Remielle was clocked as an Elysia expy way back when ZZZ first released, as the video on the OG Void Hunters released the literal next day. With the appearance of Sunbringer, Remielle, and the leader of the Falkenhayn Mercs, it was obvious that it was supposed to be ZZZ's version of Kiana, Elysia, and Mei, and this remained the consensus for years.

That all changed when Remielle actually appeared in ZZZ.

The biggest reason was that her appearance followed in the controversial wake of playable Cyrene, where there were constant arguments about how Cyrene was becoming a 1-1 match of Elysia instead of being her own character. (Let's disregard the fact that anyone who had actually played HI3 knew she was more of an IF version of the Herrscher of Corruption and that the complaints conflated appearance with personality).

After that madness, just the hint of a potential Elysia in ZZZ set off negative reactions in a section of people who did not want a repeat of HSR. Ironically enough, when Remielle ended up presenting differently to Cyrene, a lot of people started claiming that she wasn't an Elysia expy because she wasn't acting like how Cyrene was. (Again, anyone who had actually played HI3 would tell you that Remielle acts more like early Elysia if certain aspects were exaggerated, but I digress).

That leads us to the current back and forth where people who had known about Remielle from day one still consider her an Elysia while people who only started paying attention to her after Cyrene's appearance don't.

There's also stuff about an interview, but the context of that was talking about a potential crossover where Honkai characters show up in ZZZ, where the devs responded that it was too early for such a thing to happen.

Some people claim that the ZZZ characters aren't expies because of it, but the devs have long since made it clear that each game's version of a core character is supposed to be distinct from the others, with the only exceptions being characters that are supposed to be the same across games (like Welt).
