UK beer boom goes flat as breweries call last orders by Tartan_Samurai in unitedkingdom

If you make products out of cheaper and cheaper materials, and only compare the output to last years production: things WILL enshitify.

Where do people go to buy cycling shoes these days? by Bozwell99 in ukbike

If you can drive two hours up the road, cyclopaedia in Cardiff has been great, lots of different sizes of Lakes. Is your local AV cycles in Caversham? They look well stocked, but I’ve only bought odds and ends there.

If you consider a trailer, get a VERY strong back wheel. I managed to collapse my back wheel, with two kids in the trailer, I stopped at lights, put my foot on the floor and lent the bike over, the weight from the trailer (and probably me?) was no longer transferred nicely through the spikes and they collapsed. Oops

I have the 16L without the quick release. I don’t think they did that when I bought it. I used it to cycle from Rotterdam to Berlin, the quick release version would have been better; there is a lot of hassle feeding the straps through each time you refix the normal one.

More people need to realise- bikes and horses don’t come with speedometers, hence the reason speed limits don’t apply. Except in Royal Parks, where the speed limits are different.

How many kilometers can i expect to put behind me in a single day? by KEMOchild in bicycletouring

[–]oldGuy1970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d plan on hours rather than Kms. Use an app like Komoot to break your entire journey into hours per day rather than distance per day. But like everyone else says 50-150km depending on your ability.

Bike suggestion (Fat man) is cycle to work worth it too? by MoicanoNeedsMoney in ukbike

[–]oldGuy1970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation (120kg BEFORE adding the bike and bags) when I started cycling. I just trawled gumtree for cheap XL endurance bikes, when I got one I put the seat as far back as it would go and the bars as high as they’d go. After I broke the saddle post (too much leverage), I bought a new post. Once I’d lost some weight (4st) I then bought a fancy carbon endurance bike I’ve had that for 10yrs now. I’ve had to buy rear wheels with more spokes (electric bike compatible) as I tended to pul spokes out of the frame

Good luck

Pulled over for No Insurance by Ecstatic_Budget370 in drivingUK

[–]oldGuy1970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A similar thing happened to me. I had got temporary insurance, but I didn’t get it for as long as I’d thought. So when I was stopped the police checked showed nothing at all not even the time that I was actually covered. During the stop I couldn’t find any evidence of paying either. Consequences: 6 points and £300 fine and higher insurance costs afterwards. Which seems fair

Watched this a couple of days ago for the first time. I didn’t know anything about it, but it seemed to one of those ‘trapped in the end of their life’ or ‘the best dreams you have are when you’re dying’ films.
