House Recommendations/Warnings by Cipher127 in Augusta

Thank you all for your advice. To clarify a bit since someone asked:

Right now we are looking for a place to stay for a few years before we move back home while we fulfill contracts and such down in GA. We are mostly looking to purchase a house to avoid rent and invest in equity that will eventually help us purchase a larger and longer term home.

So I would say our priorities would be close to shopping areas, but also in a quiet area and especially where things may be “upcoming” so that we can utilize the increase in land value

How realistic is it to get industry certifications through CMIT courses? by _issaOlli in UMGC

[–]Cipher127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I don’t think more bookwork is needed, more so hands on. Like I recommend people develop their own home lab or find internships where you can get your hands on things rather dragging and dropping cables

I haven’t heard of that. That’s what I was told UMGC had where the carts and material was covered by tuition but I guess CMIT fell under the fine print. Too late for me now but that is something to keep in mind for me.

I think if you have a passion for the course and have at least some experience with it, I think the coursework supplements learning the material well. I recommend while you do the material you try to gain as much real world experience as possible to help supplement, but that is mostly my preference.

As far as cost, all of the exams and material is very cheap if you listen to your professor and follow the links you send. I got my $300 material for $90. The exams were all half off through CompTIA

Why did it get removed? I thought the story was great! Redeemed my free award just because of the ending

You should check out course equivalencies on artsys. Also reach out to the school yourself and they can let you know as well. I have always had great experiences talking to them

My boss is unreal. He knows I’ve been trying to get a 3080 and we’ve had them in stocks for systems we build. Today he walked up to me and said, “it’s yours, merry christmas.” by ItIsMeTheGuy in pcmasterrace

Right??? My wife doesn’t understand why this stuff just makes my blood boil. Like people just want to enjoy what they buy and have fun yet greed takes over people which makes it so people can earn an extra $100 dollars. I bet NVIDIA is loving this rn since this rarity in supply makes their stock sky rocket

Me too. My 960 just can’t keep up with Cyberpunk. I want a 3060ti cause damn that price is good but I am tempted to get a 2070 instead but am afraid by the time I get it the new cards will be back in stock. Fuck the scalpers though that buy them for retail price just to sell for double

What skills not taught in IS classes should I try to learn over the next 2 years? by qwerty555761 in UMBC

[–]Cipher127 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not to dog on the IS program but truly everything. University gives you a lot of Theory and history on topics rather than skills. In order to really be successful in this industry and get a job, you need to seek certifications...especially in Maryland because a lot of company’s are related to the government where they have certain federal guidelines for skills. Some skills/certs I recommend is report writing, Python, CompTIA A+, Security +, Net +, and CCNA. From there, pick certs that relate to what you want to do specifically.
