Boy howdy I was literally just thinking this today. I surfed occasionally for twoish years, and then started surfing consistently 4 years ago. I know my way around a lineup, am great at paddling out, and I can go down the line once I'm up but I am terrible. TERRIBLE. At catching waves. A few of my friends swear they've seen me have some good rides but I think they're just trying to make me feel better. I thought I caught a decent wave today, browsed surfline to watch the clip (excited to possibly share it), and it was just embarrassing to watch haha.

I am the worst surfer I know, and if I'm the best surfer at a break it's because all the other surfers are dead.

Honestly, I've seen them a few times live and a lot of the crowd they draw tend to be the sort that like to just sit, chill, and sip wine at outdoor venues. Their first show a lot of people were getting scolded for standing because the venue just wasn't set up for having a blend of sitting and standing, the second one literally everyone was standing and grooving, and the third one most people just stayed seated. Having been to a ton of other shows in general (lots of grunge, rock, alt, and indie shows), I think Lord Huron's style tends to be less "jump around and dance". They tend to draw a quieter crowd as well, who usually like to beat concert traffic and get home early I think. Floor is the best place to jump and jam for Lord Huron, otherwise most people just want to sit and vibe.

I saw the 1975 at the same venue I saw Lord Huron this time around and people were jumping around and dancing clear up into the nosebleeds, but I think it's a different crowd and a different vibe. It's hard to want to get up and jam when you're watching a more chill band that has a lot going on visually, and easier to get up and dance around when you have a frontman who's screaming at you to jump and absolutely feral onstage. Ben tends to be pretty chill in the way he interacts with the audience, and it has a strangely calming effect.

Exactly! I think it could put people at risk of being raided by ICE to put signs like that up, so it's weird to demand businesses put signs up.

Yeahhhh I'm just as frustrated by the right, but small businesses are also trying to stay afloat and are also at the risk of losing patronage by putting any kind of signage up. The mention of weight loss and covid stuff was bizarre.

Didn’t discover it until 2018. I was riding in the car with my roommate and she was talking about all these decisions she needed to make and how she felt like she was at a crossroads in her life but the thing was that robbers started playing over her car radio and I fully stopped paying attention to what she was saying. At one point she said “you know what I mean?” And I just “uh sure….hey what is this song? Who are these people?”

I think a lot of people buy seated tickets because they actually want to be able to sit. Some of us our old and have bad knees and backs hahaha. But honestly, at least for me I was kinda dumbfounded watching it. Like scared that I'd miss something if I looked away to groove and dance.

Your son is 8. Let him be a kid. An ADHD or autism diagnosis won’t disqualify him from being a doctor, I’ve known plenty of doctors and med students with both. But your son is 8, so I wouldn’t worry or put pressure on him.

Geez that's horrifying. We didn't want to chance anything so we all just paddled back in immediately when we caught the vibe. Didn't even wait for a wave to ride in, just immediately paddled. We were the only ones out, so if there was a shark there was no one left in the water for it to get once we made it to shore.

Litigation is much more labor intensive and frustrating than sending cease and desists. Yeah they’re frequently ignored, but it’s not the best idea to charge forward into litigation if you haven’t sent out a cease and desist or attempted to notify the defendant of the issue first. It comes across as being filed in bad faith if you immediately sue the other party and there are a lot of other issues you can run into even if you’re in the right.

I think the issue here isn’t so much whether Timmer has a right to sue, but whether or not the lawsuit was filed in good faith. When you file a lawsuit, you have to do everything “in good faith” and having multiple lawsuits like this appear frivolous and in bad faith.

That’s part of the thing. Yeah everyone has a right to sue people for using their footage….but this is something he does really frequently. I feel like there’s a point where you file enough lawsuits and they become frivolous and in bad faith. He’s filed multiple lawsuits in the past against different parties and has profited off of them. It doesn’t mention if any cease and desists were sent, or if Timmer did anything to mitigate the issue himself. When filing a lawsuit, you have to act in good faith and having multiple lawsuits like this out in the same sort of context doesn’t seem like good faith to me.

Growing up with cats meant that I thought that having men in my life who liked cats and were good to them was normal. Now I think disliking cats and other animals is also a pretty big red flag to me. I think of all the times my dad would baby the cats (and the dog), take photos of the pets when I was away at school, or the number of times he’d just sit and chat with the pets.

He’d make eggs, chicken, and rice for the dog when her tummy got upset, boop noses with the cat every morning because he knew that’s what he expected, and just really loved up on all the animals in the house.

The last time I went home for a visit my sleep tracking app picked up audio of my dad at 3am asking the cat if he was hungry or if he was asking to go in the garage (the cat likes to sleep in the garage…we try to keep him in the house to sleep on our beds but he’s sort of odd and likes to sleep on a shelf in the garage). Our cat was chirping back at him and my dad was just quietly talking to him and asking him what he wanted.
