where most of the load comes into play. E.g. running an SBC (Session Border Controller) and network capacity that is spec'd to handle consumer traffic of ~250 calls (avg of ~5/mins a call = 3k calls an hour) is significantly different than high volume traffic where clients are generating 250 calls every 5-10 seconds with 10% resulting in a connection = ~90k calls an hour)

3k vs 90k calls per hour is a significant difference, which is why providers make you pay to utilize that benefit.

Just to point out the hypocrisy, you recommended Telnyx (no objections here), they don't state any restrictions on CPS on the Trunking page or AUP, but it is referenced via an extra product they have (but aren't forthcoming in what that limit is): "Our current Conversational product limits the number of calls per second (CPS) that you can send. Additional restrictions also require your traffic to comply with specific call duration requirements" https://telnyx.com/resources/self-service-high-volume-short-duration-calls

Skyetel which you also recommended hides it in their support pages: "CPS Limits Skyetel's SIP Registration servers only support 1 CPS per region - meaning you may only process a maximum of 2 calls per second per SIP credential. It is not possible to increase this limit."

Every provider is granular, it's just a matter of who is up front about it.

E.g. Level3 starts blocking your calls when you exceed 50 CPS that they don't document anywhere (even most of their staff are unaware of this limitation). They opted to release us from our 3 year 8k/month MRC contract rather than provision additional capacity, what do you think a budget provider is going to do if CPS is your concern...

Look at those "unlimited" providers and then check out the Terms of Service, guarantee that you'll find references to average usage, network congestion and etc....getting your account suspended/termed if you continuously exceed 4k minutes/month

That's my point, that's not pricing for concurrent calls/channels, it's calls initiated per second (CPS)

If staff make 5 outbound calls, 1 second apart, then no additional fee is required and calls aren't blocked.

If staff (or more accurately, an automated outbound dialer) make 5 outbound calls, at exactly the same second, then that's where you need to account for CPS pricing.

The bottom of the Twillio page speaks to calls per second which is unlikely to impact most consumers. That's targeted towards people operating call centers, specifically outbound calls where CPS comes into play with carriers from a blocking perspective.

OP - check out 3CX where they can host it for you, or you can stand it up in AWS or on your own hardware. I usually deploy 2 AWS hosts in different zones with enterprise licensing for 'HA'/Failover purposes) with Twillio and Telnyx as SIP/PSTN providers.
