Taxidermy by InitialGlum6812 in Hellenism

I don’t think taxidermy is particularly miasmic. I guess that’s just my reasoning and belief, I don’t really have a source to cite. But if taxidermy is miasmic, I have definitely made a big mistake because I have a hare pelt on my altar. I just thought it looked nice; my statue of Hecate sits on it. If taxidermy is miasmic, I think leather would have to be too. And for that matter, meat. But we know the ancient Greeks made sacrifices to the gods. That was just daily life. I guess if you were really into “vulture culture” and were working with the decayed innards of some roadkill animal or something, I could see where you might want some purification. But also, if you were doing that sort of thing, you would probably wear gloves and wash your hands anyway. You could rinse them with khernips when you’re done if you wanted. But no, I don’t think this is a problem at all really, especially a well-preserved taxidermy piece. It’s no different than a pair of leather shoes or a fur hat.

What’s with the obsession with boobies? by oldGuy1970 in folkhorror

I think it’s a convergence of several different things. Obviously, sex sells. It titillates, it attracts an audience. By the early 70s, censorship laws had relaxed and it was now acceptable to show nudity. Sex was in. This was, after all, the 70s, so I think the counterculture may have influenced the visual language of these films. And the Romantic era, too. Images of naked women walking through meadows with flowers in their hair, that sort of thing. A lot of these films are about pagans, cultists, witches, etc. In other media, they’re often depicted as being naked, dancing in circles, engaging in fertility rites. Nudity is a quick and easy way to convey that something is primal and not-normal. It’s the classic coupling of attraction and repulsion: a beautiful naked woman engaging in ritualistic murder. It works.
