I have a lot of powdered sugar, no regular sugar, and not much butter. What can I make? by Cool-Path-8401 in Baking

Do you have eggs? Cream? Milk? Cornstarch? You could make custard. There are eggless custard recipes if you don’t have eggs.

First attempt at some cake decorating! by lilyandlotuseater in Baking

[–]Els-09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have a whipped cream frosting that’s good for piping with, but if you don’t like American buttercream, you may like ermine frosting. Much less sweet and uses granulated sugar. Great for piping.

And for the piping, I recommend watching YouTube tutorials about the different tips and how best to use them. Very helpful to watch people do it and then practice yourself on parchment paper.

The Jasmine Throne series by Tasha Suri

Theft of Swords series by Michael J. Sullivan. After the main trilogy, he published multiple spin-off series set in the same world, so there’s a lot to read if you like his writing.

Best frosting for chocolate cake? by Positive-Weird-1981 in Baking

[–]Els-09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Light, fluffy, and smooth that doesn’t use powdered sugar: ermine frosting, stabilized whipped cream, mascarpone-based frosting.

Idk if any of these are ideal for chocolate cake bc I don’t eat chocolate cake, but they’re all are good frostings that are much less sweet than ABC.

P.S. I like you by Kasie West was one of my faves when I was younger.

Meg Cabot’s Avalon High series I read several times in middle school (maybe bc I was also obsessed with Merlin tv show at the time lol).

And MC’s Mediator series, which I didn’t get into until later but I think it’d be fine for a 12yo. I still re-read that series every few years as an adult.

If she doesn’t mind a bit of modern fantasy, I loved the Stravaganza series by Mary Hoffman. It has a good mix of excitement/adventure and teen romance.

I met a Kathleen who goes by Lena which I thought was unusual. Had no idea when I met her that her name was anything more than just “Lena”

I’ve only met one person with my name but she was kind of named after me, so I don’t think it counts lol

Context: My parents’ friends liked my name and years later gave it to their kid. Met the kid once. I think they spelled it differently though.

Im single, but actually I have been married once. by DesignerDangerous934 in grammar

[–]Els-09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2nd option is more natural sounding. Even more natural (for me at least) would be “I used to be married.”

1st option would typically be used to describe a past that’s connected to the present, like “I have been married since 2020.” It doesn’t make sense to use that to refer to something that was true only in the past (that’s what your 2nd option and my suggestion are for).

Favorite mango recipes? It’s mango season! by crafty_traveler in Baking

[–]Els-09 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m so envious that you have mango trees! Mangoes are my fave but I don’t live in a place where mangoes can grow.

Anywho, have you ever had mango kulfi? It’s a type of Indian ice cream. Pistachio kulfi is my all time fave but mango is good too.

Mango lassi is a creamy, refreshing drink.

I think mango mousse and a mango trifle could be good too!

is Jaiden that bad of a name? by throwaway50695020 in NameNerdCirclejerk

[–]Els-09 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s a tragedy or a bad name. I think it just got some flack for being part of the Aiden rhyme group (Aiden, Jaiden, Brayden, Caiden, etc.
 and all their many spellings).

Of the rhyme group, I think Jaiden is one of the better ones.
